  1. Watched ep. 2 after the Brewer's game. More of the same....except worse. For a show that's trying to stick to the procedural framework, they're playing rather fast and loose with the procedure. The crackpot theory that pushes along the plot this week is entirely inconsistent with the plot as it's presented. The theory was that the last thing a person sees would be captured on their retinas. Except we saw the victim strapped in for surgery with her eyes open. The bridge wasn't what she would have seen last. They completely gloss over that to advance the plot. And as long as I'm typing spoilers, maybe you should start researching Dr. Bishop's research assistants and colleagues....but that would be putting the cart before the procedural horse, so I don't expect it to happen. Of course, that would also throw off the shocking discovery that all of the cases our FBI friend and her 'partner' were investigating also tied in to this pattern, which is why she was picked for the job. I think that the female lead is supposed to be written as non-emoting and introspective....or at least I hope so, because the actress (Anna Torv) is coming off as very non-descript. Of course, that could just be in contrast to sarcastic skeptic (Scully?) and the expert who keeps proving the skeptic wrong (Mulder?). I still feel like I'm being too harsh with respect to the show, but "I Want To Believe" it's going to get better.
  2. Braun is now 3-for-3 v. Kerry Wood
  3. Including the hit tonight, Lamb is a career 4-for-8 against Wood.
  4. For the season, the Brewers have the fewest GIDP in the majors. Since 9/1, they're tied with the second-most GIDP in the majors. 15 of their 90 GIDP have come since the start of the month, roughly twice the full-season rate.
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com...layers/bvsp?playerId=3331 Cameron v. Dempster (13 ABs) - .231 .286 .231 .516
  6. http://www.avsforum.com/a...vb/forumdisplay.php?f=167 Look up your model number, and see if you can find a thread about the TV. Chances are someone else has run into this issue already.
  7. AP Story Interesting timing, to say the least.
  8. I said it at mid-season, I'll say it again. My pick would be Buck Showalter -- give me a no-nonsense, no excuses guy to whip this team into shape. He gets special consideration since he's a former Yankee manager (Mark A's old favorite team). You usually never hear this said, but I really hope they don't try to force-feed us someone with organizational ties.
  9. In all fairness, I've made the same comparison internally over the past few years, but never said it due to the apolitical bend of the site. (I probably have a different rationale than most here would, but that's all I'll say in that regard.) Ben, i would assume they PH for him...that's commonplace, as you are usually behind. That did happen in at least one of the games (Padres game on the 7th), but IMO, if your long reliever is due up in the next inning, you double switch at the bottom of your lineup, or put in a 1-inning guy followed by your long reliever in the next inning. It wouldn't bother me, except that McClung was one of the Brewers more consistent pitchers before going into the rotation (not best, just consistent) and since coming out of the rotation has been bypassed by less-effective guys (e.g. Riske), presumably because of Seth's new role in the bullpen.
  10. Something else I haven't seen mentioned. In the 4 "Johnny Whole-staff" games this month, Seth McClung has pitched no more than 2 innings in any of them. If he's the long reliever in the bullpen, and was taken out of the rotation, why hasn't he sucked up more innings (when the starting pitchers just sucked)?
  11. Odds that Davey Nelson steps in to fill the 3b coaching job for the next few weeks?
  12. Well, Dale can't wave guys around 3rd to get gunned down at the plate if he's in the dugout. Nothing in the official announcements indicate who will be added in as the 3b coach....which makes the Kremblas dismissal even more oddly-timed.
  13. Hart's OPS has dropped 100 points from last season's totals, and are more in-line with his part-time season of 2 years ago. Most of the fall-off has been OBP, mirroring the problems of the rest of the team. Hart in 2008 = Geoff Jenkins in 2007, and most people thought he was a big part of the problem then. He's one of the most disappointing guys on the team in the second half.
  14. The previous season of Entourage via Netflix. Finally got out No Country for Old Men, which I'd been sitting on for nearly a month. Brewers / Packers / Badgers. Most of the Adult Swim shows that I care about are in reruns now, but I'll catch any new shows on the TiVo. Looking forward to most of the NBC comedies returning, starting with SNL over the weekend.
  15. ...as long as you own a Playstation (since the MLB 'xx Series is Sony-exclusive). The reason that EA was trying to buy TakeTwo (not just 2k games) was that they would be the beneficiary of a Grand Theft Auto 4 -sized payday which wasn't being priced into the value of the stock. EA would have made good use of the rest of 2k's portfolio to be sure, but baseball games don't traditionally sell as well as NFL, NBA, NHL, or even golf games. It's just not that big of a revenue source.
  16. As much as I'm sure some of the BF.net audience doesn't want to hear it, I think that means we'll be seeing more PH opportunities for Tony Gwynn Jr., who becomes the 4th outfielder by default.
  17. As someone who got into Alias during the first season, and started watching Lost from the Pilot....I feel like I've been here before. The biggest difference between this trip through the story and the past few times, is that there's no role for Greg Grunberg this time. I mean that only slightly facetiously; while the actor is busy (he plays Matt Parkman on Heroes, but has otherwise found his way into the vast majority of Abrams' work - not unlike Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi), the likeable, relatable character he typically plays isn't anywhere to be found. Instead, we have a fractured House, Pacey Witter with a science degree, and the protagonist. Plus, I just couldn't buy the parkour-esque chase sequence...and I saw the swerve coming. I'll try to give it a few more episodes, but the characters seemed too cookie cutter, and the plot a bit too scattershot to draw me in.
  18. based loaded, 0 outs, Gwynn up. I want to go on record as predicting the triple-play.
  19. I think that last night's marathon-length game had that effect on most of the Brewers fans (or just me too).
  20. Was that Spider-Man 2 or 3? (I think it was 2.)
  21. The change in policy wouldn't bother me so much....if it weren't still cheaper to buy 3 soda bottles at a gas station on the drive in to the game than it is to buy 1 at the stadium.
  22. Gimmie all your Lovin' - ZZ Top Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley (that's right.... Rick-roll 'em!) Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer Hold My Hand - Hootie and the Blowfish (which I have a copy of from a CD one of my friends made for his wedding) Do You Believe in Love? - Huey Lewis and the News (better song than Power of Love, IMO) Stolen - Dashboard Confessional (lyrics even fit the season) All I Need is a Miracle - Mike + the Mechanics Love's Divine - Seal Girlfriend - Matthew Sweet
  23. This would be the third time I can think of this year when the Brewers could be swept by a playoff probable (Red Sox, Cubs, and now Mets). The way they've looked borderline-capable during these dead streaks - all in games which should show how they stack up against the competition - really has me worried about their expectations going into the playoffs. I wasn't worried previously....but I'm getting there now. If it were just that the bats or pitching went cold, I could deal with that....but the mental errors (defense, hanging pitches, and stranding baserunners) made me change the channel last night, and turn off today's game. (I'll still keep track of the box score online, and tune back in when they show signs of life, but I don't like to watch when they play like this.) "Sheets and CC, then pray for relief-y."
  24. Thank you, JJ for sliding past the Catcher's leg blocking the plate instead of trying to slide through it. (That scene gave me a horrible flashback.)
