  1. Brewers are in big need of a RH corner infielder with power. Sooner rather than later. Green checks a lot of boxes.
  2. Garcia has a career OPS plus of 103. Not great but better than Adam Engel who figures to be their 3rd regular outfielder with rookie Vaughn and an aging Adam Eaton. I think you get a prospect ranked in their top 20 for a Garcia rental.
  3. It's been a rough week, but if Hauser can continue to throw like he has his last few starts, and J.P. is the real deal, they have the arms to compete with anyone
  4. It is Stearns' fault that Aguilar and Cooper are gone. Combined they are making less than Garcia is this year. He's also to blame for signing Robertson instead of the more established Duffy to compete for the 3B job. Catcher seems the one position where there's offensive talent. Maybe they should experiment by moving Feliciano or Henry to another position?
  5. Matt Duffy was everyday 3rd baseman on a 90 win Rays team as recently as 2018. He's been a key cog in the Cub's recent surge. Sure he's not a HR hitter but he has a quality approach at the plate. Brewers apparently had no interest.
  6. I'm betting the plan is for him to pitch innings 3-5 tonight. Take the pressure off of starting. One outing doesn't make a career.
  7. Didn't Counsell go through an 0 for 45? Perez being groomed to manage someday?
  8. With Yelich down however long, Hiura in the minors, and Vogelbach trying to find his stroke, isn't now the time to call Braun up and ask what it will take? There appears to be plenty of ABs available particularly at first base.
  9. Best catcher in the NL from 56-62, with the exception of 61 when he missed most of the year with an injury and was replaced by a very young Joe Torre. Very instrumental in the career of Warren Spahn. I attended my first Braves game in 1958, and Crandall was sitting that night. I kept asking my dad why Crandall wasn't playing. Other than Aaron and Mathews, he was my favorite player. Sad day. RIP Del.
  10. Nobody will claim him, but if he's still interested in playing what team needs help at 1B?
  11. For those out there thinking this back issue is nothing, I have one name for you: Tiger Woods. Woods has had 5 back surgeries. It's a bad sign when a player under 30 needs days off every other week to rest a sore back. These are highly tuned athletes. He's getting paid to perform at a high level. The mystery nature of this is problematic too.
  12. It's AAA and he's not really blocking or taking at bats away from any legitimate prospects so who gives a you know what? And he's a decent hitter, especially in the minors. He's got a .780 OPS in the majors this year! The more hitting falls off in the majors, the better Peterson's lifetime .650 OPS looks.
  13. Writing's been on the wall for about a week. Have to wonder where the RH punch is in the lineup. I've never been a huge fan of Gyorko, but for him not to have a job is truly stunning. Almost as stunning as Jeffress.
  14. At least Taylor will be playing every day. But I don't blame him for wondering what the Brewers really think of him when they overspent on outfielders two seasons in a row that have delayed his major league career. Will they really buy out Garcia's option year to open up a clear roster spot for him in 2022 or will they invest another $10-15 million on an underachieving "name" player? Now it would have been a different matter had they stepped up and signed Castellanos instead of Garcia and Bradley.
  15. Dave May. Acquired in trade from Orioles in 1970, traded to Braves in Aaron deal, then purchased from the Texas Rangers in 1978. Essentially purchase was trading of cash.
  16. Moving back the mound is the obvious and most practical move. Velocity is the biggest problem. Velocity is up like 6-8% over what it was in 1979, which I think as an old Brewer fan was the most entertaining year in all my years watching Brewer baseball. Back then Moose Haas was the hardest throwing starter on the Brewers. He probably sat around 92 with his fastball.
  17. you didn't predict the corresponding roster move, but assuming that it's optioning bettinger, he would have to remain on optional assignment for 10 days . . . and there would be no other pitcher on the 40-man eligible for recall. the brewers still have seven more games to play before a day off . . . so someone needs to take burnes' spot again friday. if not bettinger, who? Waive Zimmermann and add Ashby or Small both of whom are more highly regarded than Bettinger.
  18. I nominate Hiura, JBJ, and Vogelbach to go on the IL the next 3 days. Bring back Cain, Yelich, and Robertson. Hiura needs to be optioned, not put on IL. He should be replaced on the active roster by Peterson. I'm fine with DL for Vogelbach, and one of Garcia or JBJ to DL but to help make room for Yelich and Cain, I'd go back to a 13 man pitching staff and let Zimmermann retire.
  19. Otero was pretty effective in the Dominican Winter League this past winter and in one start in the CWS. Worth monitoring how he does. Considering his age I imagine he'll be no lower than AA.
  20. They'll be forced to bring up Feliciano if Navarez is sidelined even for a few days. I'd want Feliciano in the lineup over Maile while he's here.
  21. That would free up a one off for Ashby or Small wouldn't it?
  22. Bettinger takes his start Sunday?
  23. Amen to that.
  24. What is Godley supposed to do? He had his back to the runner and was not standing in the baseline. He supposed to assume the runner is well inside the baseline? The runner wasn't close to him when he tossed the ball. Diaz initiated this intentionally. He didn't need to veer when he got close to Godley. There were 3-4 steps from the time Godley let go of the ball for Diaz to actually start running toward the the base.
  25. They still have their three top starters in line to face the Dodgers in this series. So Lauer pitches against them instead of Hauser. Either way, they are big underdogs. Lauer now has a chance to earn a second start as they will need someone to replace Anderson for at least one more start. I don't see them sticking with a 6 man rotation for more than this one turn through the rotation. The extra day of rest before facing the Dodgers makes sense, but not against a team like Philly. I'd go with Houser, tentatively Lauer, Peralta and Woodruff against Phils.
