  1. Braun and his remaining $100 million or so to Red Sox for Sandoval and his remaining $75 million? Brewers need a LH bat, and a corner IF and to open an OF spot. Sandoval's numbers down but as a LH bat, but he hits RHP well and has always hit well in Miller Park.
  2. Ashley absolutely deserves a shot regardless of his age over Centeno.
  3. Just announced on postgame for PTBNL. Have to say his postseason chances aren't all that much better.
  4. Some guys are harder to see go than others. Fiers was one of those guys, a guy that kept proving the doubters wrong. Very happy for him.
  5. They are facing a lefty and the other CF options are left handed hitters. I hope he gets more starts in CF but it could very well just be because they are facing a lefty. While you could be right, what's the point playing bad team roster fillers like Peterson and Herrera instead of Santana and Perez anytime? Shouldn't they be about developing young players instead of trying to win match ups with the opposing pitchers? If Santana is at all adequate in CF, isn't he the starter there in 2016 assuming Davis, Braun and Lind are still around? And isn't as of now, the starter at 3B Perez?
  6. I don't see any of those guys starting 2016 in the rotation. Maybe Lopez or Davies, but why rush them? Give them a couple months at AAA like they did with Jungmann this year. There's so many FA out there, I'd be inclined to bring in a low cost veteran to start the year in the 5th spot, and let those guys force their way to Milwaukee.
  7. He spent over 2 months on the shelf. He's been inconsistent. That's not surprising.
  8. I'm not super familiar with Santana's OF defense, but it seems like scouts consider his arm possibly his best single tool (I think MLB Pipeline had him with a 70 throwing arm?). Doesn't mean I think he's a Gold Glover, but it seems a shame to move him to 1B. Even if true. He's 6'5 and huge so his range can't be great and will only go down with time. He's played 11 games in the minors in CF and 3 innings there for Houston. Now Minute Maid park has a huge center field and you need speed in CF but not so much at Miller Park with decent speed at the corners with Braun and Davis. Would he be that much worse an option for the Brewers than Shane Peterson in CF? He's listed at 6'5" 225. That isn't bulky by today's standards. Heck Gomez is listed at 6'3" 220. He doesn't look bulky in the upper body from his highlights so 225 looks pretty close.
  9. Since he has options and we are less than 2 weeks from roster expansions, no need for strategy move. Guessing he's hurt. Will be interesting to see who replaces him on roster. Really don't need a starter for a while, and who the extra bat will be could be interesting. They've had to play either Petersen or Schafer in CF vs. LH starters. Would they bring up Reed? That would require a 40 man move, though it's not like they don't have candidates to be removed. Or maybe the red hot Sardinas (.432 in his last 10 games), which would allow Counsell to put Herrera in CF against LHP or Clark just to have a power LH bench bat.
  10. Trading prospects at positions of strength, SS and OF, for prospects at positions of need, corner IF, and C makes all the sense in the world. I don't think we're at a position of strength at any position yet. SS maybe with Arcia, but it isn't guaranteed. And while there are a bunch of OFs, do any look to be potential all-stars? Or are there a bunch of questions around them. I'm still on the stockpile as many as you can train. You mean the Brewers traded an All Star caliber CF and a middle of the rotation pitcher they have control over for several more years for two OF with questions? Isn't Phillips like #21 on BA midseason prospect list? That should say at least potential for All Star. I also though Santana projects as starting caliber corner OF? Where does that leave guys like Taylor, Reed, Roache, and Coulter? You wouldn't consider trading any of those guys for a better 1B or 3B prospect than currently in the system or a catcher that could be a major league regular at some point? Stockpiling guys? Where you going to put them? They only have one AAA team. They have Reed, Wren, Santana already there, and Phillips, Roache, and Taylor all poised to jump a level. Yeah they could have Taylor repeat AA I suppose but Roache will be 24 next year and he's earned a promotion too. I wouldn't even limit myself to trading guys for prospects. What if you could get a soon to be 25 year old lefty hitting 3B like a Jake Lamb who's already having some success in the big leagues and is controllable through 2020 that you could just plug in at 3B for the next 5 years? You wouldn't trade say a Coulter and/or a Taylor?

  12. Bad guy? No. Flawed as a manager? Clearly. Under Roenicke, the Brewers had their two worst months in franchise history which is amazing considering some of the rosters they've had through the years, and a collapse of historic proportions. Whether it was the atmosphere in his clubhouse, his laid back California demeanor and acceptance of repeated boneheaded plays, or whatever, players did not respond to him when things got a bit tight. In fact, the players under him tied themselves in knots pressing harder.
  13. Ball carries better during the day virtually everywhere, some places much better.
  14. Another bad night time performance by Garza.
  15. All of sudden Luis Sardinas has gotten hot. Two more hits so far today, for 5th multi-hit game in last 11 and hitting .333 in August. Must want a September call up.
  16. It's only been the last 10 years of human existence when believing that marriage is between a man and a woman has that been termed "hate" by some. Every religion and/or social order dictates by non religious authorities believed that for thousands of years of human existence. Now suddenly it's hate if you don't agree with the "enlightened" who think they know better. Who are the intolerant ones exactly?
  17. ^ This is exactly why the Brewers won't even consider him in CF. They already know his arm is SO limited that they moved their best player, Ryan Braun, from LF where he was pretty darn solid to RF to make room for Davis to play the only spot in the OF practical for his defensive limitations. Yeah, he covers ground okay and isn't bad with the glove. But that arm... Anything hit over any CF's head scores runners from first anyway regardless of arm strength of the CF unless the runner has to hold to see if it will be caught. In that case, with a weaker armed CF, you have the relay man out a bit farther. The Brewers didn't consider him for CF before because they had a gold glove guy there already in Gomez and arm strength is more critical in RF than CF to prevent base runners from going from 1st to 3rd on singles. That decision, Braun to RF, Davis to LF was made on a team that for the most part was complete so it's not really relevant to the situation now. With CF now occupied by a career minor league LF/1B and/or a defensive specialist ala Schafer or Wren, and the closest to ready major league bat, also a corner OF in Santana, it's at least worth considering. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying it's perfect. But having Braun and Santana, both of whom have RF arms manning the corners, at least the OF as a whole wouldn't slip as much. Peterson in CF and Davis in LF is far from ideal too.
  18. I agree with FVBrewerFan. It's none of my business, nor anyone that doesn't deal with him on a daily basis. Nor is it appropriate for me to express my views on this topic one way or another, so I won't. But by proclaiming to the world, he used baseball to make himself an hero or a victim depending on one's perspective, much like Michael Sam did with football. I'm all for openness but I really don't want to know or care what a guy I don't know personally does away from his sport. He also put the Brewers organization on the spot when the time comes as it does for 80-85% of minor leaguers to hand them their release down the road.
  19. A guy I'd target is Andrew Knapp from the Phillies organization. Might need to deal prospect for prospect to get him but what's not to like about Knapp? A .785 career OPS in 3 minor league seasons and .878 this year between high A and AA. Switch hitter. Decent 27% CS.
  20. Have the Brewers given any thought to trying Davis in CF? Seems to me he's got good enough speed and instincts in the OF to play there. My gosh Peterson is no gazelle and he's playing there now. He's got a weak arm sure, but it's not like there have never been guys who played CF that didn't throw it well, and if you surrounded him in the corners with Braun and Santana, then at least 2/3 of the OF would have plus arms. Plus Davis at least throws it to the right place most of the time. Having an OF of Braun, Davis, and Santana is pretty appealing offensively if you keep Lind around for another season or at least until next year's deadline to keep some LH punch in the lineup. Then after 2016, they can move Braun to 1B, open up CF to the lefty hitting Phillips, and Davis back to LF? Of course you can always still trade him too if you want/need to find a place for Roache, Taylor or Reed. Davis trade idea: Davis, Maldonado, and an arm to Phils for Cody Asche (who the Brewers would move back to 3B) and switch hitting catcher Andrew Knapp?
  21. I don't think adding a guy like Danny Valencia for example would be the least bit entertaining. Sure you can sign a couple of guys to one year deals and trade them at the deadline or whatever but seeing how a young starting pitching staff can do over 162 games is good enough for me. Watching young players develop is usually more entertaining than what we're usually given. The young guys I'm waiting to see don't figure to make the roster out of spring training next with the possible exception of Santana. Career minor leaguers in their late 20's and early 30's aren't entertaining either and Counsell is playing two almost everyday. All I'm saying is get an actual major league CF and if Perez isn't the guy at 3B or you want to ease him in, then find an actual solid vet for the short term to share the position. Having better defense in CF and some pop in the lineup will help the young starters gain confidence.
  22. I am in complete agreement with the premise for this thread. While everyone was anxious for moves at the deadline and almost giddy when they did the deals, they depressed me even though I too liked some of what they got back. They took a team that was playing some decent baseball over the last couple months and with a tweak or two could have gone into 2016 with a very competitive roster and turned it into a team that can't compete at all. Right now this roster, even with 3 terrific young starters, looks like a 95 loss team for next year playing in this division and there will be many series against the top teams like they just had where they just didn't belong on the same field as the Cubs. So now they arguably have a top 10 minor league system? So? Future success is dependent on unproven talent. When and if that talent translates to the major league team is anyone's guess. Top draft picks sometimes turn into great players. Sometimes they are complete busts. Even if an Arcia becomes an All Star, and Phillips is a near All Star CF, that doesn't mean they will have complete team. They still lack the resources to add premier major league talent compared to Cubs and Cards and keeping Nelson and Peralta long term will become an issue before we know it. We do know the Cubs have some premier talent and aren't going anywhere. Schwarber looks like a young Babe Ruth. It's indeed depressing.
  23. Just returned from Whistling Straits. Left before storm. What follows won't be written in paper or featured on Golf Channel. Course has never been real fan friendly with the difficulty to traverse, but today showed it's not equipped to handle hot weather either. Plenty of places to buy ice cream and iced lemonade, but not nearly enough concession stands and/or places to purchase water and the ones they had sold so many drinks, they were often short of drinks cold enough. All over the course, fans were being carted off suffering from the heat. The stands next to 18 green are normally great place to rest and watch the golf without the physical exertion. Today, it was like sitting in an oven there and again no close water concession. Making matters worse, the pin was in a position where fans in the "free" bleachers couldn't see the hole.
