I'll echo what many others feel. Putting Parra into the deal just creates more holes. If it takes an Escobar to do it, it's a tough pill to swallow, but I'd rather go for it. I'd package a deal around Escobar & Lawrie. If the price gets too high, I hope DM just walks away, but having Halladay through 2010 (if that can be assured) and with Yo in a playoff series if we can get there is awfully compelling. If we don't go down the Halladay route, acquiring another pitcher still makes some sense. I'm not sure I'd deal any of the top guys to do it, but that 5th starter spot is a black hole. Unless Burns is out there against a glorified AAA team like the Mets without all of their players, they are basically waving the white flag. We are also seeing the impact on the bullpen that is awfully taxed. If the deal isn't there now it should be for Hardy/Hart in the offseason. When the team was on their hot streak, all it took was some quality starts. I know it's not the best metric, but for this team it makes some sense. Just keep them in the game through six, and they'll usually get the runs. The bullpen was in much better shape too.

I'll give the Pirates fans credit. If they are actually making the effort to follow that team right now, at least they are a true fan. A little myopic and delusional maybe, but it's a pretty hopeless cause over there right now. -

I get less excited about this trade if Parra is included. We would still be stuck trotting Burns out there every 5 days and who knows what happens with Bushie. We'd also need some assurance he'd stick around for 2010. I'm still not convinced this team is solid enough to mortgage the future for a CC-like rental. I have no problem moving Lawrie. If we can get the Canadian premium for him, terrific. He's starting to get a bad rep for his attitude. Hopefully he's just young. Escobar would be tough, but he's probably the guy would would have to go. At least we have JJ for one more year. What I do get excited about is not only a team that could win this crummy division, but putting Yo & Halladay out there in a playoff series may actually give them a chance. At this point even if they won the division, it's tough to imagine them getting by both the Phils & Dodgers. The window is also open to 2011. Even though Braun will be here for a long time, I shudder to think what this offense looks like without Prince.

I wonder if there is some underlying tension between LaRussa & the front office in the post-Jocketty era. One minute LaRussa and his drunken arrogance is defending the pitching coach's kid like a little league coach that constantly plays his kid at shortstop even if he's a mediocre player, the next minute the kid's got a one way ticket to PinchHitterVille. Very odd. I wonder if LaRussa's act is getting old in St. Louis. Duncan & LaRoche all in one day?

McClung has been a disaster since he made those starts. We may have found Braun in Pittsburgh, but McClung is still MIA.

If I ever get sick, I'm either going to Nashville or Pittsburgh. They seem to be the elixirs for us Milwaukee folk.

Nice rant TH. The difference is the umpires have a union, the players have a union and the coaches don't. The umpires union should be de-certified, they should all be canned and allowed to reapply for their jobs or even better, replaced with computers. Umpires are an overpaid relic of the game that just shouldn't exist.

I'm officially raising Kendall's OPS by 50 pts in my own mind after last night. I don't know what he was saying, but Karstens looked terrified. They didn't retaliate in Milwaukee because both benches were warned after Karstens hit Braun and the next night Bush's pitches were 3 misplaced curve balls that grazed some uniforms. If they want to know what a purpose pitch is, look at last nights game, heed the message and take your base like a man. "Dave Kurwin"...now that's hilarious.

It may not take that much in this division. With Bush out we are almost raising the white flag every 5th game. However if Bush gets back and Parra can continue his string, Davis is really not much of an upgrade. I would think our willingness to do a Davis trade would go down over time if Bush pans out.

Lopez on base 5 times, Villy looked better, nailing Karstens needed to be done...Kendall was awesome, Braun finally drove a ball and perhaps most importantly...Augie is back on Brewers Live!!! Good things are going to happen!!!
