  1. The Weeknd provided a perfectly cromulent halftime show at the Super Bowl.
  2. Maybe it's me getting a step ahead of myself, but...could the Lions make a run at Watson with the extra 1st round picks from the Stafford trade? They've already taken the cap hit for Stafford, and they could get away from Goff relatively cheaply at this point (without paying his base salary for 2021, unless it's guaranteed). Effectively replacing Stafford with a younger franchise QB would be worth the draft picks, if the Lions felt they could build around him and the new contract he will demand wherever he goes. Just my $0.02 at this point.
  3. It's even more complicated than that; no one has the ability to watch Brewers games on TV at this point, as the team has yet to announce a broadcasting deal with any broadcaster, be it FSWI (which is renaming to Bally's Sports Wisconsin), a non-Sinclair owned option, or some wholly-online RSN-equivalent.
  4. Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero · 55s #Packers DC Mike Pettine’s contract is expiring and he will not return in 2021, source said.
  5. https://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2021/01/27/fox-sports-wisconsin-becomes-ballys-sports.html I'll just quote from the Wikipedia entry, for anyone wondering why a pinball company became the name of the Brewers' TV station that isn't on most streaming options right now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bally_Manufacturing
  6. The only way I would have felt okay with the FG at the end of the game is if it had been paired with an onside kick. The Packers had uncharacteristically struggled in the red zone yesterday, thanks in part to Adams' drop when they settled for the first FG (coincidentally, they largely abandoned the run inside the 10 yard line, but I digress). It's a matter of picking your long-shot opportunity: scoring a TD+2PC, taking 3 and trying to get the ball back to drive for the win, or what GB ultimately did. The end of the first half and start of the 3rd quarter really sunk the team. Either one by itself would have been manageable, but getting burned twice put the game too far out of reach, including forcing the failed 2PC that complicated that 4th and goal call.
  7. If you didn't watch the MCU films that lead up to WandaVision, I would recommend watching the "Marvel Legends" episodes for Scarlet Witch and Vision, since they basically feed you the portions of the movie which set up the series. It's part of the Disney+ subscription, which I signed up for on Friday to watch the show. Personally, I loved the first two episodes, which is hardly a surprise since I grew up on the MCU source material. While I feel like I have a good "sense" of the what and the why for the series, I am curious to see how the story plays out, and particularly the impact on the characters...particularly the ones being introduced (in some cases, reintroduced) in the series, which is said to tie directly into the next Dr. Strange film. After the year off...it's nice to have something Marvel to watch again!
  8. https://www.theplayerstribune.com/posts/green-bay-packers-robert-tonyan-jr-football Just reading this, I feel ready to run through a brick wall if it would help the team this weekend; guessing most of you will feel the same way.
  9. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/11/jared-veldheer-signing-with-packers-set-to-make-nfl-playoff-history/ EDIT: Since the link gets collapsed by the board, the Packers have signed Jared Veldheer, who played for the Colts last weekend, but was elevated from the Practice Squad to do so, and is eligible to play for two teams in the same postseason.
  10. Zimmer, I understand, as the Vikings scrapped the expensive parts of the defense, and plugged in a lot of rookies, particularly in the secondary. I have no idea what the "plan" is in Chicago, where their starting quarterback is now a free agent, and the backup QB they traded for to replace that QB was benched for said mediocre starter....who only managed to put up 9 points in a playoff game the team backed into (6 of which were scored on the last play of the game). Considering Foles is on the roster for another 2 years, I have to wonder whether today's firing gives Chicago's front office something to think about.
  11. Penn State postponed not only yesterday's game against Ohio State, but both of its games set for next week...just to finish the thought.
  12. Coach Gard appears to confirm the COVID-test concerns were on the Penn State end, not with the Badgers.
  13. Still waiting for the proverbial "next shoe to drop" between the UW and Penn State basketball teams. Wisconsin next plays at home on Thursday; Penn State on Wednesday. If both of those games go off without a player sitting out, it would appear one or both teams dodged a contact-tracing bullet.
  14. Kendrick Prior (59 catches 2017-19) only played in 3 games all season. Danny Davis (96 catches 2017-19) played in 2. That production just can't be replaced by Jack Dunn (6 catches 2017-19) and the occasional flashes from a pair of freshmen in Chimere Dike and Devin Chandler, which allows opposing defenses to key on stopping Jake Ferguson.
  15. In fairness to the Cubs (a phrase I never thought I would say), they can't exactly air night games on WGN America anymore.
  16. Probably a deal that makes some sense for both sides, but I'm going to hate watching Davies pitch for the Cubs in '21 more than I hated watching Darvish pitch for them in '20.
  17. While slightly a tangent, this feels like the appropriate place to note my surprise that Tavon Austin has thus far been a decoy in the running game.
  18. They focused on it with the Gary play on the broadcast, but Packer OLBs are keeping contain vs. Henry.
  19. Sounds like Darius Shepherd getting released is the roster management move to go with the Tavon Austin signing.
  20. Anyone know why the UWGB game is being played at 4pm today? Is this a concession for BTN air time, or is there some other rationale I'm not seeing?
  21. I've taken to calling him Coan-y Pipp ever since the injury. While I expected Mertz to be good....I didn't expect this good this quickly.
  22. IMO, it's just presumptuous to think this away. I don't expect Green Bay to go 16-0, and the two teams don't play each other. Home Field throughout is not guaranteed, and given the expanded playoff field, also carries with it the lone first round bye. I do think this is a very good Packers team, especially since Rodgers has the pinpoint accuracy back on his deep throws, and the offense has enough wrinkles to it to put pressure on the linebackers and safeties, even when the top WRs have been hurt. I'm more worried about beating Tom Brady after the bye than anything else.
  23. Also, doesn't MLB have exclusivity for online (edit: Video-) streaming of MLB games? Yes, I realize the distinction between a streaming TV bundle like Youtube TV and purely online streaming services (like Youtube, Amazon Prime, or MLB.tv) is painting with a fine brush, but I think the league's position on the matter shuts down this kind of opportunity.
  24. I'm guessing a second bye week wasn't on the table, since it would have meant starting the season a week earlier, which was a non-starter in COVID times.
