  1. Bad AB from Kapler, leaving the runner @ 1b.
  2. Just to make sure that it's mentioned, the major difference between the current 80GB version of the PS3 and the upcoming version (based on the current 40 GB console) is that the current PS3 plays some PS2 games (though not all of them....Sony has a database available on its website). The future version of the PS3 is not backwards compatible at all. Also, just to update this thread to talk about media streaming....the PS3's firmware has been updated to allow you to copy files from your media server for play on the PS3. This is how I watch most of my video podcasts now (Totally Rad Show, 1UP Show, etc.). It's well worth learning how to do, if you don't already have a means of watching podcasts on a TV screen.
  3. http://www.nbcolympics.com/baseball/index.html It doesn't look like Baseball gets underway until the 13th. (How sad is it that, after this year's games....baseball won't be an olympic sport, but Ping Pong still will be?)
  4. 1.) Sheets 2.) Braun 3.) Hardy 4.) Parra 5.) Kendall (Fielder has been suspended from my top 5, pursuant to fighting with player 4.)
  5. Manny and Prince were talking about something, moving from right to left across the dugout. Manny flung / whipped down his jacket (towards the chair, away from Prince), and Fielder shoved him into the bench. Braun and Durham came over to corral Prince.
  6. Kendall's throwing decision cost Parra a no-decision (for the time being).
  7. Re: Thome / Howard. Don't forget that Jim Thome came through the minors as a 3b. (Can't remember whether the Indians acquired Matt Williams or Travis Fryman first, but one of the two prompted a move across the diamond.) It's a lot easier to accept a platoon at 3b than it is at one of the most demanding offensive positions on the field (1b). Also, Cleveland could get extra ABs for the platoon-mate via the DH.
  8. We tried to tell you... I paid the $5 for it off iTunes, and was not disappointed (although I preferred ep. 2 to 3, for what it's worth). Joss Whedon is one of the funnier writers in Hollywood right now, and it's great to see the ideas he can play with when he doesn't have to worry about Fox cancelling whatever he's working on.
  9. To clarify, the version of the 80 GB PS3 that is currently available (including the MGS4 limited edition), has software-based backwards compatability. This is the same kind of BC that the XBox 360 has....meaning it works with most of the games from the respective console's previous generations, but not all of them. The current 40 GB PS2, and the upcoming 80 GB version (which will eventually be the only available version of the PS3) do not have any backwards compatability. Some of the older versions of the PS3 - the 20GB and 60 GB models (the one I have) - included the PS2 hardware within the PS3. In terms of console support, I would still expect the PS2 to receive versions of the big games (e.g. Madden) for maybe another year. In June, the PS2 sales were still ~ 85% of the XBox 360....so the system keeps selling, based largely to the backlog of games already available on the console. There may be one or two holdout titles that opt for PS2 instead of PS3 (Persona 4 being the only one I can name....and that's quite niche.), but virtually all major developers have shifted their focus to the next-gen consoles.
  10. Hall hits HRs in back-to-back games, and now all of his flaws should be overlooked. Bill Hall fandom in a nutshell. Even one of the two HRs exemplified the problem with Hall....just because you can pull a pitch on the outside of the plate for a HR 1% of the time....doesn't mean you should try to do it every AB. His batting average has gone down in 4 consecutive seasons. His OBP has declined in each of the past 3 seasons. He's just now brought his OPS up to where it was last year (when we all thought he underachieved). One hot month does not make up for a full season. If he can bring his BA/OBP up to respectable levels by the end of the year....then we'll start talking about an apology.
  11. If memory serves, they were doing some re-shoots for TDK at the time of Ledger's passing, but his re-shoots had been finished / weren't necessary. (Tried to find a source to back that up, but the film's box-office take makes it a bit tougher to find what I'm looking for on Google...more effort than I'm willing to take.)
  12. Ouch. That was like a right to the gut. Some of us are that much of a dork. It doesn't hurt that Street Fighter 4 is coming out by the end of the year....but I still would have known the characters without looking them up.
  13. Patrick Dempsey with jaw implants?
  14. "The hammer is my...." I love the concept, love the cast, and hate that there are only 3 episodes. I'm buying it on iTunes, it's that good.
  15. The promotional giveaway / Big blue references reminded me....didn't Nomo start the rain-delayed, umbrella night giveaway that season? I suddenly got the mental image of an entire stadium spinning blue and white umbrellas during the break. Anyone else remember that?
  16. I guess all the lightning was out of the bottle. Fare thee well, Nomo-san.
  17. Not including Soul Calibur 4 (PS3) which I'll have well before fall... Definitely buying Rock Band 2 (PS3), Street Fighter 4 (PS3), Chrono Trigger (DS) and Fire Emblem (DS). Probably buying Madden (PS3), Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (PS3 -- even though it's not being made by RavenSoft), Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PS3....but only after I finally buy and play Tools of Destruction). Might pick up Sam & Max: Season One (Wii)...or I might pick that up for PC when I get a new laptop. Will probably get Bioshock (PS3) at some point, but not this fall / winter. I need to see more of Ghostbusters, Mirror's Edge, Fallout 3, Naruto... (PS3), Valkyria Chronicles (PS3), Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4 (PS2), and Mario Super Sluggers (Wii) before making a buying decision. (This All-Star game needs to end soon, so I can finish playing the games I already own!)
  18. I had a nice, long response worked up to this question, but Yuku ate it. The much shorter version...just courses in WI that I like: University Ridge, Madison (student discount actually allowed me to golf it more than once) Big Fish, Hayward (probably the nicest course I've played....but expensive) Brown County GC, outside Green Bay (although I was a much worse player back when I used to golf there) Highland Ridge, Green Bay (inconsistently maintained, but I still like the course layout; my family makes a trip there at least once a year to play the back 9) ....Still need to play the Sentry World course in Stevens Point; I've heard good things about it. I'd also like to play the course they use for the U.S. Bank Championship (Brown Deer) at some point. lcbj68c, have you tried Brighton Dale Golf Links in Kenosha County? Depending on how far out you consider Milwaukee Metro, the prices are reasonable, and the course has normally been well maintained when I've played there.
  19. Their old "Buy 1 T-Shirt, get 5 Free" sales campaign takes on a whole new meaning now. I always appreciated the old store down on State Street, but they've massively overextended themselves in the past 5 years. Can't say I'm surprised to hear they're going bankrupt.
  20. That's an important point to keep in mind. If the team does decide to trade Fielder in the off season, there's a decent chance that the acquiring team will have a 1b that they would no longer have use for. (That said, long-term, I'm still expecting it to be Gamel at 1b; the last two prospects the Brewers have tried to fit into the 3b position - Hart and Braun - couldn't stick there, so I don't see why Gamel is going to be the one to prove the scouting consensus wrong.)
  21. Mark Belling just mentioned this on his show, and I don't see it on the J-S Brewers' blog. (It's in the J-S NewsWatch) Interesting reading. For the record, I'm guessing that's an 'accounting' loss for the season (after things like debt service).
  22. I seem to remember Geoff Jenkins making a similar media tour during the very first "extra player" All-Star voting cycle. The Brewers PR staff does a good job with these things.
  23. Out of curiosity, am I the only one who used the 'contact' link on CC's website to welcome Sabathia to Milwaukee (or, at least, say 'Hi' to his webmaster)?
