  1. Casey McGehee would fit the Mariners too.
  2. Its impressive that Huntsville did this against 2 solid pitching prospects in Jake Mcgee and Heeth Rollins.
  3. Well, considering he was my guy pre-draft, I'd like to say I did, but then you'd just point out that Arnett was my guy too. Awesome to see another one of my guys, Lawrie, staying white hot. He's up to 5 hits tonight with a homer.
  4. This is all true, I'm just saying the Crew could obtain pitching in a different trade. Weeks, Hart, McGehee are all guys who should be shopped. However, nothing will happen, as Melvin has shown he's incapable of finding longterm pitching solutions. He'll just continue to claim they don't match up well with anyone, while more dynamic GMs make 3 team deals if necessary.
  5. How about at his position, 3B? McGehee is really overrated, and is crashing back to Earth fast.
  6. So were on a 4 or 5 year re-biulding plan? If thats the case, the only threads here need to be about who the next GM is, not the next pitcher.
  7. I'm not saying we have to keep him and take the picks, but if we don't trade him, we get more than just picks, we get 1 1/2 seasons more of production from Prince Fielder. That should be rather substantial. Thats anywhere from 5 to 10 wins.
  8. I too was impressed with Gamel. His OPS was very, very good when starting at 3B. He's the perfect compliment to our lineup. He has more range than McGehee. I would love to deal McGehee as soon as possible, as the real McGehee is starting to rear its ugly head. Find a young starting pitcher who needs an oppurtunity, and give it to him.
  9. Olney isn't making sense here. How does Fielders impending free agency and being a Scott Boras client make this a different situation than the Teixeira situation. Tex is also a Boras client, and was also dealt 1 1/2 years before free agency. Tex is a better defender, but Fielder is younger, with more name recognition. Don't be disappointed in what Olney said, because as usual, he's just spouting drivel.
  10. It look like Rogers wasn't getting much help from his friends. A baserunner gets 2 bases on a wild pitch and then score on an error, then the next inning a runner scores from 2nd on a groundout. How does that happen? Oh well, its great to see that no one can hit Rogers, I'd rather have a prospect that gives up lots of walks than lots of hits. Rogers is a terrific pitching prospect.
  11. Don Money tries something new and puts his best hitters at the top spots of the lineup for game 2, and it pays off big time. Who knew? Well, everybody, and for a long, long time. His most important job there right now is to get Mat Gamel ready.
  12. Did Zarraga get his butt back in shape this year. Last year he was grossly over-weight. Pretty sad for an athlete his age.
  13. Also, if Fielder is dealt, McGehee will be the one to move to 1B, as he is a very poor defender at 3B, with almost no range. He really needs to drop 15 pounds. In truth, the guys the Brewers should be shopping for pitching help is McGehee and Weeks.
  14. Agreed, the talk that Lawrie can't play 2B because some idiot scouts said he can't is funny. Remember, these are the same scouts that said Weeks couldn't play 2B, and that Escobar was an awestriking defender. Weeks now plays 2B better than Escobar plays SS. Lawrie has a ways to go with his descision making as a 2B, but has softer hands than Weeks. Lawrie's bat looks to be MLB ready early next season, his defense should be tollerable by then.
  15. Sorry, i actually missed most of that inning, as I was picking up my team signed jersey I won in the silent auction.
  16. Isn't that a Costner quote from Bull Durham ?
  17. X... Chris said that was a mistake, left up in the zone over the middle of the plate? Yup, 1 of the few. His command is actually much better than what I expected when I asked for him at draft time.
  18. Heckathorn consistently threw his 4 seamer 94 on the stadium gun, and hit 95 a few times, Not much hard contact against him, except the homer than was crushed off an 89 mph sinker.
  19. Zaun is just another botched FA by Melvin. I stated repeatedly last season which catcher the Brewers needed to sign. Henry Blanco. He signed for just $750 K again this year, remains outstanding defensively, and is continuing his recent trend as an improved hitter. He has an 857 OPS this year, and his defensive dominance would have made a huge difference propping up our pathetic pitching staff, and we wouldn't be stuck with a buyout if we didn't want him back next year. Seriously, this guy should sue for age discrimination.
  20. I fell for that too. Didn't Jake Locker sign a deal with the Angels last year even though he has no immediate plans to play baseball? I'd like to see the Brewers do that with Jones, if it doesn't cost too much. I think Jones has awesome baseball potential, better than in football. He's a tweener in football, an over-sized safety without the agility to cover deep. That type of safety is becoming dinosaurs in the NFL. I like D'Vontrey Richardson, and Jones is similar but was a more productive, polished baseball player with a better arm and even more power potential.
  21. Wheeler is a guy thats grabbing my attention too. Can he really play SS, or at least could he if he lost more weight? If he can, theres a big need on the big club for a SS who understands the importance of getting on, Wheeler is an OBA machine. What an awesomely exciting pitching lineup tonight. Even McClendon has elbowed his way into being someone worth checking in on.
  22. Lawrie hits a leadoff homer, then gets plunked next time up. If that pitcher thinks a baseball in the ribs is going to scare Lawrie away, then he's not so bright. It looks like Lawrie is making his move, look out.
  23. There could be numerous Brewers traded over the next year, Fielder, Weeks, and/or Hart. When that happens, we might be loaded with young pitching, the question will be if we have enough bats.
  24. Sure, it stinks that this is where we're at, but at least the Brewers are making the smartest decision based on the circumstances, just as they did with Braddock. I proposed this move when Jeffress was handed his latest suspension, and I continue to think its the right approach. The Brewers, at this point, need to get any value from Jeffress they can, its too risky to take the patient approach with him and wait for him to develop into a starting pitcher. As a reliever, he can ditch the 2 seam fastball he can't control, and just blow hitters away with his 4 seamer and breaking ball. With this approach, he'll be a late inning fixture with the big club in the near future. Thats better than getting nothing at all from him.
  25. I don't see Nelson as a sabermetric pick at all, how could he be when he wasn't productive? His ERA was almost 4, with less than a K per inning. He's a typical Brewers pick, and unproductive sinkerballer, in the Jon Garland mode. I don't know where those Suppan comps come from, they're nothing alike. There's dozens of big sinkerballer types in the bigs, Nelson, at his very best, is one of those. An Armando Galaraga type, or even our own Kam Loe. Thornberg is disappointing too, a 3rd rounder with an ERA over 4 versus mediocre compitition. I'll just pretend we lost our 2nd rounder for claiming Casey Magehee last year, and that Hunter Morris was our 3rd. I beg every year to grab numerous college power hitters. 1Bs are usually underdrafted, and Morris was too. Good get. You can't fake that production. I will give the Brewers a break in the fact that its now easy to see why scouts were calling this a bad draft. Theres no depth to it at all. The worst I've seen. The only way the Brewers could have done anything much different was if they'd ponied up for AJ Cole.
