  1. Not that they are playing that well, but man they just can't buy a break. A strikeout scores the run...go figure.
  2. I'm not a big baseball machismo guy, but someone who hangs that far over the plate needs to wear one in the ribs.
  3. It wasn't always pretty, but a quality start for Bush. Could have gotten a little more help behind him and maybe he goes 7. For a creature of routine, going a day early didn't seem to hurt him. I love Rickie and am a total Weeks apologist, but boy does he need a day off.
  4. Nice post endaround...considering Zaun's 0 for 20+ start, those numbers are solid. I mentioned in the IGT at some point a week or so ago he had passed Kendall in OPS...not that it's a high hurdle, but Kendall's start had a few pining for his slappy grit. Zaun has been an upgrade and will have Kendall by 100+ on OPS by year end. Kottaras is a nice upgrade over Rivera as well, although his defense makes me nervous.
  5. Last year our pitching started out fairly well, but looked bad under the surface. By June the wheels started to fall off. The Bush injury played a key roll, but they really weren't that good before that. This year it looks bad, but I don't think they are as bad as they've shown. Not great by any means, but I'd be surprised if their ERA wasn't below last years level by seasons end. That should be a fairly low bar to get over. Think Davis v. Looper. Basically the same spot in the rotation. Looper was horrible last year, yet got lucky he won as many games as he did. Davis is not great by any means, but I can't believe a BABIP of .415 is sustainable. Narveson is a big improvement over Mike Burns too. I just can't believe our bullpen is really this bad. There are some decent arms out there and some options at AAA. All it would take are a few quality starts and thinks will look a little better. Maybe not a playoff team, but better. There's a winning streak out there somewhere.
  6. In watching Narveson, he's been very solid but seems to tire around 80 pitches. I'm sure he can get deeper into games over time. Today seems quite ridiculous. I know Macha is worried about the pen, but we did just have a day off and it was a one run game. Why not throw Trevor out there...at least he's fresh! Just don't get it.
  7. Holy pitch count batman...for those of us on gameday, anyone warming up?
  8. I don't see big changes happening anytime soon. They will likely give it some time this season to see if they can make a run and get back in the race which is very possible. The only near term options they have are in the bullpen where there is some talent at AAA. They probably keep Soup another month or so to sop up blowout innings and provide rotation insurance. At some point the bullpen is overworked to the point where it makes sense to clear the spot for another reliever like Hawkins coming back or Braddock. I'd probably throw Parra into the rotation at some point. I'm one of those who rightly or wrongly view him as mentally soft, but you can't teach a 95 MPH fastball. We need to know if he can do it or not...only one way to find out. Out of desperation, I might be willing to roll the dice on his upside. Macha? Just doesn't matter IMO. I have no way of evaluating if he's the problem or not. He's probably not the problem, but doesn't add much either. Biggest decision they have is sign, trade or hold Prince. If we are out of it and they determine the bid/ask is too wide on re-signing him, it probably makes sense to shop him. This is likely an off-season issue and I doubt they'd want a public situation like Halladay was last year. That wouldn't help ticket sales, and for a franchise that needs the revenues for salaries, maybe that makes sense. If we are out of it July 1, I hear what everyone else says about trading or dumping this guy or that guy...my own target would be Corey Hart (for that price he is replaceable), but these guys have little value. If that changes, by all means DM should move a guy that won't be of value next year, but right now I just don't see it.
  9. per Tyler Barnes twitter... http://twitter.com/Brewercom Guess our bullpen is in worse shape than our outfield...can't argue with that.
  10. What the heck, I'll give the boys credit...they really did remind me of those Brewers of the 70s tonight...early 70s that is. Yet they are lacking that endearing Bob Colluccio quality. Thank you Fox, MLB and your silly blackout rules for saving me from a day of aggravation tomorrow. Hang in there Brewers fans, there's a winning streak out there somewhere.
  11. As someone who thought Diego should be in CF ahead of Gerut, I just want to admit to you all that I was wrong. Man he looks bad out there.
  12. Meltdown Manny strikes again. Million dollar arm and a ten cent head.
  13. Per JSOnline... BREWERS 2B Weeks RF Hart LF Braun 1B Fielder 3B McGehee CF Edmonds SS Escobar C Kottaras LHP Wolf PHILLIES CF Victorino 3B Polanco 2B Utley 1B Howard RF Werth LF Ibanez SS Valdez C Hoover LHP Moyer
  14. I'd rather see him bunt Rickie over than strike out on pitches a foot outside the zone.
  15. Last time they had a day off, they rattled off 5 of 6...let's hope they get the same mo from yesterday. I know I certainly needed the day off.
  16. I hear he's being paid completely with Starbucks Gift Cards. I wish I owned that Starbucks at Hwy 40 & Blue Ridge Road...according to the Starbucks website, that's the closest one to the stadium. I hope they know enough to staff up for the onslaught.
  17. Sheets was healthy when he made the trade. He started the All-Star game a week or so later.
  18. I hear Dave Kerwin will be joining as the new pitching coach.
  19. It's like being at a movie theater and the people next to you are carrying on a side conversation the whole time. First laugh I've had all night. I'd love for someone to pipe up and admit, you umps are humans try your best, but make mistakes. You also tend to have big egos and carry grudges and baseball would be far better off with robots. Maybe someday Brain and Bill will have Fox Trax in the booth...they have more credibility.
  20. C'mon Froemming...I've been listening to you babble all night...step up and admit that ump was out of position, even if he did get the call right. OK, I'm getting salty.
  21. Weird game. Hudson has been vulnerable, yet we can't take advantage. Bush seemed shaky, yet many of the balls hit off him were dribblers. Microcosm of the season...I just can't figure it out.
  22. With the day off on Thursday, sounds like we won't see him until the weekend at the earliest.
