  1. I'm still watching since it is the Mets we are chasing and they seem to choke just as much as we do~. They face the Braves, the Cubs and the Marlins all teams that are probably just as good as the Mets. We just have to hope that we go on one of those good runs against bad teams we've had multiple times this season and then that the Cubs rest all their players or something.
  2. I dunno, why are they including Riske who pitched fine and then got hurt and struggled after the injury. People are just flipping out because of the collapse. There is no way they fire Melvin after the team wins 88 games or whatever we win.
  3. There is a small group of RP that basically never blow a 3 run lead, the other 80% of closers suffer one of these nasty losses 1 to 2 times a year. Sucks that we blew this game but Torres has hardly been a problem this year and anyone who is blaming Melvin or Torres or anyone else for the couple hiccups this season is just frustrated and just reaching for someone to blame. That is even more true considering we should have had 3 outs before anyone ever got on base, you want to blame someone for today blame the 3rd base coach, Hardy, Hart and Braun. They have as much or more blame than Torres does.
  4. The really sad fact is we will probably win something like 88 games and still miss the playoffs. It is always annoying to come that close and still not make it.
  5. Then again we are 6th in Sv% and 5th in OPS against. Both of those stats are more important than WHIP and blown saves imo. This is not a bad bullpen overall this year.
  6. But again our bullpen has not been bad. Here are our NL ranks. 6th in Sv%, 5th in OPS against, 4th in ERA, 2nd in saves, 6th in WPA. We have an above average bullpen this year for all the complaints so if you want Melvin fired because the bullpen sucks at least look at how the bullpen has actually done first. It is one of the 6 best bullpens in the NL this year, if that sucks then I guess he should be fired. Suppan has been a league average starter which means roughly $8-$10M per year, yeah it was a bit too much but not nearly enough to fire someone over. Gagne was a 1 year deal so low risk overall. Hall ended up being a bad signing but most fans on this site thought it was a good one(I wasn't one of them though). Counsell earned his money easily last year with the defense, this year not quite as much. Turnbow was a real disaster, cannot defend that one at all. Capuano and riske were fine contracts, they just got hurt. Silly to complain about injured players since it happens to every team.
  7. Our bullpen has actually been above average this year but since this seems to be vent thread 2.0 I'll let it slide. I don't see how Melvin gets replaced given the upward trend the team has shown over the past few years.
  8. That sure didn't look like a strike.
  9. Even Braun won't swing at one that high!
  10. So 2 baserunning blunders to keep it at 4 runs and a half hearted attempt to catch the 3rd out, I'd say we deserve to lose this.
  11. Well if we somehow lose this those baserunning mistakes are gonna make me cranky.
  12. Hardy bunt single... could be al ong time before we see that again.
  13. Fielder must have dropped 50 lbs or something because he is on fire.
  14. That really is an ugly pitching matchup on paper. Will just be sweeter when we win it.
  15. I doubt this decreases his value in any way unless he needs surgery. I'll say it again, it doesn't surprise me one bit that his arm is hurting him as he already had a 50 IP jump over last year. Yost should have been shutting him down at 100 pitches every game instead of pushing him an extra inning every chance he got. Same with Parra who is also hitting the wall because of the huge innings jump.
  16. Nothing has changed. I still don't want to sign him longterm, I still don't think he is all that high risk for major injury. I still think Brewer management is more to blame for the injury issues he's had than Sheets himself. Not surprising to me at all that the year he pitches way too many innings is followed by an injury, we bring him back earlier than expected and it is aggravated and then Yost pitches him 110+ pitches a game while he has arm soreness when he should have been on a pretty tight pitch limit and he has issues again.
  17. It stinks that Sheets has been hurt each of the last 3 years, I do not disagree with that in any way shape or form. I'll even agreet hat he is partially to blame because I dont' think he stays in the best of shape. However when you take that into account and realize that he is unlikely to last a full season with a heavy workload the fact that he is top 7 in all of MLB in PAP says all you need to know. Yost abused the hell out of him and the Brewers are paying for it now. Yost continually stuck him in there the extra inning or two and the team is paying for it right now. You want to blame someone for this and it squarely belongs on Yost as many have pointed out all season long.
  18. Good Lord! In one thread it is completley out of bounds to question Sheets' status as an ace, and in another said ace needs to be babied, and his workload of 190+ innings and average PC of 100, is too much, which is the fault of his manager. How do you reconcile that with the claim that he injured himself swinging the bat? Can we blame Gallardo's injury on Ned as well? Yes because criticizing a manager for overusing a pitcher who has thrown 156, 106 and 141 innnings in the past 3 years is out of bounds. The fact that Sheets is in the top 10 for pap this year shows that his manager is a moron, pure and simple. I said it multiple times with both Sheets and Parra but Yost abused them to hell for absolutely no reason (Sabathia as well for that matter) and should be lambasted for his poor management.
  19. Not too surprised, Yost abused him most of the season even though he probably should have been babied and this is what we get for it. Just glad that joke of a manager is gone. He did the same exact thing with Parra as well which is why it doesn't surprise me Parra is struggling.
  20. His BB are about the same as the first half and his k's are actually down. First half he had a .318 BABIP, second half a .265. His July and August numbers were fine but then his Sept numbers are .164/.207/.255/.461 with a .196 BABIP. A really nasty month.
  21. Weeks has a career OPS against Lefties of .824 vs a .731 vs righties. Durham has a career OPS against lefties of .798 vs a .787 vs righties. I'm not seeing why the split should be anything but Weeks vs Lefties and Durham vs righties if you are going with a strict platoon at least. Durham is hitting .321/.406/.643/1.049 so far this month so I'd have to say he is our hottest hitter right now at least, him or Fielder.
  22. Why Hart at leadoff? Our worst on-base regular getting the highest # of PA? I genuinely want to hear your reasoning here Endder. Because like others have said I think hitting leadoff gets into Weeks head. He takes too many good pitches and seems to try to force the 3-2 count. Could easily have said Cameron instead of Hart but I don't think anyone on the team makes a really good leadoff hitter. Closest we get is Weeks who apparently isn't going to play every day.
  23. I think Hart swapping with Braun makes sense. I don't think he is a bad fielder just not a very good one. I don't see a real reason to move him to 1B though.
  24. Lets look closer at those numbers for the Brewers. Fielder - -1.00. His defense has actually offset the offense. Weeks - 2.40. His defense has actually been above average this season according to those stats. Durham - 0.20 Branyan - 11.10. His injury really hurt us a lot no matter what people think of him. Hall - -6.90. One of the worst players in all of baseball this year though his defense has been decent. Kendall - 7.10. Cameron - 17.70. Kapler - 6.10. Pretty amazing for a part time role. Braun - 19.00. Above average defense too! Hardy 6.10. Surprisingly this site has him as one of the worst defensive SS in baseball, not sure how I feel about it. Counsell -2.50. His defense hasn't been nearly as good as last year. Hart - 0.30. Below average defense in RF and I completely agree. He should swap with Braun who is a better fielder already.
  25. Lets look closer at those numbers for the Brewers. http://spreadsheets.googl...y=p9BODtOllD4sXsmwK_rgHQA Braun: 19.00. Above average defense too! Cameron: 17.70. Branyan: 11.10. His injury really hurt us a lot no matter what people think of him. Though obviously he wouldnt' have kept up this pace. Kendall: 7.10. Hardy: 6.10. Surprisingly this site has him as one of the worst defensive SS in baseball, not sure how I feel about it. Kapler: 6.10. Pretty amazing for a part time role. Weeks: 2.40. Edit for clarity and to add link with more in depth numbers.
