  1. Velocity tends to peak around age 20 so it wouldn't be surprising if he lost a little. Velocity is also down a little bit in April for a lot of pitchers in general. I wouldn't be too worried about it.
  2. 134 games is about standard for a rookie player, they should pretty much never play every day unless you are in the middle of a title race. 552 PA is plenty for a rookie player. I had a lot of issues with Macha but not playing Escobar enough certainly wasn't one of them.
  3. MLB network would be so much better if they got rid of Reynolds or at least toned down his impact on the shows. Mitch Williams really needs to go though, he is cringe worthy when he talks about baseball.
  4. http://www.baseball-refer...ituational-batting.shtml Don't have time to look at it right now but that link should get you started.
  5. I can see both sides of it. There is no good reason they have to drink in the clubhouse, it is technically their place of employment and very few jobs let you drink in the building even if you are 'off the clock'. On the other hand the realities of their job makes the clubhouse a little bit like their home so they should have a good bit of freedom in it.
  6. Wouldn't surprise me. They almost banned it in 2007 when John Hancock died in a car accident so seeing another player die in an alcohol related situation could easily make them ban it.
  7. On a completely unrelated topic, I started a baseball Mogul 12 season today and in game 1 Arroyo shut us down with 1 hit through 8 and then Fielder took him deep in the 9th to tie the game. Kotteras hit the go ahead HR in the 10th and Axford came in for the bottom of the 10th and gave up a single to Phillips and a double to Hernandez but Phillips couldn't score and then he struck out the last 2 to shut it down. Just funny how exactly opposite that game was from reality!
  8. He hit over .300 with a .791 OPS after coming back from his injury last year. Even in his off years his defense is good enough to give him positive value. Hardy most certainly has trade value.
  9. Gomez is equally terrible against both types of pitchers, Morgan is ok against RHP and terrible against LHP. Seems like a natural platoon to me.
  10. We won't be better without Fielder but as long as we are smart about replacing him and don't go with someone like Kotsay to fill the role we should be competitive next year even after he is gone.
  11. "You don't go 'all in' by getting a couple of stud pitchers and then surround them with a half a lineup worth of absolute crap." You don't go all in by trading for two year contracts either, there is nothing all in about the Brewers. But yeah, this was all so obvious before the season that it upsets me a bit that they didn't figure this out. The best roster we can field doesn't include Kotsay on it at all and most likely doesn't include Betancourt either. Hopefully the Mariners start off slow and we can trade some peanuts for Jack Wilson or something.
  12. I wouldn't believe a thing you hear about trades in the media because we never get the full picture. It is like the people who believe we pushed Cruz for Mench even though there is really no proof of it. Even when the GM comes out and says something half the time it isn't really the truth, it is just to appease the fans like I imagine the Betancourt thing was.
  13. Completely agree. I think it matters a lot. Case in point is Fielder getting walked a lot. Last year McGehee made pitchers pay a lot, so the intentional walks lessened some, but this year it seems to be starting again. It's a lot about who is behind you in most situations. I agree that early in games it isn't that big of a deal, but as the game goes on it really matters.Fielder was IBB more in the 2nd half than the 1st, this really played no role in it.
  14. When you stick 5 guys in the lineup with a sub .300 OBP quality bats (pitcher, Gomez, Kotsay, Nieves, Betancourt) it is really hard to score runs. Today is a little better since they started Morgan but the offense is ugly in exactly the way it was expected to be. Until Fielder starts to hit we have 3 players carrying the entire offense.
  15. Fans have every right to boo, just like they have ever right to do all kinds of other things that show a complete lack of class. Showing class has nothing to do with right or wrong.
  16. I like that he put in a lot of work and I honestly think his approach at the plate has been different, however his pitch recognition is still terrible and it is going to limit any success he has. He needs to be put down in the order especially when you have Morgan against a RHP which really does fit in the 2 hole.
  17. The phrase predates Dodgeball by at least 15 years since I had heard it before college.
  18. It doesn't take 95 win talent to be the best team in the NL Central. We aren't going all in this year, that is just dumb stuff the media spits out every day, we don't lose anyone but Fielder next year so these trades weren't just about 2010. I agree the East gets the wild card. There was no reason to expect more than a 1-2 record this series so we are 1 game off of expectations now, it really is no big deal. We need to fix these terrible roster choices though, Kotsay and Betancourt and Gomez really make it harder to win.
  19. The unfortunate thing is we face an even better team in the next series. Won't surprise me to see us start 1-6 on the year. I expected us to go 1-2 against the Reds on the road so the 1st game being blown is the only thing stopping us from playing to expectation but this certainly has been painful.
  20. I wasn't joking when I said Betancourt is the worst full time player in baseball, any random AAA SS is better than him. He has put up -1 WAR over the past 3 seasons combined and is trending down not up. Once Hart and Lucroy are back and Morgan takes at least half the bats away from Gomez the lineup will look a lot better. Then I imagine we get a glove who can't hit to play SS at some point and then the roster finally looks good.
  21. Letting Stetter pitcher there was pretty much giving up on the game.
  22. Brandon Phillips has to be the one of the most annoying players in the league, if he is saying something bad about Edmonds my opinion of him goes up.
  23. Well Marcum was getting pinched in the first couple innings. I'm not going to read too much into it.
  24. Travis Wood is likely the Reds best pitcher, so this is going to be a tough game in general.
  25. I'd agree if not for the 12 games against Phi, Cin and Atl who are all probably better teams atm.
