  1. Edit: whoops, I forgot they changed home field advantage this year.
  2. It's a promotion/advertisement for PC Richard and Son, a local appliance store: (Just as I am typing this the Brewers strike out twice)
  3. I think most of the people are missing the point of this signing. The Cardinals simply have the monetary resources to take the risk that the baby Molina falls off a cliff offensively, and invest the goodwill of ensuring a franchise player retires with the club. A small market team like the Brewers has to stay laser focused on ensuring their expenditures strongly contribute to winning. Even if he becomes an offensive black hole they'll have the resources to make up for it elsewhere. If I have anything to be annoyed about it's how much his batting average has inflated his value and how often he grounds into double plays.
  4. in 1989, with a 6-3 lead in the 9th against toronto, the bases loaded and one out, trebelhorn pulled greg brock from first base put chuck crim there. tony fossas came in to relieve, and walked in a run. trebelhorn pulled fossas, moved crim back to the mound, and brought in terry francona to play first. crim retired the next two batters for the save. I also have vague memories of Trebelhorn using a 5 man infield. Does anyone else remember this?
  5. Who would have Papelbon choked after the Brewers 2014 collapse if they would have traded for him at the deadline? Braun?
  6. As much as it pains me to say this, it feels like that MA will give Stearns a much longer leash because he's "his guy", as opposed to Melvin who he inherited from the previous regime. I think Gord is as good as gone, unless he's been hiding analytics acumen from Doug Melvin all these years. Will be interesting to see how much cleaning house Stearns does and how much involvement Melvin has past the transition period. Nice to see MA own up for his goal of having the team competitive rather than winning it all, but hindsight and all that. On the other hand, I can't see him being too regretful as I think it was necessary to give the franchise some financial stability to make it capable of carrying through lean years.
  7. I have to believe this is a fairly common occurrence, just most pitchers do it more discreetly. I remember Éric Gagné in his later stint with the Brewers going to the underside of his cap quite blatantly but never getting called on it, presumably since him getting ejected would result in the Brewers bringing in a more effective pitcher.
  8. I have to think that front offices, like all of us, have finite amounts of time. Perhaps they thought it wasn't worth the time to try and work a deal rather than releasing him outright and waiting for a club to pick him up for the league minimum.
  9. Wes Helms has to be one of my least favorite Brewers of all time. I just hated watching him play. For the life of me I still can't understand why Wes Helms was somehow higher than any other Brewer in deserving to get booed. For one thing he wasn't THAT bad. He never had a year here with an OBP under .330; yeah he was a butcher at 3rd' date=' but it's not like he wasn't trying. He only made about $5M here total in 3 years, it's not like he robbed the franchise blind. We've had worse players and worse contracts come through Milwaukee. By all accounts of the coaches he worked with in Milwaukee, he did try hard. He never once badmouthed the franchise or said anything bad about the fans. He helped us into the playoffs on the last day of the season in 2008. Someone please explain to me why Wes Helms deserved so much to be booed but a guy who literally cheated the franchise out of $110 million dollars apparently does not. I've heard countless people say they hated Helms and booed him; not one has ever been able to give a legitimate reason as to why. If it's simply that he showed up to camp out of shape, he certainly wasn't the first or last. He did give effort on the field. Yost even said he had to lock him out of batting cages because he was trying TOO hard. Most folks here seem to be reasonable when it comes to booing, putting a human perspective on things and realizing these guys are people and out there doing their best, and for most of us, that's good enough not to boo a guy. Yet when it comes to Helms, the gloves come off and none of that matters anymore. It's very weird to me.[/quote'] For me it was the perception that Helms was one of Yost's good ol' boys that would get playing time regardless of how much he was struggling. So it was maybe 25% booing his performance and 75% the fact that he was out there to begin with. But in either case, hard to get excited about a guy whose most exceptional skill was hitting sacrifice flies.
  10. I hear Bobby Valentine and Wally Backman would be interested in Major League gigs. Maybe Yost will get fired for his comments about Lawrie and we can party like it's 2003? In all seriousness I could see Narron getting a fair shake considering the last two managers have been from outside the organization. Unsure who the other rising stars are.
  11. I would boo Wendy Selig-Prieb at every opportunity. I booed Yost whenever he made a boneheaded move (i.e. a whole lot). Never been one to kick a hometown player when they're down other when they're phoning it in and clearly don't want to be here.
  12. Who was the last Brewers to do a farewell tour and still be somewhat productive? I'm struggling to think of anyone...
  13. If you assume he and DM are gone at the end of the season a midseason dismissal could be a way for the ownership to appeal to the fans if things go south.
  14. I was about to say, I'd have more cycles to pay attention to Cleveland if I wasn't so distracted with Yost in KC.
  15. I recall a game where he refused to pinch hit Kevin Mench for Geoff Jenkins facing a LHP. Was screaming at my television. I was pretty defeated by the time the Brian Shouse/Ryan Howard incident occurred, but was rather relieved at the result.
  16. Me and the wife will be at the Saturday evening game. The fans are polite and respectful, and unlike Cubs fans, actually know baseball. I was at the last Brewers series at Fenway (despite not living on the east coast at the time), and took the Fenway tour. I'd recommend it as well. There was a large Brewers contingent that time, but I suspect there'll be lower numbers this year. Be sure and get a Fenway Frank!
