  1. Hernandez was a good hitter - his last year with the Brewers he hit .288/.356/.478 as a SS. That's pretty awesome. Sexson was a total and complete stud. Hammonds sucked, but it didn't really have anything to do with the K's. Juan Pierre sucks too, and all he does is make contact. That said, this team's going to be near the league lead in K's, too.
  2. I'm glad Ned Yost is the manager and not you. I'll take a .300 hitting batter in the 5-spot on my team any day of the week. There are better hitters in the lineup that hit below him though. He can barely OBP .300 - why is he hitting 5th? It makes no sense.
  3. His OBP isn't terrible, it just isn't alot higher than his average. Coming into the game it was .302. That is revolting. Ausmus has a .363 OBP right now. The NL average for catchers this year is .318, last year is was .327, and in 2005 it was .313. He's below average in that department.
  4. Estrada keeps this up and you seriously have to consider him for the backup C for the all star game, especially if Martin gets voted in instead of McCann. But Martin and McCann are both way better than him. McCann is going to get hot. I could see LaRussa taking Molina, too, because he is an excellent defensive player. Estrada still has a terrible OBP, those 6 HR don't negate that.
  5. Vin Scully has the voice that you would call a "honey dripper". There's some kind of strange romanticism involved with listening to him call a game. He's an institution.
  6. I am seriously in heart with Sollman right now. Youkilis is someone who I thought of in the past that is similar, but Sollman doesn't have the pop in his bat (15 HR or so) that Youk does. I don't know how often players like him make it to the bigs, because he isn't really much of a basestealer (he has had some success this year, though). How many guys walk a lot, K a pretty decent amount, don't hit for power, and don't steal bases are playing in MLB? Craig Counsell, or something? But he can play a mean SS. Gillespie is going to be really, really good. And he's going to be in Milwaukee really, really fast.
  7. LaRoche is going to be a stud. Seriously - 12 BB's in his first 11 games? What's weird is that he was pretty terrible at Vegas prior to his callup.
  8. I think end is saying that they could have both Burrell and Jenkins, at least I think they could. I'd love that. You can certainly find someone else to platoon Jenkins with (because I'd guess Mench would be headed to Philly). Then you still have the whole Corey Hart not playing thing, which kind of sucks. But, yeah, I don't think Burrell would waive his no-trade, and I think the Phillies are going to hang around all year. That's a good team.
  9. If Estrada were to hit second, I would possibly kick my TV.
  10. Al Thornton That is just a good solid basketball player. He's going to be like the Josh Howard/Carlos Boozer guy that was productive in college and got drafted in the mid to late first round (or later) and turns into a very good pro. I'd love for the Bucks to be able to get a guy like that if they were to trade someone for a mid-first.
  11. A bag of gently used baseballs. With rookie league starting up pretty soon, this would be a solid acquisition.
  12. If Weeks is back, he'll lead off. It looks like Gwynn is starting to hit as expected lately. If someone other than Hart is going to play RF, I'm all for Gross, so I endorse Russ's lineup.
  13. The Dodgers pen is pretty excellent. Fortunately they are starting Tomko.
  14. It was way cooler when Vargas was doing an impersonation of a good pitcher.
  15. Ramon Ortiz. Are you seriously? Today is probably a good day for an offensive explosion.
  16. Dear Brewers, This is really hard to watch. I am watching Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Carmen Basilio on ESPN Classic instead. Yours truly, Brett
  17. I think Faygo is at dollar stores. I used to buy three liter bottles of their "Moon Mist" at the one by Best Buy in Rib Mountain, Al. I couldn't say if they still have it, though, because I haven't been there in a long time.
  18. Dear Ned, I agree with the dude who said to start Gross. Also, you should keep batting him leadoff because he is a true leadoff hitter. Thanks in advance, Brett
  19. Dear Twins, Thank you for deciding to go with Scott Baker instead of the more talented Matt Garza or Kevin Slowey. Sincerely, The Brewers
  20. Awesome. Gross is leading off. Ned read yesterday's IGT.
  21. Well, Welch certainly stated his case that he should have been the starter tonight. There is no doubt in my mind that he is ready for the majors. It's Yo time. The majors aren't ready for Yo, though. What role is he going to be put into? I think if they wait it out a little longer (until Vargas totally turns back into a pumpkin), there'll be a spot for him, and it will save the Brewers some major cash in the future. I guess I don't know what the rush is right now.
  22. Would you be willing to give up an Inman for a "quality arm"? Most likely, dependent on who the arm is and what their contractual status is. Inman is my favorite player in the entire organization, but the fact is that he is at high A, and that's not very close to the big leagues. The likelihood of a pitcher his age getting hurt is really high. If they were able to get a good player who has a year of arby left after this season, they'd have to really seriously consider it. If it's for a relief pitcher, or something, then I wouldn't even consider it.
  23. Granderson is pretty sweet, too. Leyland knows K's don't matter with a leadoff hitter. And he's "old school". Granderson had 174 K's last year. He's already got 37 this year. And he's got a .920 OPS. I will say without a doubt that Gwynn will not be as good as Curtis Granderson.
  24. No, I had Jens Lekman forever, but then I went to Dessens because I don't think he sucks. Now I had to go to Opie & Anthony due to recent events.
  25. Weeks doesn't like batting leadoff and he is striking out a lot. I think we could use a leadoff hitter. Gabe Gross can certainly lead off.
