  1. Detoured off my Oscar nomination binge when I saw the other Edgar Wright film from 2021 was up on Netflix (the one which isn't "Last Night in Soho"). Highly recommend "The Sparks Brothers" to any music fans; I find myself wondering how I don't recall ever hearing of the band, despite them being adjacent to so much of the stuff I grew up listening to.
  2. Trying to get a jump-start on my Oscars 2022 Best Picture watch, while I still have a 4K Netflix subscription. (Especially since Marcus Theaters won't movie marathon any film they didn't give a theatrical run....if that's still a thing they do in the COVID-times.) Watched Power of the Dog, which...went places I wasn't quite expecting. While most of the movie was about Cumberbatch's character, I don't feel like the relationship between the Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst characters was well-defined or well-served by the story (which is ironic, since they are a real-life couple). Will probably watch Tick, Tick, Boom next; I have heard good things about Andrew Garfield's performance (and he might have been in some other thing I watched recently), and I will probably carve out some time for Lost Daughter & Don't Look Up as well. Anything else I should keep an eye out for?
  3. I'd be really curious to see the splits for AL (with DH) vs. NL (without) home games....mainly to see if the AL has an absolute advantage for inter-league play, or the advantages of the DH in home games outweighs the home advantage of playing without the DH in the NL. Honestly, I prefer the strategic aspects of having the pitchers hit. If that were taken out of the game, I'd almost rather see an 8-man batting order than putting the DH in the National League....but I'm guessing that's a non-starter for collective bargaining.
  4. The main reason I know of Hub Arkush is that he is (was?) a near-weekly guest on Packer radio pregame. Something tells me he won't be getting re-invited to chat any time soon.
  5. The whole game, I was expecting Purdue to put the Badgers away once the bigs got into foul trouble….and they tried, but Davis, Davison, and Hepburn kept fighting back and rallying to keep them in it. Then Johnny took over, and made great decisions late to kill the clock and cut short the chances for a Purdue comeback. I love this year’s team.
  6. New additions to the COVID List: CB Jaire Alexander (actually added 1/2), T Dennis Kelly, and S Darnell Savage, as well as WR/PR David Moore. https://www.packers.com/news/packers-place-players-on-reserve-covid-19-list-week-18-2021-season Any chance of Rodgers playing goes down significantly if Cole Van Lanen is the next man up at RT. Guessing the team will need to get Bakh or Turner in the lineup, or have a 5-day / asymptomatic turnaround on Kelly before risking #12 out there in a stats-only game.
  7. Same preference, but very different reasons. Brady has only cost Green Bay - at most - one Super Bowl.
  8. ...meaning the Browns will play the Packers coming off 4 days rest / recovery on Christmas Day. I mentioned to one of my co-workers over lunch that the Browns could very well have a different set of players out for that game, assuming we're talking about the new & high transmissibility COVID variant.
  9. We don't have a miscellaneous CBK thread, so I'll put this here for anyone interested: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/32820497/kobe-king-returns-college-basketball-valpo-nearly-two-years-leaving-wisconsin-badgers
  10. I don't love the addition of Renfroe (career .297 OBP) to a Brewers team that struggled to produce runs, particularly through the lens of replacing Avi (career .325 OBP). Conversely, as a replacement for JBJ (career .311 OBP, with notably less power than either), Renfroe is most likely worth the prospect cost. The real question - after the lockout - is what they do with the money saved, both in terms of not having to buy Avi's replacement on the open market, as well as dumping JBJ's 2021 salary?
  11. Just made the switch to DTV Stream a few weeks ago. Will have to trade login credentials with a family member for access to NFL Network (with someone who has YTTV, so they can access Bally Sports WI during Brewers season), but I've been happy with it so far. I wish the interface (through Roku) were a bit more user-friendly, but it's functional.
  12. As a Packer fan, I love absolutely everything to do with how the Bears' org is run Yep, couldn't be happier to see them giving their rookie QB a new offensive system going into year 2. That's always a positive for QB development, and a sign of an organization that knows what it's doing.
  13. Badgers go on a 13-point run to tie the game in the first half vs. Texas A&M. Glad I was able to tune in when I did.
  14. Back to a 1-score game. Time for the defense to get a stop!
  15. Slightly anxious about the Whitney Mercilus injury, if only because we've heard good news about Jones and Gary's injuries not being as serious as feared.
  16. For as much as we've knocked the guy, Amari had a nice punt return there.
  17. Guessing it's a reference to LaFleur, given the translation of his last name.
  18. Much as the outcome sucked, Love actually played well enough to force OT, if the special teams didn't take 6 points off the board.
  19. Allow me to ask why it bothers you? The August statement worked perfectly; it stopped people from asking the types of questions that were directed at people like Kirk Cousins and Cole Beasley, while likewise avoiding any Kyrie Irving-like cancellation, personal or professional. The league and the team all knew his status. It only stopped working because he came down with COVID. I didn't get Rodgers prior "woke cancellation" comments, since Rodgers hadn't really done or said anything warranting cancellation; I assumed he was filtering the socio-political climate through his personal bubble. Knowing he was unvaccinated, and seeing cancellation come to public figures whose non-vaccinated status became public (Joe Rogan being an obvious example)....now it all starts to make some sense. He wasn't projecting nearly as much as I thought he was.
  20. Rodgers out with COVID; Love set to make first NFL start vs. KC. ...but at least Aaron got to show us all his Halloween costume.
  21. Back to films that released in the 2020s, I checked out Last Night in Soho for a $5 Tuesday. Don't know if it qualifies as "Must-see," but I genuinely enjoyed it; definitely went in directions I did not expect...which is as much as I want to say while avoiding spoilers.
  22. It is also visually beautiful. A little too bright for my eyes in the theater at points, but that seemed entirely intentional for scenes from a desert planet. I kept wondering whether I thought the film was easier to follow because I vaguely remembered the David Lynch version, or if they used the extended run-time (factoring in the yet-unfilmed part 2) to better explain what was happening. Between Bond, Dune, Last Night in Soho next week, followed by Eternals, I am putting $5 Tuesdays at Marcus Theaters to good use right now.
  23. Let the record reflect, I have taken my name out of consideration for the Mets G.M. position.
  24. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/10/27/marquez-valdes-scantling-making-trip-to-arizona-and-could-play/ I'd type up a summary of the story, but I think the URL kinda already does that.
  25. The Cardinals down the stretch were relentlessly aggressive at taking extra bases and putting pressure on the opposing pitcher. It was exciting baseball, except the part about them being the Cardinals & the division not being entirely wrapped up. Was there an issue with pitching / bullpen use, or is the problem all the months it took before their run to the WC game? Happy to say I don’t get this move.
