  1. Great talent Body made of glass No thanks
  2. I don't think so. I don't think Reed can hit all that much better than the options the Brewers have. The numbers sure do look grim as a big leaguer and against lefties they are horrific.
  3. I like Dunn alot, but Melvin talks quite a bit about wanting to lower the strikeouts. He seems to place a higher premium on wanting to get guys that make contact than others do.
  4. With the dearth of quality free agent bats this offseason, the Yankees should be in a strong position if they wanted to move A-Rod.You have guys like Soriano and Lee asking for 15 million a year,if A-Rod is making 16 million,he's a much more attractive option than Carlos Lee.
  5. But then one caller called in and brought up a decent trade I think for the Brewers...what do you think? Yankees get: P Ben Sheets P Matt Wise 2B Rickie Weeks a midlevel prospect Brewers get: 2B Robinson Cano OF Melky Caberra I love how they want the Brewers to include a prospect.I've seen some really silly trade proposals on message boards, but this one is close to being the worst.
  6. Any trade for Crawford likely would have to bring back an established major-league ace and two or more top-tier prospects. Not gonna happen from the Brewers or any team
  7. Katuluu wrote this about The Woodsman One of the most disturbing, disgusting, hopeful and beautiful movies I have ever seen. Bacon really outdoes himself. I've rarely felt so conflicted for a character before, and it's all do to his fantastic performance. Incredibly complex and challenging theme that most people probably won't be able to make it thru. If not for that I'd classify it a must see. I watched it yesterday and pretty much agree.Bacon was outstanding and Mos Def was very good in a small role as a cop. What i liked was that the film didn't attempt to make people think child molesters aren't serious dangers once out of prison, but Bacon did a great job playing a man deeply troubled by the fact he's attracted to 10-14 year old girls. I found myself thinking he should still be in jail because he's a potential danger to kids, but having a bit a sympathy because i can't imagine how disturbing it must be to find 10 year olds attractive.
  8. I watched The Machinist recently,Christian Bale somehow managed to get himself so skinny for the role,he literally was as skinny as people in picutures from Nazi concentration camps.Bale looked like a walking dead man to play the role of a troubled insomniac.I found it to be a very good movie and definately worth seeing.
  9. I'll start having to wear pants instead of shorts soon, even worse when it's time to break out jackets. How often places i go out to eat at can't seem to grasp that asking for no onions in my food means i don't want onions in my food. That onions are put in so many damn food dishes that i would like to eat otherwise. That i don't hate something like green beans instead one of the most used foods on the planet. When people cooking a meal tell me there are onions in the dish, but not to worry because they were only added for flavor.Hello, that's the flavor which makes me want to vomit. That onions were ever created.
  10. Has Zumwalt become a guy the Brewers think could actually pitch in the bigs?
  11. Signing Turnbow to a longer extension had risk, but he at least had the upside of a 98mph fastball and youth.Giving Brady a second year i just didn't understand,i can't remember the last time i saw him hit a ball hard and he's not exactly a swift centerfielder with a good arm.
  12. This is my first time seeing Sarafte pitch,he has animpressive arm and really nice delivery.
  13. Capellan could be huge as a setup guy If Kolb and him pan out,you mix in Wise/Turnbow,we could have an outstanding pen.Plus,Kane Davis throws 95-96 and it's possible that Maddux can get him more consistant.Lehr is decent and de la Rosa has the stuff if he can ever harness it.I have high hopes for this part of the team.
  14. Does the study account for game situation?Say Crawford is on first and the Drays are losing 6-1 in the 5th inning,i'm sure a stolen base isn't that much of a concern to the pitcher. What if though it's say a 3-3 game in the 8th inning vs the Red Sox and Crawford is on first,a stolen base is a much bigger concern for that Sox pitcher. I have no clue if those situations would effect any study on this, but i would assume the pitcher would treat the situations differently.Just taking a bulk number of at bats doesn't account for the importance of the stolen base. Many times when a base stealer is on base, their team is losing by enough where risking a steal isn't worthwhile or that much of a concern to the pitcher.
  15. There is no rule stating that cheating on your wife will get you banned from baseball. No rule saying snorting some blow will get a player banned. No rule saying that spitting on a player or ump with get you banned for good. There is a rule that betting on baseball can get a player banned for good and Rose knew this.He was to weak willed to not bet on baseball and i feel zero sympathy for him.None.Zero.Nada. He made his bed by breaking the rule and then lied, weasled, and in pathetic fashion practically begged for sympathy from fans of his that he lied to for years and years. No Hall for you Petey
  16. Hoffman used to throw a lot harder, 95+. Not sure anymore. Hoffman throws his fastball 86-89 and has been in that range for the last few years, very simular to Wise.Hoffman has been effective for quite a few years without a great fastball,no reason Wise can't. One thing for Hoffman though is he has incredible command of both his fastball and change. He doesn't walk hitters and still is able to rarely leave pitches in the middle of the plate.
  17. While i can't read Melvin's mind,i ddo think it's fair to assume he won't make any moves this offseason that put much of a hit if any on the teams chances to win next season. The Brewers look to be in a win now mode, though not to the complete extreme that the future is way way on the backburner. So even those that are strongly against trading Lee shouldn't worry as much if a trade was made,i'd be very suprised if it was a deal for a pack of minor leaguers.I'd guess any trade would be for a player or players who would be expected to be a big part of next years team. If Melvin doesn't find that in any offer,i think he keeps Lee for the whole 06' season unless the team tanks which seems unlikely.I do though think any extension is very unlikely,Lee will probably want a package of yrs/money that Melvin isn't comfortable with.
  18. The good thing is for the first time in awhile, the team doesn't have to trade a guy like Lee.In the past,a good player making 8.5 million and in his final year was almost automatic trade bait. Now the Brewers actually have some funds and a decent team.Trading Lee to save cash for the owner and aquiring three A/AA hope and prayer players doesn't have to be an option. I'd assume if any trade of Lee happened,it would be to aquire a player/players for the big league club, not to help the West Virginia Power.I'd be very hesitent to trade Lee,but not having deaf ears either. The topic of trading Lee is a bit hard though without names to evalute whether it might be beneficial.
  19. I'd keep Lee for next season unless given an offer so good we can't refuse.I dont see a better option ready to play LF next year and the team has been making a nice profit two years in a row. They can afford his option.
  20. If you can estimate runs scored to within 95% with OBP and SLG, how imporant is produtive outs, stealing, team chemistry, grittiness, etc, in terms of scoring runs? I'd be tempted to say around 5%. I pretty much agree. The only time i think having skilled bunters or basestealers can be a possible strong advantage is in the playoffs. In a 5-7 game series format, one game can decide who goes home. The ability to manufacture a run or two in close games could dicate who moves on. Obviously this isn't a playoff requirement,Boston last year won't ever be confused with the 1982 Cardinals. They did though turn a stolen base into the winning run vs the Yankees. During a 162 game marathon season,a powerfull offense can simply overwhelm opposing pitching more times than not.In the playoffs when often teams face much better pitching, the ability to have some aspects of "small ball" in your arsenal would seem beneficial if it's a tight game late and an opposing pitcher is really dealing. Of course i'd rather have the Yankees lineup in the playoffs compared to the Angels, but i do understand why the Angels bunt/steal more and the Yankees just wait back and try to mash. They are built differently.
  21. Since the data of the states is dependant on an average offensive player against an average pitcher and defense, we simply make generalizations based on those averages. We can conclude that if a batter is of average ability or greater, and the pitcher does not have a substancial advantage over that particular player (lefty vs. lefty for example) the manager is maximizing his chance to score a run by letting him swing. Now, who bats after him is also important, that's why I'm not being overly aggressive in my assessments to begin with. That's pretty much how i'd view bunting. It's the 7th inning and Russ Springer is pitching and Brewers are down a run with say Hardy in the two hole up,i'd let him swing away. It's the 9th and Lidge is pitching,i'd be much more inclinded to try and bunt. Watching Ned this season,i dont remember to many situations offhand where i felt he was overaggressive in bunting or was crazy not to.Either way i don't see bunting or not bunting being that important of an issue in the grand scheme of a season unless a manager goes overboard in doing so.The odds of scoring by choosing either method are close enough that i don't stress over it much.
  22. For me,it all depends on the situation. What's the score.Who would be the next two hitters.Who is pitching. If it's the bottom of the ninth and i'm down a run with say Billy Wagner or Brad Lidge pitching,i'd bunt the baserunner over as long as it's not my 3-4-5 hitter up.The odds of a home run or stringing a few hits together vs a stud pitcher aren't high.I'd rather move the runner over and hope one hit or sac fly ties the game. If it's the 6th/7th inning vs a middle reliever i'd be much less inclined to bunt unless a crappy hitter is due to bat. It doesn't have to be a same call choice every time, not all situations are the same.
  23. Wow,when Hall gets hot that dude just hits rockets all over the place.
  24. But what happens when DBow gets out of it and we have a 9th inning without a closer?? What then? What to do, what to do.. That's a better alternative to be facing than losing in the 9th.
  25. Hardy didn't prove anything at AAA. Gimme' a break! His best year in the minors was in AAA
