  1. This is some serious bad luck...first hit was broken bat blooper, Votto a single that turns into more since the OF were playing way back...then a check swing hit...unreal.
  2. Yuni is more durable...it's tough to get hurt when the most energy he expends is walking back to the dugout after a first pitch pop-up or moving 2 steps to his left for a grounder that is headed for the outfield.
  3. Is he a HoF like Molitor? No, but the offense seems to go with how he is playing hence my comparison. As pointed out before, yes he was raking in Spring Training. I also struggle with this, but still think he's hurt a little. At the end of last year he couldn't hit the outside pitch but if you put one in his wheelhouse he could pull it. In spring training he may have been facing easier pitching and had more chances to pull things. Now that guys are working him with more breaking stuff, he seems to be off. Just a theory, but I don't think he's completely healthy.
  4. There is no way you bench Rickie. This team has no shot without him. The guy is an all-star and his upside is way above any of the other options. For better or worse, he's Ignitor 2.0. Do you give him a couple days off? Maybe. To me he still seems hurt from last year. It took him awhile to get going when he had the wrist sheath issue too...maybe it's the same with the ankle. If they weren't in the playoff hunt he probably would have sat out the rest of the year last year and been better off this year.
  5. It's one thing to take a picture and post it of the player...another when he's with his family, especially his children. That's a little invasive for my tastes.
  6. They are in a real tough spot right now. You would think the pitching gets in a groove at some point. The staff is too good to wind up 16th in ERA. They still seem like a top 5-6 staff. That and a top 5-6 offense with with improved defense should have been good enough for the playoffs. Slide the offense and the D with the lack of depth and no real room on payroll or any minor league pieces they would want to trade and I'm not sure what they do. My guess is don't break the bank on deal and keep chugging...hope the pitching improves enough to make a run...if not, they probably start to think about trading a couple pieces to see what they can set up for next year...and keep begging Zack to come back. Tough spot...they had a decent plan and went for it, just needed the health to hang in there a little more. I feel bad for Gonzalez...by all accounts he seemed to be just what the doctor ordered at short...a reasonable cost option with a stellar glove and a little pop.
  7. Nice. My brain was thinking about something like this; kudos to yours for being able to form it into a slick joke. If we were really thinking we could have lobbied for Kosuke Inaji to coach third. I feel inadequate that I had to google his name.
  8. Lose to Suppan, beat Lincecum without Braun...baseball is so predictable.
  9. They mentioned they like Gomez out in that big CF...ok I get that, but why not bat him 8th?
  10. The Milken Conference was held here in town the last few days. The conference is put on by the think tank and features thought leaders from various industries. Mark Attanasio was on a panel hosted by Jim Gray discussing the sports business. Mark has always impressed me as a thoughtful guy and certainly was here. He does have to split time with the others so unfortunately it's not all him. There is a discussion on TV rights, small & large markets, the value of MLBAM (Mark mentioned it could be worth $7B...his share would be about what they paid for the Brewers), general economics including labor, the NFL in LA and a fair amount of history (including a facinating story about the St. Louis Spirits). More for the sports business geeks among us...not much on the current Brewers themselves. Aside from being local, Mark used to work with Mike Milken at Drexel back in the day, which probably led to his connection with the institute. I think he's also close with Gray who followed him around during last year's playoff run. http://www.milkeninstitute.org/events/gcprogram.taf?function=detail&EvID=3191&eventid=GC12
  11. The Gorman trade...Molitor signs with Blue Jays...the last 24 hours...please tell me this is the bottom. I can only imagine the hurt Yuni, Ned and the Royals will put on us in interleague.
  12. This Pads lineup is a Yuni B away from paradise. Please quit confusing my delusion and irrational fan-ness with rational, well reasoned thoughts. Nothing less than 4 HRs, including an inside the park homer following an awkward Kotsay dive in LF will begin to wipe away the stench of last night's loss...or game 4 against the Phillies. (Nothing personal to Soup or Kotsay, this is just business). Only then will I be able to cancel my shrink appointment for tomorrow.
  13. I have a problem with the word "stole". Suppan didn't force the Brewers into making that offer, in fact they wined & dined him to get him to accept. There were other likely bidders not far behind them. They made a deal based on the market rates at that time. Suppan by all accounts gave a full effort, but didn't live up to the value of the contract. Just because a business deal doesn't work doesn't mean he stole anything, which implies some type of malicious behavior or criminal intent. If you are looking to blame something, look to the structure of MLB or the Brewers themselves.
  14. Gotta hand it to Suppan...the guy has made all the bank he'll ever need, yet he's still banging it out in the minors. Now he gets another shot in the bigs. He still stinks, but he's a decent enough guy and sure is resilient. That said, we need to beat this guy into a pulp...Braun needs 4 Homers in the first inning.
