  1. Minneosta broadcast's keys to the game: -Don't walk anyone in front of Braun. -Walk Braun. Ha, awesome.
  2. are you expecting him to throw a player or coach under the bus after a nice win? It was likely a miscommunication, and that's what he said happened. There's no reason to say more.
  3. Since Gomez came back from the DL: Morgan: .245/.327/.388 Gomez: .236/.300/.327 Neither one of those lines is very good (although if you want to extend Morgan's sample back another month to April 23rd, his OBP is around .350) and I understand that Gomez is a better fielder...but that's almost a 90 point difference in OPS. I expect a lot more out of Morgan as well (maybe the occasional double....?) and he's had a bad game today, but he's been an OK player since a brutal first 3 weeks of the season. He still needs to be better, but given the current roster I think he belongs in the lineup most days against RHP.
  4. According to Baseball Reference, there has been one such season, but it won't let me see who it was because I don't have a paid subscription (I did <= and >=, fwiw). You can search it on fangraphs. It's hard to tell what qualified a player for a batting title, but any hitter that did played in the 1800's. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2012&month=0&season1=1871&ind=1&team=0&rost=0&age=0&players=0&sort=14,a
  5. <3 braun <3. I really felt good about that AB. Liriano nearing 100 pitches, walked gomez twice.....just felt like he was going to groove one.
  6. I think the answer to this question goes a long way to explaining how there have been so many no-hitters/perfect games recently. There are a lot of bad offensive ML baseball teams out there. i thought i read something that said offense is up (avg runs per game) from the past two years. i was shocked by that.
  7. adam dunn had to have been about 5 plate appearances away from that last year.
  8. i was thinking more along the lines of maysonet being in there again instead of Green (although I agree about Gomez and the #2 spot). I get that Liriano's a LHP, so Green isn't getting the start (although that still doesn't explain yesterday)....but even if Taylor Green might not be able to hit LHP (we don't know this because he never gets a chance, 1-3 in his career), I'm pretty sure Maysonet can't hit any pitching. I just think it's a bit ridiculous that in 6 games with a DH, a solid prospect like Taylor Green can barely crack THIS infield. He's going to end up with 2 starts on this road trip, which just doesn't make any sense when the alternatives are what they are.
  9. i'm not even a huge fan of his....but for the love of god free taylor green. 4th straight game in an AL park and he's made 1 start. RF Norichika Aoki CF Carlos Gomez LF Ryan Braun 3B Aramis Ramirez 1B Corey Hart DH Rickie Weeks SS Cody Ransom C Martin Maldonado 2B Edwin Maysonet RHP Yovani Gallardo Nothing like a lineup with 3 guys OPSing under .600. I guess that ignores Ransom's time in Arizona. My point remains the same.
  10. that's very true...it's getting late here and i need some sleep. time to go watch the heat/thunder in bed. ugh, stupid baseball. i hate you so much right now.
  11. that's almost all on maysonet. there's no reason to make that throw to second, and on top of that it was a really poor throw. Rickie still could have handled it and got it home better.....but Maysonet is the one to blame for that run.
  12. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/index.php/whats-wrong-with-rickie-weeks/ Well, that article is also using it incorrectly. If you look at the numbers, Weeks has a LD% of 16.7%, a GB% of 44.7, and a FB% of 38.6%. Conveniently that adds up to 100%, or all of his total plate appearances. If he hit an IFFB on 15.7% of all of his PA...that would mean 40+% of his flyballs land in the infield (15.7/38.6), which just doesn't seem right when you think about it for a second. Also, if you go to his 2003 stats on fangraphs he had an IFFB% of 66.7%, which was higher than his FB% of 50%. And that is not mathematically possible, unless FB% only counts balls to the OF. Which it doesn't, because as we've established LD%+GB%+FB%=100, which wouldn't work if infield flies were ignored. FB% counts both infield and outfield flys, therefore if IFFB% was IFFB/PA it would be impossible for it to be higher than his FB%. It has to be (and it is) IFFB/FB. Again, not questioning your initial point (Weeks is popping up a lot....although that number has dropped almost 5% in the three weeks since that article, so maybe he's making better contact/normalizing to his career rate of 13.7%), just trying to help explain the stat.
  13. IFFB% is calculated as a percentage of fly balls, not plate appearances (i.e. IFFB/FB, not IFFB/PA). If you do the math, Weeks hits an infield fly in about 6.5% of his PAs, meaning that 36-37% of the time he has no chance of getting a hit. That is still not good, and very likely one of the worst marks in the league (would have to be behind Adam Dunn, who has a K% of 37%) so your point is still taken (Weeks has been awful). But just a heads up that you're not using the IFFB% stat correctly
  14. I really don't think anyone would be disappointed if the Brewers went on a run....the majority of those talks about trading were with the caveat that the team was out of it towards the end of June. And I think they picked up quite a bit of steam because no one wanted to talk about the current team losing a series to the Twins, so they found something else to talk about. People are just worried (and rightly so) that the team could just tread water for the next month (go like 14-14 or something) and still be within like 7 games of the playoffs. It may be preferable to some for the Brewers to crash this month and sell as opposed to always just hanging on the fringe of the playoffs (and never really playing that well). But if they go on an actual run (such as a very conceivable 10-5 stretch to start off), no one will be disappointed. I agree with your bottom line and have been saying for quite some time that the June schedule is very inviting, and the team should be able to pull to .500 about halfway through it.
  15. Nyjer is starting to warm up, as well. .323 BA, .400 OBP since May 19. that's a very small sample size. BUT if you want to go to a slightly larger sample size (~95 PA), since April 22nd when he was at .119/.119, Morgan is at .268/.355. The slugging is crappy no matter where you start from....but I think that AVG/OBP is about what we can expect from him here on out. Hopefully he can mix in some doubles.
  16. unfortunately, the play was so awkward/unusual that the ump missed the call. he was clearly out.
  17. really nice inning. please continue to be patient against kershaw, he's at 85 pitches....it would be great to get him out of there after 5.
  18. Aren't the brewers the ones who called it a boxers fracture?
