  1. 04/12 - Today was one of the 42 considering who we were facing and that it was on the road.
  2. I didn't like that he finished the last game but I understood the reasoning. He should not come out for the 8th inning in this game, not with a 3 run lead and a relatively fresh bullpen.
  3. I swear weak hitting catchers are hitting like .750 off of this year. Gameday shows Sheets fastball at 91/92 this inning. It was a little lower in the 1st.
  4. I forgot how frustrating it was to follow a team when it is struggling.
  5. He also said that the majority of pitchers in baseball wouldn't have been able to throw a ball and it was a testament to his mechanics that he was able to throw at all which is what caused the previous problems.
  6. gameday has sheets at 89-92 which isn't abnormal at all for him in the 1st inning.
  7. This really isn't true though. He is a better fielder than he was when he came up. He still isn't a good one but he is better. His Ks were down in the 2nd half last year and have been so far this year. His BB rate is up. His power has gone up. His SB effeciency has improved. He has actually improved in every single area since 2005, but since people obsess on AVG for some reason(it is one of the least useful offensive stats) they assume he has not improved.
  8. A world series that they would have gone to with Lee anyway since it was 99% their pitching that led to it. You can make an argument they wouldn't have won it without Pods though just because he happened to have a big hit in it. To put it another way, if the Yankees trade ARod for Helms and win the world series did they win the trade? Of course not, the two events have nothing to do with each other.
  9. Santana, Perez, Maine still is as good a 123 as anyone else in the NL. I don't think they are a dominant team but the rotation should give them enough to be in the playoff hunt for sure.
  10. It is completely normal for April, lots of popouts, lots of foulballs and a lot of hard hit balls that don't leave the yard that probably would have mid season. Players take a couple weeks to get their timing down. Right now there are 30 players who have 30% or higher of their flyballs being in the infield, including guys like Mauer who are legit high average hitters. Last year the highest qualified player was Eric Byrnes at 26.7%. Second highest was Wells at 19.1, third was Weeks at 17.4.
  11. Weeks is the one that really stands out for me in that list. He is hitting the ball well, just not getting a lot of hits. If he were striking out a ton or something I could see a fan questioning it but if you have watched the games you know Weeks isn't really hitting that poorly.
  12. I think the complete opposite. Fielder will have just as high of an AVG and a higher OBP. Fielder = Ortiz, Braun = Manny.
  13. Dozens of players are having exactly the same issue as he is, it is called getting your timing down. If he didn't change anything in the offseason he'd still be slumping, people are just trying to find something to blame it on when it is just natural for a lot of guys to get off to slow starts every year.
  14. I'd be a lot more worried if he were hitting the ball hard and it just wasn't going far. But a change in diet is unlikely to have caused his timing to be off so he pulls everything foul or pops it up. That has nothing to do with muscle mass.
  15. I mentioned this in another thread but I don't have a problem with today's game at all. A little bloop single, a HR, a solid hit and then he faced Bako and Harang who he should be able to get out even if he is 'tired'.
  16. Yeah, that park is terrible for HR in cold weather.
  17. Not to nitpick, but you can probably replace Arroyo with Phillips. I looked at that list and just didn't see why Arroyo would be in there, it is like listing Suppan as part of what scares other teams when facing the Brewers. I was pretty high on the Reds and was even ready to pick them 2nd behind the Brewers but then they got Dusty Baker and I figured he'd find a way to destroy their chances.
  18. I actually disagree with this statement. Dunn had an excuse me hit, he gave up the HR. Hatteburg had a solid hit and then Bako and the Pitcher were up next. I have no issues at all with letting Villanueva face Bako and the Pitcher even though it didn't turn out well. The team looks too HR happy right now, Fielder and Braun seem to be swinging for the fences and that is the biggest worry I have. We need more OBP than last year to turn into a really elite offense instead of just a good one.
  19. Fielder isn't hitting because he isn't hitting. Has nothing to do with Braun being behind him. Braun is on pace for 54 HR and 126 RBI so hard to say it isn't working for him. Yeah a few BB would be nice but again I don't think he isn't getting them because Hall is behind him, he is just swinging at a lot of junk instead of staying patient. It is almost like we are only 9 games into the season and many players haven't hit their stride yet!
  20. I don't think either team made a statement in either series. The Reds are a legit .500 team, I think things will have to break their way to make the playoffs though. They are going to cause us problems all year because we stink against righties and that is all they have.
  21. http://www.heatermagazine.com/therundown/ That site does it, but it costs $10 for a full year. I have never used the site so don't know if it a high quality site or not.
  22. Bush is generally at his worst in the first inning and from the stretch. On paper he would make a terrible RP. In reality who knows, RP have a different approach to the game than SP, maybe that would help him.
  23. This move makes absolutely no sense to me.
  24. I dunno, I think Turnbow was much worse so there is still a decision to be made.
