  1. Three more hits for Corey Ray. Big story developing here or just a hot streak? Stay tuned.....
  2. But there's still some guys that go out there every day and perform. Joey Votto played in all 162 games last year at age 33. The prior two years, he played 158 games. Molina's playing virtually every day at age 35 at the most physically demanding position on the field. A few guys on the Brewers always seem to be able to be counted on but Braun, even with all the off days built in isn't one of them and neither is Thames, who I myself witnessed this spring jogging to first base, either to preserve himself or because he was already sore and those are two big bats they need in the middle of the lineup almost every day.
  3. I'd say that's on the coach. He's obviously not forceful enough or the manager who doesn't get it across that paying attention to him is expected.
  4. Except in Milwaukee where "day to day" is actually week to week and they don't mind playing with 22 or 23 man rosters. Pina hasn't played in a week and they haven't brought up a catcher. Ridiculous.
  5. Even by pre PED standards, these guys are not old baseball-wise and the older players aren't even being asked to play everyday, yet they still can't make it through 9 innings without backs tightening up or hamstrings getting sore or whatever. Not to mention the times pitchers have injured themselves hitting. These are athletes?
  6. I've never ever seen a baseball team where every day some guy doesn't make it through the game. It's not from getting hit by high 90's fastballs either. It's from doing normal baseball moves. Is the problem the strength and conditioning coach or is it a roster full of China dolls?
  7. Back when I grew up in Fond du Lac, the HS baseball season in the spring was one thing, followed by American Legion in the summer often with nearly identical rosters. The state American Legion tournament was a huge deal, bigger than the summer HS tournament.
  8. Here's why: Bryant in 2017: 69 Receptions, 838 yards, 12.1 yards per catch, 6 TD's Nelson in 2017: 53 Receptions, 482 yards, 9.1 yards per catch, 6 TD's Nelson will be 33 next season. Bryant doesn't turn 30 until November.
  9. Except the Yankees have a very right handed lineup and he's off to a good start again. I think he has enough value for them to be interested. If you believe Choi and more AB for Aguilar adequately replace Thames contributions to the Brewer offense, then it's worth exploring but I'd expect something of value back. I wouldn't just give him away to save money.

  11. Stick Thames in LF, and move Braun to RF for one game. Keeps Aguilar in the lineup. Bring up Broxton if Santana has to be DL'd.
  12. Four years from now there will be a number of forgotten names with 2018 next to their names too. Not as many as 2014, but they all won't make it.
  13. That catch the other night in St. Louis on a ball Santana normally always lets drop, was a hopeful sign but while he's making much better contact than he was this spring, he's got one extra base hit in 51 plate appearances. I think his defense for the most part looks improved. He must have gotten the message that he needs to pick it up to stay in the lineup. Hoping warmer weather gets his bat going.
  14. Which also means he's "slugging" .140, as all 7 of his hits are singles. He's also fanned 17 times in 50 ABs. That's a rate you can live with for big time power, but he hasn't shown any so far.
  15. Brinson's hitting .140 and slugging .140. Isan Diaz is hitting .067 in AAA. Harrison is hitting .143 in AA. Yamamoto hasn't appeared in a game (hurt?). Early returns are the Brewers stole Yelich.
  16. I thought he'd would have scored fairly easily. Didn't look like he slipped to message. With two outs he has to go.
  17. He was much closer to his career numbers in 2017 than he was in 2016, when his BABIP was a ridiculous .373. I don't expect him to ever approach those 2016 numbers but after giving away a better player (Gennett) last year, they were afraid of doing the same thing and having him come back to haunt them like Scooter did last year.
  18. Contreras crowds the plate. He gets hit a lot. So does Rizzo. Contreras is a jerk. Rizzo is one of the classiest guys in the league. Baez is flashy and grates on opposing fans but he's often seen chatting with Brewer players and seems on a friendly basis. I'm no fan of Happ either. He acts like a jerk too. But those guys play hard. Same can't be said for some of the Brewers right now.
  19. Wrigley for all the money they are spending is still a dump and very hard to get to for fans in the suburbs but they don't admit it. There's 15 rows of seats in the lower deck where if you're lucky enough to not be behind a pole, you still can't see popups and high flyballs at their apex. Maybe the Brewers should offer substantial rebates to season ticket holders who can prove they used their tickets for the Cub series and reduce the incentive to resell them. At least that would keep them out of the premium seats in the lower level.
  20. It's nonsensical to think Counsell has the job for life. Roenicke was beloved after 2011 and he got fired a month into 2015 season. Counsell wasn't a Stearns hire. They might appear to be joined at the hip but when Stearns starts to sense his job is in jeopardy, he won't hesitate to make a change. The earliest that would be is 2019 though. It's pretty obvious to me that a reason these defensive lapses and mental errors continue is that there are no repercussions. Just yesterday, on the ball Villar hit to deep RF that Heyward misplayed into a double, he trotted out of the box. Had he busted it (like the Cub players did all series), he easily makes 3B, and scores that inning. Think anyone even mentioned it to him? I don't. That kind of lackadaisical play is tolerated. That's why it continues.
  21. I'm watching The Masters. Tired of watching guys swing and miss.
  22. Nine games into the season, Santana is slugging .310 and has one extra base hit. Teams wary that he could repeat his 2017 are still wary.
  23. Looks like Woodruff, Guerra, and Suter will be rotating in the 4-5 spots. Guessing if Guerra pitches well and Suter struggles the next couple starts, we'll see Woodruff up and Suter down in 10 days.
  24. What makes this whole situation worse is how the Cubs telecasts play up the invasion of Cub fans. The director constantly is showing shots of the crowd showing only people in Cubs gear. The telecasts constantly talk about it. Yesterday they must have shown the guy with the "Wrigley Field North" sign 3 or 4 times and they had the crowd mike level so high you could not hear Len Kasper talk. It's been made into basically a 3 hour infomercial with the message "look Cub fans how much fun it is to drive to Milwaukee and drown out the Brewer fans". Attanasio should take it up with the commissioner quietly. It's upsetting one fan base to promote another. That's not good for the game. I'm sure there's tons of Dodger fans who go to San Diego. But I don't see Dodger telecasts loaded with shots of their fans whooping it up. Trust me these Cub fans in Miller Park know they are being shown on camera and they whoop it up much more than they do at their home park. I brought this up with a Cub fan last summer that Brewer fans stay away from Miller Park because they can't stand the obnoxious Cub fans filling their park. He was stunned and basically said "What Brewer fans don't love the Cubs too?" I find Cub fans at Wrigley much less obnoxious than those that go to Miller Park. That's in part because they aren't the focus. In Milwaukee they are.
  25. Villar seems to be trying to put the ball in play more and he's gotten hits with men in scoring position, but I don't think he's going to maintain a .474 BABIP for too long. It's not like he's hitting rockets. Sogard and Perez are out of the gate slowly but both have microscopic samples. Heck Cain was in an 0 for 16 stretch till his double last night.
