  1. And those count less? We have never heard a scout say he thinks Gamel is a 3B, and I doubt their all wrong, but that's not even the point. The question is, how long do you hold back a dominant big league bat before you just move it to another position. We should really move this discussion to its own thread here
  2. The maddening thing is that Suppan only gave up 2 hits. He had some really good Cubs hitters taking some ugly swings, but he still refused to throw strikes.
  3. Hitting to right field makes it easier to hit breaking balls, and the inability to hit breaking balls has caused Weeks to be strikeout prone.
  4. He makes his 1st start tomorrow. You mean the guy that got knocked around in the Hawaii Winter League filled with A-ball players? Lets let him make a few starts at AA 1st.
  5. If he ever starts to play solid defense, he'll get the call, because he is an absolutly tremendous hitter. Unfortunately, along with his unreal offensive numbers, he also has 2 errors already.
  6. I've seen a couple people now mention that they were unimpressed with Dykstra's speed. Gord Ash mention during the game on TV thursday that Cutter has been battling a leg injury, and won't be running all out for awhile. When healthy, we should see Dykstra's impressive acceleration.
  7. Thats very true, they don't. Some of the main reasons for that are injuries and conditioning. You show me a player that shows up for the season grossly overweight, and all to often I'll show you a guy about to have a down year.
  8. I'm not seeing what your seeing at all. Hall has laid off balls, his swing looks quick again, and he's hitting line drives. His production backs up what I'm seeing, as he has a 1.017 OPS. He looks like the outstanding hitting he was in 2006-07, when he OPS'd 837 and 899. Hall will never have a smooth swing, but this slimmed down, lasik enhanced version is a player I don't want to trade. We don't have a viable alternative at 3B, at least not yet. Now if the Sox, after the season, want to deal a pitcher to get Cory Hart to replace FA to be Jermaine Dye, thats something we could talk about.
  9. So far, so good for Mr. Rogers. Congrats to him. I was worried nerves might hurt him tonight. Its great to see him get some validation for his hard work. Anybody listen to the audio and get a radar gun reading on him?

  12. I'm sure it was pitch count. It was longer than his outings in spring games.
  13. Hardy entered the season with a higher career OPS at #5 than #2. Hart's 353 OBA in 2007 was higher than Hardy has had in any professional season, majors or minors. He's a great fit for the #2 spot, if he gets back to being the real Corey Hart. If he continues to be lost, then we don'twant him at #2, #5, or even #8. I find it hard to believe Hart has lost it forever though. The guy was awesome from the beginning of 2007 to mid-season 2008. Braun and Fielder hit more singles per AB than Cameron, Hall, and Kendall, and way more than the pitchers. Hart is every bit as good at hitting fastballs as Hardy, and would likely benefit more by batting in a spot where pitchers are more likely to throw strikes.
  14. That Huntesville OF is just about devoid of offense. That team is lucky a veteran like Stern is willing to play in AA. They need Cain back quick. Way to go out on a limb with that one.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Wheres Matt Cline? He outplayed Eric Farris last year. Will Steffan Wison get stuck playing 1B all year because theres no 1B alternative at BC, but multiple 3Bs? If Wilson is going to make the bigs, it'll have to be as a 3B.
  15. I'm curious to find out whats ailing Josh Romanski. It would be nice to get a 4th round pick on the mound sooner or later.
  16. I realize a 1.000 OPS is asking alot, but how about a .900 OPS? Your cherry picked stats don't even hit .900. I think a .134 OPS drop is fairly significant for a player entering his prime.
  17. Fielder did not have a single month with a 1.000 OPS last year, and his OPS in 2007 was 1.013 for the season, so you haven't debunked anything.
  18. The Brewers team ERA last year, excluding Sheets and Sebathia, was 4.24, and the NL average ERA was 4.29. I think most would expect Gallardo and Looper to combine for a better ERA than 4.24, so its very possible this staff could be above average, and to call our pitching anything less than average is inaccurate. The Brewers overall were 2nd in team ERA and 6th in Runs Scored. If the Brewers offense can finish 2nd in Runs Scored, the pitching staff should be able to finish 6th in ERA, which could help us to 90 wins again. Thats not even figuring in the impact a big trade deadline addition like Roy Halladay could make.
  19. Hall has 2 seasons in which he was worth at least $13 million, per Fangraphs, and looks poised to do some good things this year. McPhearson must have looked horrible this spring, because I would think he's exactly what Florida needed if he was the player we think he is.
  20. The Cubs organization deserves Wrigley. They'll gey nothing and like it.
  21. We've seen Oakland, St Louis, and San Diego all switch to drafting polished players with high OBAs. It ruined all 3 systems. I think we should only try to perfect our current system, not overhaul it.
  22. Player of the Year Cory Hart Muscled up with a chip on his shoulder. Finally shows his competitive side. Best # 2 hitter in the league. Will be worth over 5 wins this year. Pitcher of the Year Yo Gallardo Simply the most important player on the team. Rookie of the Year Mark Defilice Consistent, effective middle inning reliever. Unsung Hero Carlos Villenueva Fills in for Hoffman regularly, and used used by Macha to get the tough outs in high leverage situations. Breakout Player Bill Hall Slimmed down and re-focused, Hall carries quality value on offense and defense. He will carry at least 3 1/2 win value, like he did twice earlier in his career. Disappointment Chris Duffy/Casey MaGehee Early spring training hero's fall back to earth like they did late in camp, leaving the bench with just 1 worthwhile bat. Moves will need to be made. Minor League Impact Player Bent Brewer He will be in consideration for the organizations top prospect by year end. Already showing signs, hitting 417 with 729 slugging % this spring. I think this team will be in contention in July, and will make the big move to get over the top again. 90-72 and wildcard winner.
  23. Projections are based on stats, and don't include physical changes. Fielders numbers last year were below projections because there is no adjustment factor for becomer a fatter player. Fielder, Hall, and Hart have made significant positive physical changes and will outplay their projections. Taking the Brewers on the over is a no-brainer. I'd also take the Padres and Pirates on the under. I agree, and the fact that Halladay might become a Brewer makes it easier to take the Brewers on the over.
  24. I just found this link. McPhearson last played baseball in HS in 2004, hitting 400 with 5 HRs.
