  1. If we were stealing while up like 7 or 8 runs it might make some sense but 5 runs really isn't enough to get mad about. Teams put up 5 run innings way too often to slow down in today's game.
  2. I'd be really surprised if Lucroy isn't instantly the starter as soon as he is back, he has a lot more upside than anyone else. Then again I'd be surprised if Kotsay made the team and got a lot of PA and that seems to be happening.
  3. Parra can only really replace one of the lefties or maybe Mitre as the long man, he doesn't make any sense to be replacing the other righties. So I'd think either Braddock or Stetter goes down. Hawkins kind of scares me because I'm not sure he is going to be better than the player he ends up replacing. Also keep in mind we are carrying an extra RP right now I believe? So another bullpen arm will be lost at some point as well.
  4. McGehee is definitely the right move to make, he has a good 2 out approach and is the best hitter that was on the bench. I was at the game and it seemed to be more Brewer fans than Cubs fans today though the Cub's fans dominated the lower level expensive seats.
  5. I'm not saying he will become a reliever because of how he pitches, he might become one because he hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy as a starter. That is generally what happens to starters who can't seem to stay healthy. The team would like him to become an option I'm sure, just like they were hoping Peralta would step up and claim the 5th starter role but it didn't happen. Peralta struggled and Rogers got hurt, there is no proof he would have been the 5th starter if healthy, he would have had to earn it. This is the quote I responded to. ] To answer it a different way that doesn't get people into a big huff I don't think there are any plans to move him up to the majors right now unless there are injuries and he pitches well in the minors first.
  6. Right now I don't think management is even vaguely considering bringing Rogers up. He would have to pitch his way into the picture this season in the minors and there are other pitchers who could be brought up before him pretty easily like Peralta. They certainly aren't going to rush to get him on the major league roster as soon as he is healthy and I highly doubt they are counting on him for major league innings right now. I think his most likely path to the majors is the team giving up on him as a starter because they don't think he can stay healthy and finding his way into the bullpen due to injuries. I don't find it absurd at all.
  7. Stuff is usually movement and velocity. Narveson lives off of location so if his location is off he is very hittable. When say Tim Lincecum's location is off he still gets a lot of swings and misses. So yeah I need to see how Narveson pitches in games where he just can't find his location, will he figure out ways to minimize the damage or will he have disaster starts like he had last year.
  8. Rodgers isn't even on the major league radar imo. When you walk almost 6 guys per 9 innings in the minors it shows you are not anywhere close to ready to pitch in the majors. He is a guy we bring up if we fall out of contention just to see what he has.
  9. It wouldn't surprise me if he had a good year but I need to see how he pitches when his location is off since he doesn't have great stuff to fall back on. Last year he had really good stretches and really bad stretches.
  10. It is only 2 games for Wolf and 1 game for Estrada, there is no reason to expect Estrada to out pitch Wolf at this point.
  11. Narveson vs Garza is not a huge mismatch and we have home field advantage which should offset it. Tonight was the game I figured we'd lose, tomorrow is the one that I figure will decide the series, if we lose Sunday it is just painful but we have a huge advantage that day.
  12. Wait till we play the Twins. Its worse against them. With that being said, our bullpen and defense will really cost this team some games this year. (Not like that's breaking news or anything) Our Bullpen has been just fine when used properly on the season. It will also get some help when our 2 bullpen arms on the DL come back as well as when our 2 offensive starters and our 2nd or 1st best pitcher returns. We have to keep in mind our team is playing at about 75% personnel wise right now so as long as we can stick around .500 it is a good thing. Hopefully we take the next 2 and reach that .500.
  13. Baker mashes lefties and is useless vs RHP so that is a very valid question danzig. I really don't want to watch Marmol throw 20 balls called for strikes to shut us down tonight. I swear with a computerized strike zone he'd walk every hitter he faces but the movement is so extreme he confuses the umpires and they figure a few of them must be strikes.
  14. 6 IP, 2 ER, quality start for Wolf! In all seriousness, Wolf throws as hard as Marcum or Narveson and as a LHP his velocity isn't even all that low, it is more about location than velocity with his problems.
  15. Wow, Betancourt got out so fast I thought they had pulled Zambrano and didn't realize it was 3 outs at first, heh.
  16. His velocity picks up as it heats up but he has never thrown 95 on a regular basis. He has always lived in the 92-93 range just with a lot of movement. As for Wolf, he did more or less what we paid him for overall last year and it is 2 games into this season. Seems a bit premature to compare him to Suppan, his deal was also a lot more reasonable than Suppan's was.
  17. We haven't had a winning season against the Cubs since 2005, this would be a good year to start.
  18. I think people used to play through these small injuries a lot more since they weren't such an investment for the team. There are also more games, more teams and more players. The players are bigger, faster, throw harder and the game is played faster on the field just like every other sport. More injuries are always going to result from this.
  19. You also cant' stress enough how terrible Kotsay is in the field at this point. He has to greatly outproduce a random player offensively because he is such a huge liability defensively. Kotsay should not be more than a PH vs right handed pitching and that doesn't really hold enough value to make a roster.
  20. To be fair he is a very significant downgrade defensively. No reason to not expect more out of Hart than Gomez but the gap between Hart and Morgan isn't all that huge and it wouldn't surprise me if Morgan is better than Hart vs RHP.
  21. I would add that my opinion of this being an ok idea has nothing to do with Estrada. I am not very impressed by him and don't expect him to stick as a major league pitcher. The situation our rotation is in at the moment makes the idea have some merit though, regardless of who is filling in the innings.
  22. Considering Gallardo and Narvenson have never gone a full season in the majors and Marcum is coming off of a big IP jump last year following his injury this wouldn't really bother me at all.
  23. Hart's appendix burst, they aren't the same thing as all. Other players including Harang and Izturis missed a month when their appendix burst as well. The oblique is the type of injury that can take 3 weeks or it can take a lot longer, just depends on how severe it is.
  24. Parra cannot control his pitches, there is absolutely no proof it is just mental but even if it is the results are the same. His fastball is also very flat so it is easy to hit so his other pitches have to be working or he will get hit hard because if they can sit fastball he is in trouble. Guys with great stuff fail all the time in major league baseball because stuff alone isn't enough. You can talk about stuff all you want but when you throw a flat fastball to a major league hitter it better be 100 MPH or it is going to get hit hard a lot. Changing his delivery would probably help him more than any mental adjustment. The only thing confidence is going to do with him is allow him to use his other pitches in more counts so he can throw his below average fastball less often.
