  1. Outlander is the only person with a chance to nail it exactly with the rainout! We seem to be right back on target for the majority of peoples expectations.
  2. He added a pitch which is his best and most used pitch. He can't really revert back unless he stops throwing the pitch. The risk with him is more just his age, not that the past two seasons are complete flukes. (Mind you that they were in a pitchers park with a decent defense behind him so the ERA probably are slightly flukey, just not complete.)
  3. Paul Sporer is just a fantasy baseball guy but the guy he talks to for pitching mechanics for his guide is Doug Thorburn who is a former scout and coach who has written books on pitcher mechanics and their effects on pitchers arms. I think the over the top and pitching injuries depends on how your arm gets up in the air and the motion used in the elbow. That part is over my head though. Kind of like how the inverted W isn't a big deal if you have good balance but when you are say Strasburg and your mechanics and balance fall apart when your arm is tired it is a big time sign of future injury.
  4. Well I wasn't using a scientific approach or trying to sway anyone's opinion so none of that is meaningful. I was just trying to give him links to multiple people talking about his mechanics. To find those articles I did a simple google search. Gallardo's mechanics changed over the years and my guess would be it was an adjustment to the knee injury. I listen to a lot of baseball podcasts and it is a point of discussion that comes up on a regular basis when talking about pitching. Here is another link that sites the actual changed release point. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/fanblogs/120836644.html Unfortunately the graphs won't show up for me. I mean you don't want to believe me that is fine, pitching mechanics are kind of a tricky subject. I didn't realize people thought he had good mechanics because I never hear anything positive about them.
  5. They throw the ball with an over the top motion instead of using a 3/4 arm slot. They teach that in the minors. It gives the ball more downward movement and makes it look faster than it is. When you miss while pitching over the top it tends to go low or high instead of inside or outside. If you miss high you give up extra base hits, if you miss low you get a lot of swings and misses still. Warren Spahn was an over the top pitcher and he threw 5000 innings so it isn't a kiss of death for injuries or anything. It is just harder on your shoulder than throwing 3/4 or sidearm. In Gallardo's case his balance and posture are poor as well which is probably going to put him at risk for back injuries as well. Yes Gallardo's mechanics are awful. They weren't in the minors but they either adjusted them on purpose or he did it when he hurt his knee. http://disciplesofuecker.com/rounding-the-bases-the-rotation/8646 http://thecleanupspot.wordpress.com/tag/yovani-gallardo/ http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=20037 Paul Sporer who does a great starting pitcher guide gave Gallardo one of the few Fs for mechanics in the guide.
  6. Or if he could play SS. He is no worse than Weeks at 2B and Weeks is a good regular 2B~
  7. While he hasn't taken a walk yet it is nice to see that his contact rate is up and his swinging strike % is down. His out of zone swing % is down as well so he isn't swinging at as many bad pitches. He is showing at least a little bit of growth as a hitter. The big step is to lay off pitches that are strikes or balls that he knows he can't drive. That is a step he probably will never take but if he could do that he would become a good hitter instead of just an adequate one. Being aggressive is fine as long as you are hitting good hitter's pitches. Gomez is just aggressive just to be aggressive though and that isn't a good thing.
  8. I like Segura batting 2nd now that I've seen him play longer. Aoki Segura Braun Weeks Lucroy Gomez Bum 1 Bum 2 Pitcher Obviously when Hart and Ramirez come back things will move around but at that point the lineup is so deep it probably doesn't matter who bats where, we should score a lot of runs.
  9. I think the issue is more that we got 2 years of an injury prone starter instead of getting 3 or 4 years of a somewhat established upside guy. I didn't care for the Marcum deal even though I understand it. I still don't think the organization was sure Lawrie would stick at 3B, he made massive defensive improvements after we traded him. The Braun debacle at 3B probably made them quicker to dismiss him. Plus Lawrie is a complete tool and sometimes that really bothers teams.
  10. Yuni B would be a good regular SS if every pitcher were LH. He has a career .562 OPS against RHP though so he really should not be seeing regular playing time against them, especially at 1B or 3B.
  11. The Brewers team has a heavy over the top pitching philosophy. Usually this leads to high K, decent BB, high HR. Seems to be about the results we get. On the flip side it is harder on your arm so I don't expect them to age well. Gallardo has some of the worst mechanics in baseball so I really don't expect him to age well which is why I'm hoping Peralta really steps up because I don't want us to go long term with Gallardo.
  12. The worst thing that can happen in any sport is the players not even trying and that is where the NBA is now. Sadly there are talks about the NCAA lowering the shot clock to get the same boring game that we have in the NBA where nobody even tries to play defense. Instant replay is over the top in the NFL for sure but lets be honest here, if there is a problem with MLB right now for the majority of fans it is likely that the games take too long and are too slow paced. Adding instant replay to the mix probably requires fixing these things first.
  13. Probably those that never watched him. He wasn't that bad when I saw him at 2nd. Moving to an easier position made him look better. Color me shocked. His defense was purely dreadful in the minors while he was in our system and most agreed on it. You might not be shocked but people who earn a living judging this type of thing are.
  14. Sure Hall could have been traded but this was the rebuilding tons of holes in the roster Brewers. You would have been trading him just to trade him. JJ Hardy was traded because of Escobar so not sure what your point was here? Nobody thought Lawrie would stick at 2B so that one doesn't make much sense either. The fact he has been a plus defensive 3B is a shock to most scouts. Yeah the McGehee thing makes sense for sure but we traded Lawrie for a need and it was a need that McGehee probably wouldn't have fetched. Schafer is nothing more than a 4th OF so no we couldn't trade Gomez. Gomez also doesn't have much value after last year imo, last year of contract, only one good season etc. These are ok suggestions without taking into account reality but seriously other than McGehee none of these were really viable options.
  15. Lohse is a much much better pitcher than Suppan or Looper were even in their best years. I do expect his production to tail off with age but we are talking apples and oranges here when you compare these guys.
  16. Leaving Fiers in the bullpen in the majors and not using him could 'ruin' him, sending him to AAA to get his control back in a less stressful environment won't ruin him. We will need at least 6 and probably at least 7 starters so you need to get him turned around for when he is definitely needed.
  17. I like Fiers and I do think he'll be a major league pitcher but I think sending him down is the right move. He just has not had good location this year at all and he is the type that has to locate.
  18. Rogers is a hard one to judge because of all of the injuries. I didn't love the pick at the time but I think at best you can give it an incomplete grade in retrospect.
  19. If he's not hurt, I sure as heck would keep sending him out there. They've said a couple times tonight he's hurting. Does he look even remotely normal swinging the bat right now? No. I dunno but I do know he is swinging at pitches he normally does not swing at so there is no way it is just an injury.
  20. Braun is a pretty sticky situation. If he says he is healthy you have to keep sending him out there. It it as likely that he is pressing thinking he has to carry the team as that his neck is bothering him and causing him to K. He is swinging at pitches out of the zone which to me suggests it is more mental than physical.
  21. No I highly doubt it. They will turn to Burgos next and Fiers will get his confidence back in AAA. We have more depth than a lot of teams even if it is minor league depth. As much crap as RRR takes I will just point out that he has more or less done a perfect job of running the bullpen this game. This has been a rough game for the bullpen considering how things have played out but the order he has picked for the RP has been more or less perfect and he took them out at the proper times considering the game situation.
  22. Personally I can't wait until Weeks run as a Brewer is over. His defense is just so painful to watch and the offense is way too erratic.
  23. Everyone who gets drunk doesn't have a drinking problem and it is really easy to not realize how much you've drank especially if you are doing shots etc which tend to hit you hard when they do hit. I agree that driving while drunk is awful and when I go out I make it a point to not drive even if I'm just having a beer or two. But I would never suggest sending him to rehab over this unless the team has seen he is doing it constantly or something.
  24. Well the RP is because we target ERA instead of peripherals and because RP in general are just all over the place year to year unless they are elite. As for CI we have a number of future major league at least backup options, we just aren't using them. Taylor Green should be backup quality, he is hurt and we just don't use him. Hunter Morris most likely is a future starting major league 1B. Gamel is a starting 1B but has been hurt during his most important seasons and jerked around by Macha. Halton possibly is going to be a major league 1B as well. We have a ton of talent in the minors, we just don't grade well because it is league average or worse type talent instead of all star type talent.
