  1. Loe never should have been in the game in the first place. Bringing him in when Votto and Bruce are both due up to hit is a pretty large mistake and it is one that cost us a run.
  2. No, I think on the replay it looked like McGehee just did not get the tag on. Really bad mistake. The runner may have been out of the base path, it was really close. But McGehee did not get the tag on him.
  3. I didn't notice that Braun looked bigger even, so I think saying he doesn't look like the same guy is stretching it.
  4. Bad call for sure but most OF don't have to dive to make the catch and the call isn't missed. So far Kotsay hasn't been able to catch up to medium speed fastballs, has grounded out weakly and has shown he has next to no range. I sure hope they figure out he isn't going to be worth it sooner rather than later.
  5. We traded for Morgan all of 3 days ago, no reason to think that Kotsay was set in stone at that point. Morgan has a .361 OBP vs RHP in his career and is probably the best fielder on the team, he should be out there every day he can against RHP.
  6. Don't forget Kotsay who is actually a downgrade from Hart defensively. I'm just baffled that Kotsay made the roster much less is seeing the field.
  7. After seeing the lineup we decided to go with and the fact McGehee is hobbling around some still and Fielder usually starts a little slow I'll go 0-1. It is up to Gallardo, Weeks and Braun to win it.
  8. No, but if they started Kotteras and Morgan it would be an upgraded and if they had obtained any warm body to play SS it would look better too. This is fixable within the organization but bad choices like Reed, Kotsay, Nieves, Betancourt etc are going to sabotage the roster in April.
  9. We moved in 97 to make room for them in 98 so yeah that is correct. I was thinking we moved to the NL in the 94 realignment for some reason.
  10. Unfortunately the expansion teams were added after we made the mistake of moving to the NL. Given the structure at the time it was obvious to add the East coast team to the AL East, bit confused by that part.
  11. Wilton Lopez will be the Astros closer at the end of the season.
  12. His power is never going to drop to the point where this is a serious concern until later in his career and his K/BB improved as the year went on last year so it doesn't seem like the 'adjustment' was to start throwing him more strikes at any point. If they start to throw more strikes he'll just hit more HR and if they throw fewer strikes he'll have a higher OBP, he's going to be one of the better hitters out there no matter what. The key is to not swing at the junk, as long as he isn't swinging at junk he's going to put up elite stats because he becomes a no win situation.
  13. Pitchers didn't figure him out at all last year, he just got really pull happy and tried to hit everything out of the park the first month+ of the season. Fielder is to blame for his slump much more than pitchers were. If pitchers had figured him out he wouldn't have put up over a .900 OPS for 3 months straight after the starting slump. His K/BB is improving and that is generally a good sign not a sign of failure. Even if he generally sits at an .880 OPS the elite OBP makes him one of the best hitters in baseball since OBP is much more valuable than SLG anyway.
  14. SS is not really a shallow position in MLB, there are tons of mediocre players at the position. I'm going to say that our SS next year is Marco Scutaro with Lowrie taking over full time in Boston.
  15. Calling the Brewers a stars and scrubs team pretty much invalidated everything about that article, pretty much an absurd statement.
  16. Because on average pitchers who have thrown 200+ innings for the past 3-4 years throw under 200 innings the next year. It is extremely rare for a pitcher to go for 200+ innings even 3 years in a row much less 4 or 5.
  17. At this point in their career I'd ake him over Morneau as well, since he hasn't stayed healthy a full season in the past 3 years now. Taking him over Howard is a no brainer in my book.
  18. I think you are underrating Fielder a bit here, especially when you consider health, age etc. He'll certainly have value and I think a team like Baltimore will be a good match for him.
  19. Nobody who follows stats thinks a walk is as good as a hit, they are certainly better than an out though. Plate discipline is a skill and it is one that can be developed, there isn't really a question about this at all, it is pretty much proven fact. Sure the pitcher plays a role but that is baseball, more than one player plays a role in every single play.
  20. Nyger Morgan adds a win to the team since Reed and Kotsay are below replacement level and Morgan should be expected to be an upgrade over Gomez. In a division that should be very close this was a big move.
  21. AL East - Red Sox AL Central - White Sox AL West - A's AL Wild Card - Rays NL East - Phillies NL Central - Brewers NL West - Rockies NL Wild Card - Braves Playoffs - crapshoot but I'll pick the Red Sox to win it all over the Rockies. AL MVP - Adrian Gonzalez NL MVP - Prince Fielder AL Cy Young - Jon Lester NL Cy Young - Tommy Hanson AL Rookie of the Year - Michael Pineda NL Rookie of the Year - Dominic Brown Manager of the year is such a bogus stat I won't bother predicting it, whichever team plays over their head will win it, most likely by the manager abusing the starters and getting them hurt. Hardest pick for me was the NL Central. I think the Reds can easily win it but I think they are the ones who are going to struggle with pitching this year, just too many injury question marks and too many guys with questionable control and Arroyo is the only pitcher I think they have that ends up with a full season.
  22. Morgan's BB rate held steady, his LD% held steady, his GB% held steady and his AVG and BABIP dropped. There is no reason to think his stats last year mean more than the rest of his career. Around a .340 OBP should be the expectation. We have a major league starting quality CF as our 4th OF, this is not a bad thing. While he shouldn't really get starts in RF he is probably better than bad Corey Hart at least vs RHP so if bad Corey should show up this year he can fill in some there as well.
  23. Yeah there is no way the Cubs should be considered awful, they are just a step behind the others.
  24. Makes sense, keep the mostly useless guys like Reed and Kotsay who don't need to play full time and send down the guys you could actually start if you had to in order to keep them sharp with full time play.
