  1. Mench was definitely considered a big part of the deal. Cordero had bombed out in Texas that year and lost the closer's job to Otsuka.
  2. I don't agree with that at all. Gomez gets a better jump and just has much better speed than Morgan. He covers a lot more ground going back, forward and throwing the ball. And by the way, when you say he's "only, " better at coming in on balls and throwing, well, he has a HUGE advantage throwing the ball than Mogan does. So I don't see the two being all that close. In fairness Gomez may be the best defender in the game in CF while Morgan is simply a well above average CF'er. This is pretty much how I feel. As much as I detest watching Gomez try to hit, his defense is a joy to watch. I think he's head and shoulders above Morgan, though I think Morgan is average or maybe above. I love the attacking CF that Gomez plays, though I also loved the easy grace that Mike Cameron played the position with. Even though I am generally more of a fan of offense, watching great CF play is one of my favorite things. As far as Aoki, he shouldn't be in CF at all when you have those two guys healthy.
  3. I think it's also that when he is going bad, he looks really bad since he strikes out a lot, and then they tend to be looking when he isn't seeing the ball well. It probably also has some to do with the expectations and now, the salary.
  4. I think it's just an extended slump, as well. It's really painful watching the fans just waiting to boo the guy, though. It's not like he's a guy that has questionable work ethic, "desire", etc., or has ever said a bad word about the city or anything. Yet it seems like he has always had this tenuous relationship with the fanbase.
  5. Keep throwing them at the wall. Maybe one will stick. I miss Melvin's ability to build a scrap heap bullpen that was relatively effective.
  6. "If they book it right" are certainly the key words. I hope they do, because right now all I watch are the PPV's because I generally don't like Raw on a week-by-week basis. I'd love to see the first hour be devoted to young call-up type guys and give them time to show what they can do, but I just worry that 15 minute John Cena "comedy" segments will now just be 20-25 minutes.
  7. Manny had a monster year for me, though, so it sort of worked, and at least I wasn't watching the games to see him play out there. I have Mike Trout in CF, so there was no need for resting him.
  8. WCW was winning the ratings yet. And they were WAY hotter than WWE is right now. At least they could do a two hour show that got ratings.
  9. I did a fantasy draft for a franchise and have been simulating the games. How do I make Roenicke stop playing Manny Ramirez in CF once a week when he is supposed to be my RH bench bat/DH in interleague?
  10. Alright, I bought a PS3 last night. I basically just set it up and downloaded the most recent official update. I'm totally lost on how to do the minor league ones and stuff, though, so I will likely need help on that, too. When I get home from work tonight, I hope to immerse myself in this game.
  11. ROH had another technical disaster on their iPPV. So frustrating.
  12. I pretty much have quit watching WWE since Mania due to the product being so terrible, but there is an ROH iPPV tonight that should be amazing that I will be buying. Plus they are doing a TV taping at Turner Hall in July that I am extremely pumped for.
  13. There are different ways to skin a cat. The approach Weeks has employed earned him a contract that averages over $10 million a year, made him an all-star, the second pick of the draft, and placed him among the top five offensive position players in the NL according to WAR in 2010. There is zero good reason that he should just scrap the way he hits naturally because of a rough patch to start the season.
  14. He seems to have the tools to be a dominant starter.
  15. Yeah, I don't think it serves much purpose to give him a day off, unless he has an injury. Otherwise, the odds are certainly better for him to do well than someone like Conrad. Just keep trotting him out there and wait for him to get hot.
  16. I would say the Rays were the guinea pig that really started the dramatic shifting. I love Joe Maddon.
  17. I have been looking for those buns in since Ueck first started pushing them and have never been able to find them.
  18. I agree. Guys were/are getting TUE's left and right to keep taking pills with no issue. Not sure why Mota wouldn't just do the same.
  19. I am fine with Aoki getting lots of PT, but not in RF. He and Morgan should not be playing corner spots. I'd rather have a guy like Lee or Branyan or whomever (random minor league journeyman guy) with at least some pop at 1B. The offense isn't good enough to play Aoki at a power position.
  20. Yeah, it was just an odd year. I think it's possible that DH'ing so much for the first time also effected him. He's already at 9 HR this year after only hitting 11 all of last season. His BABIP was also down like 50 points from his career norm and over 80 points down from his Nats seasons. So, it was probably a combination of injury, role change, and luck - a perfect storm, I guess.
  21. Yeah, this has been so fun to watch. Possibly my favorite player in the game. The bomb he hot off of Valverde yesterday was just great. Dunn just went deep again.
