  1. The Braves will not trade Simmons. He's their starting SS for their playoff run (and foreseeable future), there's no reason for them to fill a hole while creating another one. And even though they have Pastornicky in AAA it IS creating another hole, because Pastornicky was absolutely terrible this season. It's not that they don't want him, they just don't want him to be their starting SS this season. He looked nowhere near ready to handle MLB pitching (and his AAA line was a fluke last season driven by a .400 BABIP) and his defense was terrible. And that's from me watching games, not looking at a 40 game UZR sample. He is not very athletic and has a weak arm and didn't show whatever instincts he has (from scouting reports, which I do trust....not trying to be condescending) to make him an average fielder. Plain and simple, he is not ready for the majors and the braves aren't going to make a move where he has to be put back in there. So no Simmons, any deal with the Braves will have to be centered around one of their pitchers.
  2. ...and when you go to the Dodgers site, the first headline that hits you is "Dodgers fall out of first place as losing streak hits five games." I smell some desperation in the air. I don't know how they'd match up with us in prospects they could send back, but we have a lot of pieces they'd covet. 1) They have some pitching prospects, but are any of them good enough return for Greinke? Would a package of Zach Lee and Eovaldi be asking too much/too little for Greinke? That would give us a good pitcher to put in the rotation now and next year, and a top prospect who's a couple of years out. 2) A healthy Marcum for either Eovaldi or Lee might be more realistic, and he would be an upgrade for them. 3) Maybe they'd want Wolf back. I don't know how much he's worth, but if we couldn't find a match for Marcum or Greinke, LA could be a team that would trade for Wolf, as he had some good years as a Dodger. 4) I'm sure they'd love Hart to replace Rivera - an outfield of Kemp, Ethier, Hart would be dominant. 5) Their current 3B situation is Uribe and Hairston, so they could use a veteran slugging 3B, and if they like big, they'd love Ramirez's contract. If we could get rid of that contract before it balloons, and get something back in return, I'd be really happy. That's what I was saying a few pages back....desperation + lots of $$$ + Ned Colletti = damn near impossible to lose a trade. Although they don't have a very strong farm system...I don't think they're a match for Greinke, but if Milwaukee decides to go into firesale mode Colletti should be on speed dial.
  3. Pastornicky is not an answer at shortstop. He's a utility guy that can be used as a stopgap until a solution is found (like he was at the beginning of this season). He's an average to above average fielder (not very many physical gifts, but good instincts) with a mediocre arm. He just screams Willie Bloomquist to me. There's a place for guys like that in the league (and on the Brewers), but that's not the piece I'd be looking for by trading Marcum, Hart, or especially Greinke. The Braves are still a good trading partner, and from the talk around here it sounds like they're open to discussing Teheran in a Greinke deal. I know we're all focused on shortstops (for good reason), but if the plan is to maximize talent in the return it's hard to do much better than Teheran. I understand his star has fallen a little bit, but he was still looked at by many as the #1 prospect in baseball coming into this season. With his struggles in AAA this year, maybe you can get Teheran with a lower level guy or two (Nick Ahmed is a shortstop in A+ ball who looks good defensively and competent with the bat) for Greinke.
  4. Would have really like Barton, but Lamb is a good get there. Pretty one dimensional, but it's a good dimension and he should be good for 12-15 points off the bench. I think he's a solid NBA rotation guy (2nd or so guy off the bench), which is good value in the second round.
  5. I like Henson. I think he'll end up being what most hoped Sanders could become. I don't know if Sanders will ever figure it out, so I like the pick. Henson runs the floor really well, and he has really good hands (unlike Sanders, so he at least has some semblance of an offensive game at this point) and can finish on the fast break or cutting to the basket. He could end up as a very good player in the pick and roll. He needs to bulk up and learn how to hit a 15 footer (neither are guaranteed) to hit his ceiling, but I think he was one of the best players available at that pick. Although I think Sullinger was the best available there, and I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority for liking Henson or Sullinger. I didn't really think about drafting henson because I agree he's redundant to Udoh and especially Sanders. But I just think he's talented, so I'm good with it. I'd also be really happy if they moved up and got Barton or Miller right about now. Throw in next years second, I think both of those guys are solid rotation players which are hard to pick up in the second round.
  6. Not a fan of these "out of your mind if think 'x'" posts. Yes Profar might be wishing. But I don't think it should be dismissed outright. Texas has Andrus and Kinsler up the middle for the next couple of years, plus Beltre and Young. Sure they could move one of those guys. But if they really wanted Greinke (and I think they should, since he would put them as the absolute favs for a WS title) and Melvin was really insistent on Profar, it could happen. However, I don't think Melvin is the type to be really insistent on a certain player and I could see him being talked into something less. but wishful thinking like that is more than likely going to lead to "Melvin is an idiot, he should have held out for Profar!" posts if a trade is made for Martin Perez and some mid-tier prospects. It's not going to be Melvin talked into something less, it's going to be Jon Daniels saying "NO" because Profar is a top 2 or 3 prospect in all of baseball. He's also only 19, so he may not see MLB until late next year or 2014. Kinsler is not under contract in 2014, and I believe that is Andrus's last year under contract. I don't really see either guy holding up Profar, or the need to trade Profar so they can sign Kinsler or Andrus to a big deal in 2014 and beyond. Anything is possible I guess, so I understand wanting to temper the "crazy" or "out of their mind" talk...but Jon Daniels is a smart GM and he's not going to trade Profar for a half season of Greinke. I don't even know that he'd trade Olt.
  7. I think you're crazy.
  8. I would not want Eovaldi as a center piece for a Greinke trade in my opinion Eovaldi is a #3 starter tops and probably more realistically is a #4 or #5 type starter. Eovaldi is not someone I want the Brewers to be looking at if they are trading Greinke. The rest of the Dodgers farm system is rather weak and most of their better prospects talent wise are in A ball. I just do not see the Dodgers being any kind of a fit for a Greinke trade. I agree about Eovaldi, I just didn't know if there was anything else there. Didn't think they had a centerpiece, but I thought I would ask. But Ned Colletti is dumb, so my point remains the same for non-Greinke trade discussions then.
  9. Is anyone familiar with the Dodgers system? I know Eovaldi is one of their better prospects, but that's about all I know. I ask because they're about to lose their division lead, they're going to panic, and Ned Colletti can be taken advantage of.
  10. I think Olt/Perez/prospect is expecting too much personally. I think one or the other plus a lower minor prospect or two is more realistic. Hope I'm wrong though.
  11. it wasn't much of a push, I don't think it's a big deal at all. I'm not saying Nyjer wasn't in the wrong....but it just was not a big deal. And I get mad every time I have to see Molina's face, so that's not a fair comparison.
  12. i think it's a solid trade. I don't know if Dalembert can play 30 minutes a game, but if he does I think he's a 10/10 player with solid defense. He's as average as average can be.....but that's an improvement. Agree that it's shaping up to take a guard, but I could still see them taking Leonard if they like him. He's going to be a project, and now he would be coming off the bench for a season behind Dalembert. Although position shouldn't really matter, just take the best guy. I really like a lot of guys, so that's why I don't mind moving down. I'm not sure how much I trust him, but I think I'm ready to swing for the fences and take Perry Jones if he's around. And i know a lot of people are down on Sullinger (he's dropped out of the lottery in a lot of mocks), but I think if he's there at 14 you have to consider him. The guy knows how to score, is a solid rebounder, and a pretty good passer.
  13. i doubt nyjer morgan even hears from MLB, let alone is suspended. not a chance.
  14. he reached into the stands to grab a foul ball. probably would have caught it, but two fans were also going for it (which I agree is fair game). As he backed away he gave one of the guys a little push with his glove, and they had a few words. Nothing terrible, but it definitely didn't need to happen.
  15. i'm pretty sure there's a thread about cutting/trading nyjer morgan. and there has been for a few weeks now. morgan also has a .277/.356/.354 line over the past two months. That doesn't take into account a few very boneheaded plays over the past few series....but his job in the 2 hole is to get on base, and he's been doing that pretty well.
  16. good lord cameraman. i thought that was out of the park.
  17. i'm stunned that the brewers have won 12 one run games.
  18. i dont think it had anything to do with a trade. I think it was more about wanting to push another run or two across. Although with no outs and no force for a double play, i don't really see the need. Let Greinke take some hacks and try to hit a sac fly, if he doesn't you still have two more outs to work with. Although Loe pitched great in the 7th, so I guess it's a moot point.
  19. please stop calling the fox saturday game the "national game". i hate saturday baseball so much.
  20. im guessing nyjer morgan's inability to hit LHP played into it. definitely not the right call, but maybe the line of thinking is "he's going to get out either way, maybe he can push a run across this way". Of course that would entail him getting the bunt down in the first place.
  21. maybe they're trying to keep it close in the hopes the bullpen has a nice outing for once, and can build some momentum.
  22. Chapman threw 17 pitches that inning. 3 of them were in the strike zone. Sure would have been nice if Braun got ball 4 like he should have. I'm sure Gomez wouldn't have got a bunt down anyway, but it would have been nice.
