  1. It's going to take a lot more than that...go figure.
  2. I haven't seen the Brew Crew with this much of an advantage heading into a game since CC went up against Lollipop Lilly. C'mon Crew...all streaks start with one!!!
  3. I'm not saying he's done El Caballo, but his best days are behind him...and as crewcrazy points out...that is exactly what they will do. I'm sure Manny will really help that lousy clubhouse too...they should put his locker next to Jeff Kent. Typical Dodgers move. They have not been the same since Fox bought them and traded Mike Piazza. Only their deep pockets keep them mediocre and save them from total oblivion. I hope the next Cubs owner follows the McCourt model.
  4. As a local partial observer of the Dodgers, this trade epitomizes their franchise. Instead of focusing on the building blocks of their decent minor league system like the Red Sox have done and then add the big salaries on top of it...they go out and get these over the hill guys and pay too much. Jones, Kent, Garciaparra...and now Ramirez. Congrats Dodgers...you are now slightly above average and gave up more of your future to do so. McCourt reminds me of Peter Angelos when he first bought the O's...he had no idea what he was doing and had no patience. The Dodgers may win this pathetic division...but they will be swept in 3 by whoever they play..and no one in LA will care. I like the deal for the Pirates...although it will take a lot more than LaRoche to turn them around, it was a good start. Thank you for not hiring Jack Z last year. Decent deal for the Sox too...they basically get younger Manny-like stats without the 'tude.
  5. Was he frustrated he couldn't even hit the Cub when he was trying? Once again Gagne struggles with locating his fastball.
  6. Heres the thing though. The Brewers are good right now and have no problem selling their own tickets. But when they aren't good they rely on this series being sold out by Cubs fans. The have a times advertised in Chicago to buy tix to this game, I hear what you are saying banana, but the team has to be able to forecast demand. After what happened last year, they should know the Cubs (& Twins to a degree) will be very hot tickets. MLB has a deal with StubHub, so they can easily see what's going on there. If things get ugly again, fine...sell the single tickets to the Cubs fans. Right now they need to strike while it's hot. Nothing less than a 20 pack should get you a ticket to a Cubs game. If Brewers fans can flip them to Cubs fans and pay for their pack, fine...but at least they have to buy the full pack which increases revenues for the team.
  7. Could not agree more. The team lost their composure just like they did in the Cardinals series last year. When times get tough and they need some real leadership, like Ned has actually shown at times this year, he completely lets them down. I think I'm more disgusted with how they went out at the end versus losing the 4 games. Truly pathetic performance by players and manager alike.
  8. It sure was nice last year when they actually had to use Eyre before the game was over.
  9. I vote classless. While I appreciate they are showing their fire and emotion...they are also demonstrating their youth, inexperience and a lack of composure. The very things that have cost them time and again in this series. That just doesn't speak well of this team's leadership.
  10. If your friends can buy seasons and turn a profit that's fine. It is however, the Brewers responsibility to maximize revenues. They either need to jack up the prices or at a minimum, only include those high demand games as part of larger packages. The Cubs fans are coming no matter what...let's just make them pay up for it. More revenues = better players. They could also just take those single game tickets out of circulation and sell them directly on StubHub...the Cubs aren't above doing that...we shouldn't be either.
  11. What happened with Gagne'? Were they trying to hit 'em? So Yost burns another arm heading into the weekend to prove his manliness after the team got their butts kicked. This whole baseball machismo thing is pathetic.
  12. This reminds me of the Rockies series last year...I just didn't think it could get any worse during the series...yet it did.
  13. Durham probably can't play today...TH mentioned in a blog the other day that Bochy felt he was at his best not playing everyday. He's been out there 2 days in a row, plus he got hurt a little Tuesday. It's also a day game following a night game. The only other option would be starting 3TO at 3rd and moving Counsell to 2nd. It's funny, I was just talking to someone about switching Fielder & Braun around. That 9th inning garbage HR was the first decent pitch Fielder has seen since San Fran. Hart hasn't been protecting him. Maybe against RH pitchers, they should move Braun back to protect Fielder and keep it the other way versus lefties.
  14. He might hit a few more if Hart wasn't 0 for July and forced pitchers to actually pitch to Prince. The big lovable veggie hasn't seen a strike since his wife traded in his grill for a bushel of soybeans.
  15. I'd still rather have something done to the people who sold those seats. They should just do what the Cubs do and sell the seats on StubHub. If these Cubs fans are going to come up...let's not let 'em in on the cheap. Some extra revenue = better players.
  16. On the bright side...we've now scored in two consecutive innings!!!
  17. Best way to beat Dempster is plate discipline...something we have absoleutely none of.
  18. Fielder hasn't seen a strike in weeks. Hart needs to heat up and protect him.
  19. C'mon folks, Kendall has been a rock all year. We're just snake bit right now.
  20. I'm not so sure Weeks is really getting benched for that play. Durham is one of the only guys we have that has hit Dempster. Despite TH's rant, Rickie has been picking it up a little more at the plate lately.
  21. During the lower attendance years, it's probably been a nice boost to get the Cubs fans up to Miller Park. The more revenue the better. Now that the Brewers are drawing, Cubs tickets should not be made available unless you buy a 20 game pack or Season Tickets. If the season holders sell them, fine...nothing you can do about that, but allowing Cubs fans to get in on the cheap through a single game ticket shouldn't happen. Make them pay up...the more revenue the better. Last year I went to the UNLV/Wisconsin game in Vegas. There were basically two choices - scalp or buy season tickets, which wound up being about the same price. My friends and me getting forced to buy 8 season tickets for UNLV and I gave away the rest of the tickets. When we go back there in 2010, te facilities are likely to be a little nicer thanks to the Badger fans. We should do the same with the Cubs. Another 100,000 total tickets through package at $40 is $4mm...that might come in handy at the trading deadline next year!!!
  22. Braun's stats are held back a little by a slow start...much like the Brewers had. If he plays like this the rest of the year and the Brewers make the playoffs, he will garner serious attention. If there is a void in the "obvious catalyst of a playoff team" category (of which Braun is up there), it will probably default to "best stats"...at this point that's Berkman...maybe Chipper if he gets back soon.
