  1. I hate to pull such a drastic measure so early in the season, but with a week of loses and a soft tossing lefty on the mound, we gotta pull out all the stops.... http://starbulletin.com/1999/01/06/features/artb.gif
  2. It's Victor The Vampire's first night start this season. This has to be a sure sign of the streak stopping. I remember watching Kirk Rueter pitch at County Stadium a back in 1998. It was during the Brewers annual Spring Madness promotion (half priced tickets along with dollar dogs and soda...great deal). So a buddy and I drove about 4 1/2 hours from our small Indiana college to Milwaukee for the game. Rueter picthed a gem. But thankfully Scottie Karl was able to keep the game close. Trailing 2-0 going into the 7th, the Crew rallied for runs in the 7th and 8th. Eventually sending the game into extra innings. Thanks to a clutch hit from current SF Giant Marquis Grissom (I think?) in the 12th to score Bobby Hughes, the Crew won 3-2 and completed a 3 game sweep of the Giants. Rueter vs Karl in 1998 at CS
  3. My hope is that El Caballo sees Andy Pettitte on the mound, gets confused, thinks he back in the American League and starts hitting. 4. If we're pulling out all the stops. I think we might need a cheese sandwich w/pickles picture posted in this thread sometime soon. That definitely ignited the rally on Monday. Last night, I dosed off in my recliner after Sheets threw that errant knuckledball to Overbay and had a dream/vision. In this dream, Jervey Lopster appeared and said "don't worry! This team has the potential for a 20 win month." I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
  5. According to the line-ups on MLB.com, it's Sheets and Jenkins is even back. Historicallly, he hits Oswalt. So let's hope that continues. Billy Hall is playing in place of JJ. Go get em' Ben.
  6. It's a classic match-up of the Number 1 and #2 starters on the 2000 Olmpic team facing each other tonight. Ben ain't going to miss this. No flu will keep this guy down. He's tough as nails. I say Sheeter only adds to his growing legend by tossing a 2 hit shutout tonight. Sidenote: With everyone changing their name, I think my handle SlideBernieSlide might actually be one of the oldest handles here now. My bio says "Proud member since October 31, 2001". In fact, I'm typing this while wearing my Brewerfan.com T-shirt Est 2001. Oh yeah!
  7. Heiling might actually give up 10 earned runs in less than 6 innings of pitching and still get the Win. Betcha don't see that too often. The Prince, Corey Hart and Nelson all with some very solid plate performances this afternoon. Also, good to see Tony Jr keeping his solid effort in Huntsville going.
  8. G-love certainly deserved better! This team needs to get out of Milwaukee. Hopefully, some road games will do us some good. On the positive, we miss Clemens in Houston and Schmidt and Bonds in SF.
  9. Horrific day for the Bullpen (except Turnbow). Losing streak grows to 5. Not liking the chance of it stopping on Wednesday with Obermueller vs. Oswalt. Next off-season let's get these boys some flu shots.
  10. Bernie Brewer is heartbroken Turnbow for Closer
  11. Nice job, G-love. Now it's time for King Jorge to shut-em down!
  12. Very solid line for Sarfate today. Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Sarfate 6.0 2 0 0 2 8 0 3.31
  13. And Steiner still calls him Chad. That was a Bomb
  14. Heck ya! Nice inning G-love. That was like an 8 pitch inning.
  15. Carlos was playing on the warning track. I know Drew has got power, but that seemed a little deep. No worries though, G-love gets out of it with a fly out to right.
  16. G-love today and possibly Obermueller against Oswalt tommorrow (because of Sheets' flu). Could make an even long week even longer. Hopefully, G-love has the slider sliding and the bats awake. El Caballo has got to snap out this funk sometime soon, right? I'm thinking today will be that day. Also, JJ with an RBI double (scoring Cirillo) at some point in today's game.
  17. Yuck. When it rains it pours. Time for G-Love to put the brakes on this 4 game skid. Come on G-Love!
  18. I'm hoping the ghosts at the Pfister Hotel kept the Dodgers up late last night, especially Odalis. Hopefully, they'll come to the ballyard a little sluggish tonight. Check out this little blurb I found in the Dodger media notes yesterday. "The Dodgers are returning to the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee tonight and tomorrow, which is haunted by ghosts, according to some who have stayed there. During a trip to the Pfister in 2001, Adrian Beltre heard knocking noises on his door, while the television and air conditioning repeatedly turned on and off. He also claims to have heard pounding noises from the other side of his headboard like a man hitting his open hand against the wood." We need Capuano to get his pitch count under control. In his first 2 starts, he's been getting his pitch count too high too early. Maybe Mike Maddux should rub some sun tan oil on the guy and try to mentally fool him into thinking he's back in Spring Training pitching in Arizona.
  19. For those heading to the Stadium this weekend, some decent pitching match-ups! Friday Night: Jeff Suppan (0-1, 11.25) vs. Ben Sheets (1-1, 3.86) Saturday Afternoon: Chris Carpenter (1-1, 7.84) vs. Doug Davis (2-0, 2.77) Sunday Afternoon: Jason Marquis (0-0, 1.46) vs. Victor Santos (0-0, 3.60)
  20. Hats off to Brady Clark (3-4), El Caballo (big GW RBI double), Nintendo (Dong and very nice bunt) and of course the bullpen (4 scoreless innings of relief). Good to finally start being able to beat the Pirates!
  21. So who'll pitch the 9th? JDLR or Lurch? Rick White is my new favorite Brewer
  22. You just knew walking the pitcher was going to come back and haunt Cappie. Throwing a lot of pitches in this inning.
  23. Not a bad outing at all by G-Love. Although, I think it's been almost 3 years since he's thrown over a 100 pitches in a big league game. So if his arm is still attached when he wakes up on Wednesday that's a good sign! I'm starting to think Neddly Yost is becoming so aggressive that he's predictable. And that's never a good thing. Curses to Craig "I Used to be Thor" Wilson for robbing JJ "Heartthrob" Hardy's 1st big league Homer. Curses Thor! Hopefully good things happen tommorow afternoon against Josh "Cy Young vs. Milwaukee" Fogg.
  24. Playmaker. No worries. While Redman did have much success against the Brew Crew in years past. We now have El Caballo. And he knows the secret of hitting Mark Redman and he'll share that with his teamates. Carlos' career numbers against Redman... .348 (8-23, 2 HR). Given that Redman probably knows those numbers well, I'd expect the lefty to pitch around El Caballo most of the night.
