  1. same here. although a relatively early start and a quick game tonight for once (so far) have been nice.
  2. He's been really good, but I'm very worried about Fiers going through the lineup a third time (well, at least facing Kemp again). Hope he keeps it up, or at least no one is on base for Kemp.
  3. agree with this 100%, on both counts. I don't have a problem with anyone accepting it either, I'm just pointing out why I personally don't.
  4. To bring this over to this thread, a boxer's fracture is pretty specific and not general at all. It's a fracture at the neck of the 4th or 5th metacarpal (essentially just below the knuckle of your pinky or ring finger). And it gets that name because 99% of the time it's a result of a closed fist striking a hard/immovable object (in the words of two orthopedic surgeons who saw my x-ray, which probably looks a lot like Lucroy's since it had the same diagnosis). I guess there's always a small chance he's telling the truth, and I hope for his sake he isn't as dumb as I am (that's me being self deprecating, not criticizing Luc), freak accidents happen. Sorry, I said I'd stop talking about this...but then I saw this in the other thread, and I feel like there are plenty of reasons to doubt Lucroy's story. I don't have any sort of a problem with him using a story (I did the same thing) I just think it's an interesting discussion, and something I can (unfortunately) speak to through experience. Being awful at baseball I don't get to do that a lot here, unless someone brings up Wil Nieves for some reason.
  5. I agree. Are you hurt or are you injured? Players try to play through injuries all the time. I don't see the big deal. Yea, that all makes perfect sense. when I broke my hand it got real swollen, real fast. But I didn't think it was broken. I think I injured it on a thursday (maybe even a wednesday) and didn't get it x-rayed until sunday. I probably knew something was wrong the next day but I didn't get it checked out partly because I'm stupid, and partly because I have poor healthcare coverage through school (and no money as a result of school) so I didn't want to admit something was really wrong. So once Luc tried BP yesterday he knew something was wrong and got it checked out. Makes total sense to me. How the break actually happened doesn't. It wasn't anything baseball related (like a pitch off the knuckle) because there's no reason for a story if that was the case. Maybe it was the freak accident with a suitcase, but they call it a boxer's fracture for a reason. That's not me thinking any less of Lucroy. Stuff like that happens, and I know first hand why someone would come up with a story rather than say they punched a wall (in my case). Anyway, like many people have said there's really no reason to debate it. Unfortunately he's injured and he'll be out. That's what matters here. Hopefully he doesn't need surgery because that probably prolongs the recovery time a little bit (and means the break was more severe), the team can pick it up without him, and he'll come back with a hot bat. Also, surprised no one has mentioned Suppan's pillows yet in regards to dumb injuries. I don't think it put him on the DL, but it's hard to top that.
  6. Not believing his story is not the same thing as a personal attack
  7. It swells up pretty quickly, he would have noticed it. I also don't know why he would be making a fist behind the plate. Or why he would say something about a suitcase if it was baseball related
  8. Adambr already touched on this, but I've also had a boxers fracture (this past February I punched a wall, not my proudest moment). My uncle is an orthopedic surgeon, and when I used my "it got stepped on playing soccer" story he laughed in my face. He said he's seen thousands of them, and they're almost always a result of punching something. Very rarely it can result from something like running and falling and having your closed fist strike something (like the corner of a stair). There are probably others, but it happens because the momentum of your fist strikes something stationary. Not vice versa. So this is almost assuredly a fabricated story. Hopefully luc has a better excuse than me or adambr. I'll go ahead and assume he was protecting his wife's honor.
  9. No matter how ugly this game/series gets (and I'm not saying that because I'm freaking out down 1-0, this is just a general observation) i'll be able to watch because I could listen to vin scully talk about anything.
  10. I think most would prefer this, but I really don't see the Rangers trading Profar for 14ish starts of Greinke. I understand they've come so close recently that they'll want to do something to get over the top.....but would you make that trade if you were the Rangers? I think Castellanos is a much more realistic target. I think when people talk about trading for him they're not saying they'd rather have him than Profar/Machado, it's just that it's the next best option because those guys are likely not on the table. I think a guy like Castellanos or Christian Yelich from Miami. The Marlins probably don't need pitching at the moment, but they will once Josh Johnson inevitably goes on the DL. The Marlins also have a decent number of high-risk/high-reward type power arms in the lower part of their system that could be thrown in as well.
  11. Aoki's playing today. It's his 5th start in the last 6 games. Not really sure what you're complaining about here. Is this a problem? Kottaras (and to an even greater extent, Lucroy) is one of the better hitters in our lineup. Outside of moving Corey Hart there (and he's been hitting well since moving to leadoff), who would you propose hits cleanup? Lucroy and Kottaras have the 2nd and 3rd highest OPS's on the team. I get that you have to complain about every single thing that Roenicke does, but you're really stretching at this point.
  12. Two singles and two walks call for an automatic pull? If every manager did this their bullpen would be gassed by July. When Greinke's already given up four runs, and has thrown nearly 70 pitches in two innings pitched? Absolutely. And if McClendon comes in and gives up a HR to McDonald (or allows the inherited runners to score), people come here and question why RR didn't let Greinke try to work out of it like he did in the 1st inning. It's easy to say in hindsight. I'm not saying you're wrong, but most managers are going to let their ace try to work out of that. I would agree that he should have been pulled immediately after the HR though. No further damage came of it, but he did put two more baserunners on.
  13. I don't think Greinke is bringing in either Profar or Machado. Obviously you make that phone call (if and when it comes to that about a month from now), but I don't think you'll have a taker on the other end. I don't see those guys getting traded for a half season of a pitcher (even if that pitcher is awesome). if you insist on a SS, I think you have to move down the list a little bit and look at a guy like Jean Segura (if the Angels can get their heads above water, there's a lot of pressure for them to make the playoffs. holy cow imagine that rotation) or Andrelton Simmons (although I don't see the Braves looking to deal for pitcher, barring injury). The Red Sox have two solid prospects in Bogaerts or Iglesias (although his bat may never come around) and could use a starter. Not suggesting a 1 for 1 swap of Greinke with those guys, I just think they're more realistic targets and you can build a package from there. I don't really see any of those guys as sure things though, and like I said I don't see the Rangers or Orioles parting with the guys who would be sure things...so I think you have to look past SS. Even though it's a position of depth at the moment, if Corey Hart isn't in the plans past 2013 (and to a lesser extent Gomez, Morgan, and Aoki), I think trading for an OF isn't the worst idea. I guess it depends on what you think of Gindl, but there's a pretty good chance the brewers have OF holes in the future. But really though, they would just need to get back a player (preferably more) that projects to be a long term answer at any position except for LF and C. Those are the only spots with contracts past 2014, and if the guy they get back for Greinke is as good as we hope...they'll find a spot for his bat when the time comes. But get a top 50ish hitter with some lower minor/high upside pitchers. And personally, I think the Brewers are going to go on a decent run in June and get close to .500 (look at that schedule, and some guys HAVE to bounce back, right?)...which in the NL Central, as well as with a 2nd wild card, will keep them within shouting distance of the playoffs (~4 games) and they won't sell. I don't know if this is me being optimistic because I still have faith in the team, or if it's pessimism because they likely won't make the playoffs but they'll come close enough that they decide to not trade a guy like Greinke and lose him.
  14. remember when Roenicke used to pinch hit for Izturis late in games? I miss that.
  15. nice to see Aoki rip one to the gap. He's been very good so far and all, but it's a lot of groundballs finding holes or sneaking down the line (not that those are poorly hit). Like seeing him put one in the gap a lot.
  16. first career HR in 350+ plate appearances. that's just fantastic. the surprises keep coming!!!
  17. Aoki has pretty average speed. He's still tough to get out on a groundball because of the way he falls out of the box, not because he has great speed. still, that was a great throw by Cabrera.
  18. To me Ransom would basically be Yuni but with the "upside" of a below average to average defender (as opposed to Yuni). I don't really like the idea of signing ransom...but the more and more I think about it, unfortunately it's come to the point where that's probably an upgrade.
  19. i also need sleep. hopefully they're getting all of the extra innings out of them before the west coast swing.
