  1. But that was by far the worst year of Abreu's career and is most likely an outlier,he is probably closer to 10-15 runs below average.
  2. At this point Griffey is one of the worst defensive OF in baseball so I don't buy this at all. I do agree that I'm worried about Hart but Griffey is pretty close to a replacement level player at this point.
  3. For what it is worth BPro's depth charts came out today and the Brewers came out as 2nd place in the NL Central with 83 wins. 823 RS and 807 RA. If Looper saves them 11 runs it likes us to have the 2nd best pitching in the central and it already has us with the 2nd best offense. I'd think Looper pushes us up to around 85 wins which would be 3 games off the wild card pace which isn't too bad. 3 games is easily made up with a breakout, more health than expected, luck in 1 run games etc. It has the Cubs with 96 wins, Cards with 80, Reds with 79, Astros 67 and Pirates 65. Seems about right to me though I could see the Cards not winning that much with the weak backend to their rotation.
  4. Well Hamilton had a .779 OPS on the road lasat year and his home stats were partially driven by a .357 BABIP. There is a chance Hamilton already had the best year of his career.
  5. I sure hope that's far from the case. These players cheated to gain an advantage and better themselves. Without steroids, does Bonds break Hank's record? They cheated, plain and simple. It's not as easy as saying, well, these other guys did it, and this guy was better. Cheating is cheating. He very well may have hit more HRs without steriods since he would have faced weaker pitching too. It is all conjecture in the first place. Not to mention I'll throw out the fact that steroids have been around longer than Hank Aaron has so there is no way to even know if your 'old time' greats were clean or not.
  6. In Suppan's first 60 starts as a Brewer he put up a 4.56 ERA. The last 5 starts somehow have people thinking he is just terrible.
  7. I would tend to agree. Gallardo between 3.25 and 3.75. Parra between 3.75 and 4.25. Bush between 4.25 and 4.75 Looper between 4.35 and 4.85 Suppan between 4.65 and 5.15 McClung between 4.90 and 5.40 Those are probably the ranges I'd expect pitchers to end up in this year as a full time starter. If they all hit the wrong end we have a below average rotation but not massively below average. They all hit the top end and we have a good rotation. They all hit the middle and we are average to above average.
  8. Dave Bush pitches worse on the road too... I don't read much into home vs road splits. Nobody is expecting Looper to be an ace, he just keeps McClung who very likely is over a 5.00 ERA starter out of the rotation and in a backup role which is a good thing. This deal is probably worth a win or two to the Brewers which very well could be the difference between the playoffs and sitting at home given how the last 2 seasons have ended.
  9. The big difference is just health. Wolf has had one healthy season since 2004 and that one he went 190 IP. In that time frame he has hit the DL 7 times with 5 elbow injuries and 1 shoulder injury and has spent 453 days on the DL. This is someone with more of a history than Ben Sheets had only without great stuff either.
  10. The two players that I think would be the biggest shock to me for steroids would be Griffey and Ripken. Thomas wouldn't really surprise me at all to be honest.
  11. If any NBA player in the world did steroids it was Jordan, that is a no brainer IMO~
  12. When you add in defense and inflation Beltre's deal really hasn't been terrible, but I understand including it with all those other terrible ones.
  13. I don't know, if wolf got that deal I'd think Looper is at least $8M and 2+ years.
  14. Melvin offered him arbitration without a physical apparently and the people on this board weren't suggesting they should sign him without testing his arm, I fail to see how this point has any validity to it. Also the article makes it sound like he could pitch but since nobody has really been interested he is going for the surgery hoping for a mid season return and a bigger contract next year, which I guess makes sense.
  15. On paper I personally think every single team in the NL Central got worse this year than they were going into last year. The Reds and Brewers are the teams that stands out as having a lot of young talent that could take them a step forward in a hurry though in our case a step forward probably will lead to a repeat of last year since we lost talent in the offseason. The Astros are an old team with no pitching, the Cubs got older, lost depth and got riskier. The Cardinals are about the same as last year. The Pirates are still a number of years away from competing.
  16. http://www.fannation.com/...ogs/hot_stove/posts/47664 Looks like he is having it. This really screws the Brewers over. First a very crappy top pick for Sabathia and now no pick for Sheets.
  17. I am posting like my opinion is fact? Again I'll link the quote I replied too. That is posting like your opinion is fact if I've ever seen it. You are saying that there is no way that Sheet's usage could have anything to do with his arm. The fact is Sheets threw more pitches than almost any pitcher in baseball in the 1st half last year after coming off of 3 partial years in a row. It makes absolutely no sense to do that, sure that might be my opinion but it is one that I'd think most people would agree with. Whether the usage actually caused his injury or not it is impossible to know but regardless of the answer to that question the way they used him last year was a mistake.
  18. You have absolutely no proof that this is a true statement. I guarantee you if I were to throw 200 IP worth of pitches over the next year I'd blow out my arm, it just is not prepared for that type of stress at all right now. When a pitcher is coming off of multiple partial seasons you don't push him, it is just stupid to do it and we decided to risk it and it blew up in our faces.
  19. Again? What am I missing. When was the last time the Brewers traded away a hitter that actually produced. Nelson Cruz is the closest but he hasn't even done it for a full season. Unless you are talking about LaPorta and that move got us into the playoffs so was probably worth it.
  20. A pitcher who can keep his walks down and induce groundballs 50% of the time will have some amount of success. He's also pitched slightly better overall against righties which is a very good thing as a LH pitcher though it might bea bit luck induced since his GB% is lower but his HR/FB is way lower. His basic skill package seems like it could work.
  21. I was a bit disappointed that when they discussed the best fielding 1B on the hot stove there was no mention of Pujols who probably is the best defensive 1B in baseball right now.
  22. The last time Abreu put up positive value as a fielder was in 2003. He had by far his worst year defensively ever last year, how much of it is getting old I don't know. His best year since 2003 was 2007 for the Yankees though so I'm not sure I buy the wall theory. Somehow I doubt adding a LH bat and making our defense worse is anything other than a wash at best. Yeah we could spend his cash on a Looper type pitcher instead but again what we gain in the rotation we'll have lost in the field as we'll be stuck with poor production from one OF spot and weaken the defense. There is no miracle solution where Cameron's money is spent elsewhere and the team is significantly better unless you take shots at risky upside types and just hope they work out.
  23. He reminds me of Brandon Phillips a bit who struggled until he was 26 before really breaking out. If Weeks just puts up the best of each of his slash stats at the same time he'd have a pretty good year. .279/.374/.433/.807. I'd take that at 2B.
