  1. He wasn't facing Blake Snell (13.4 K's per 9 IP) at Nashville. He will tonight. Confidence can be fleeting.
  2. I'm with you on that. When was the last time the Brewers had a SS with a 4 WAR? It was nice not holding my breath every time he makes a throw to first too.
  3. He starts arbitration next year, so we do not control him for several more years. He's about to become expensive, which will become a real problem if his production doesn't return. In essence the real reason your baffled is because your stretching the facts. Brewers look at Turang as their starting SS in 2023. That was true before this trade and nothings changed.
  4. Can't argue with that. He's here until Adames reports to the Brewers.
  5. I really like the deal and the fact that Stearns didn't waste any time. Adames is a quality shortstop who's started on winning teams. As far as Urias, I don't see him playing another inning in a Brewer uniform. Hope he kills AAA pitching so he'll have some value in a deal later on, and some scout will overlook the fact that he lacks, for the lack of a better term, the cold blooded gene that major league players need to perform routine plays routinely in tense situations in a big league park in front of real fans. In short, Brewer management doesn't trust him, and he made the GM look bad. Those don't sit well.
  6. Savior no, but a power threat on a team that's lacking them, yes. You don't give up on Taylor but with options he can be playing every day in AAA. Heck why don't we throw Dustin Peterson in the mix? Guy has only fanned 4 times in 48 PA in the minors and he's got a little more versatility on defense.
  7. Piggybacking on this, won’t hitters have a tough time adjusting to the added distance of the mound being moved back? They’ve trained themselves to get their timing down on fastballs, etc. for years. The added distance of pitches will add to the amount of time the ball gets to the plate and, even though we’re talking fractions of seconds, it’ll still throw off hitters a bunch, wouldn’t it? Maybe I’m overthinking this. You're overthinking this. We're talking about a foot. All the training in the world can't help most hitters catch up to 98 mph fastballs up in the zone. Kids are able to adjust when they move up from little league distances and that's a much bigger difference. One of the reasons we don't see teams bunting is it's so difficult to bunt a ball coming that fast. A foot gives a hitter just a tiny fraction of more time for pitch recognition. The idea that pitchers who are much bigger and stronger in general these days can't handle another foot is wrong too. Again, it's just a foot.
  8. Perez might end up the starting shortstop in Milwaukee if he keeps hitting like he has so far at Nashville.
  9. Great that Hiura's getting some extra base hits, but until his K rate in Nashville returns to close to his 2019 AAA form, I'm dubious. Also nice to see Hernan Perez driving the ball. He hasn't seen much action anywhere in two years. Maybe he can help.
  10. The fact that Zach Green is 27 and two months old shouldn't be held against him. His 26 year old season was wiped out. He upped his game at age 25 in AAA and he was blocked by 3 high priced veterans at the corner infield spots. Garrett Cooper made his major league debut at 26 years 8 months, and didn't establish himself as a major league regular until he was 28. There's a lot of guys who probably would be major leaguers now if the 2020 minor league season hadn't been wiped out.
  11. Might as well bring Turang up and give him his baptism under fire. Sure he can't hit much either, but he's got a decent eye at the plate and he'll steal a base. Urias simply doesn't have the mettle to play at this level. He's a complete head case.
  12. Would take it as is but would prefer to get Bridgewater over Lock. Have always been a Teddy fan. You're going nowhere with Bridgewater. All you need to know is Carolina traded him for a 6th round pick and prefers Sam Darnold. Darnold and Lock are pretty much the same guy and Lock is still on a rookie deal. Bridgewater's ceiling is starting QB on a bad team or quality backup on a team that can afford to invest a lot in a backup. Lock's got upside and you let the winner of he and Love be your guy.
  13. Another guy who's impressed early at Appleton (after a stint in Biloxi) is Jesus Lujano. Both of those guys were at Appleton as 20 year olds in 2019. Pretty interesting outfield for now at Appleton.
  14. The Nats are currently 16-20 and tied for last in the East. They have two veterans the Brewers should look at. Starlin Castro is hitting .368 against LHP and is making $7 million this year. Ryan Zimmerman is hitting .333 vs. LH pitching and is playing on a $1 million dollar deal. Now I know Zimmerman likely would nix a deal wanting to play his entire career with the Nats but maybe he'll welcome a shot at another ring. You can at least ask.
  15. True, but I don't remember Arcia being overwhelmed by the moment defensively. Oh he booted his share and could be a little too nonchalant but making multiple critical physical and mental errors in a row when they are trying to protect a lead? Let me know when Hiura starts mashing AAA pitching.
  16. Hate to bring this up, but Arcia has a 1.284 OPS in AAA with 6 HR and an .830 slugging percentage. Oh and he's struck out just 4 times in 55 PA. How's that trade working out? Maybe Brewers should hire the Gwinnett Braves hitting coach?
  17. Rodgers retires, only then does Gutekunst get fired, then Rodgers returns for 2nd half of season.
  18. Why not give Zach Green that opportunity? He's hit 29 HR in his last 80 games in AAA.
  19. Tristen Lutz has had a nice start to his AA season. The system's not loaded with offensive talent but if Lutz takes a big step forward, he may be someone who can breakthrough to elite prospect status.
  20. Tristen Lutz off to a very nice start.
  21. I imagine it's going to take a while to determine who belongs where since most of these guys didn't play at all in 2020.
  22. Free Zach Green
  23. I'm encouraged by the start of Zach Green at AAA. In his last 78 games at AAA he's hit 28 home runs and driven in 74 runs. He didn't play at all in 2020, but he seems to have picked up where he left off. Given the needs at the corner infield spots for a RH power bat, I can't believe they'll wait too long before they add him to the major league roster. They need a DH next week in Kansas City anyway. Why not Green? He's the one guy beyond the return of Yelich and Narvaez that has some potential to give the offense a boost. Once you have a guy or two in the lineup to put some fear in the opposition, it will help everybody.
  24. Shaw missed a series in Pittsburgh in June 2018 to stay home and be with his wife and daughter. His 2019 problems were well after the crisis. Watching his mom (who I assume is still quite young) battle cancer is a helpless feeling and this may be a lost season for him for that reason.
