  1. I really enjoyed The Giver when I was a kid. I was probably more like 12 when I read it though.
  2. Wow, I was about to post this almost to the word. Love that graphic OWBC has, but for the life of me I cannot figure out weather.gov.
  3. This episode was better than the first in my opinion. "You had me at meat tornado" was golden and Rob Lowe's character looking in the mirror and telling himself to "Stop. Pooping" had me almost falling out of my chair. Really wish I hadn't seen the promo with Andy looking up Leslie's symptoms on the computer because that was classic Andy.
  4. This was like some inverse version of "Google Can't Save You #XXX".
  5. Didn't Cashman say about a week ago that they were going to keep their first round pick - saying they were willing to lose it for Cliff Lee, but no one else? So nice to see the Yankees scrambling. Looking at their projected starting rotation makes me chuckle. LINK Projected Starting Rotation 1 LHP CC Sabathia 2 [/b]RHP Phil Hughes3 RHP A.J. Burnett[/b]4 [/b]RHP Ivan Nova[/b]5[/b] RHP Sergio Mitre[/b]
  6. This is the last year I buy Thinsulate gloves. Cheap pieces of crap!
  7. Saw True Grit last night. I enjoyed it for the most part. Hailee Steinfeld and Jeff Bridges were fantastic. The dialogue was what you'd expect from a Coen brothers movie. I didn't understand the need of the ending and wished the movie had ended differently or simply 5 minutes earlier. All in all, very entertaining though.
  8. It was a boring week. I tried to paste a print screen as proof, but it wouldn't work
  9. If there was a competition for DigiSnake, I would be world champion. 1070
  10. Bumping this because the Cubs may be on the verge of aquiring Garza for 4 prospects. Adding Garza would certainly make them a lot more pesky in the NL central race. Cubs, Rays Working On Garza Trade
  11. Plus he's "been a Brewer for....2-3 weeks". I put that in quotes because he hasn't done any team activities yet. I'd let him get accustomed to his teammates and coaches, let him pitch for a month or two in Milwaukee then see where he is on an extension. It's a major life decision. Best not to rush these things.
  12. Not to get too off topic here, but if Reyes proves he's healthy and has a year like he's had in 2006-2008, he's going to break the bank. He's Carl Crawford except he's younger and plays above average defense at SS. We have two positional uncertainties right now - CF and SS. I'm more comfortable with what we have in center and if the Brewers look to make an upgrade at one of those two positions I hope it's at SS. A Counsell/Yuni platoon might be OK on paper, but there is a lot of uncertainty given Counsell's age and Yuni's inability to field or hit enough to balance out his fielding. A Renteria or Orlando Cabrera signing would look good to me.
  13. Taking Fielder and Wolf off the books could allow us to extend guys like Weeks, Greinke and Marcum. If Wolf has a nice 2011 I think he could net us a decent replacement at SS for 2012, yes.
  14. Nicely done! Where does Kevin Bacon fit in again?
  15. Damon was more or less an everyday CFer from 2003-2007 - 7th most plays by a CFer in that time span. Over that span, Damon was -10 UZR/150, 2nd worst in baseball for qualified players. LINK1 Damon had a TZ of -39 over that span - the worst in baseball for qualified players. LINK2
  16. One could argue that he never could. He'd be fine in LF, but he'd most likely be a disaster in center.
  17. That's what he said anyway. I have a hard time believing that Melvin and company looked at Betancourt and the $3M they would owe him this year and say, "we can't find better than this" on the open market. Betancourt doesn't do one thing well and he's overpaid. There are half a dozen guys out there that can at least give above average defense with the equivalent of Betancourt's bat. Melvin was probably forced to take on Betancourt, but he can't come out and say "we would have preferred to just take on Greinke, but the Royals required us to take Yuni and his contract too." That being said, I don't think there will be room in the budget for the Brewers to just pay Yuni $3M to leave and go sign another SS for $3-5M. So yes, get used to seeing Betancourt getting significant PT at SS for the time being.
  18. Have we officially heard if Betancourt's inclusion was at the request of Melvin or Moore? Or maybe the better question is, will we ever hear for sure? Melvin surely could have signed a better SS for around the $3M we owe Betancourt for 2010 so his inclusion has to be that KC wanted to dump him right, and Melvin is just really good at GM-speak?
  19. The more I look at Punto, the more I like. He's a switch hitter and looks like he plays good defense. Has a good career walk rate too.
  20. Who gave Yuni a contract extension in the first place? Yeesh
  21. 1. I don't know for sure, but I think they would round up to 8 days. 2. You enter the "daily rate" and then it takes you to another page and shows you the subtotal (the daily rate times the number of days) + "taxes and fees" and a "total charge". Then once you see the "total charge" you can decide if you want to place that bid or not. You don't get to pick from whom you are renting so you might be taking a shuttle from the airport to get your car. As far as insurance, it says right on their website: Your offer price does not include vehicle liability, collision or personal accident coverage for your rental car. You should determine if you have insurance coverage prior to pick-up. Additional insurance can be purchased at the rental counter. Not being able to choose your rental company and possibly having to take a shuttle to get your car are the things you have to give up to get a better deal. Usually the shuttles are really close to the airport anyway though.
  22. The Nats will receive RHP Henry Rodriguez and OF Corey Brown. Link Willingham swings a nice bat, but he's a stiff in the field and has some injury troubles. I'm intrigued by the players the Nats received. Rodriguez can throw in the triple digits and posts gaudy K/9 numbers, but also walked 6.6/9 in the minors. His walk rate came down in 2010 however. Brown looks like a nice player too, though a bit old for a prospect (25).
  23. I believe Garza is entering his first year of arbitration. Garza was a Super Two in 2010 so he is entering year 2 of 4 in arbitration. So he has 3 years left of team control. In 2008, Shields signed an extension that includes several club options that could keep him under contract through 2014. Not sure if anything changes with those options if he is traded. Here are the details I grabbed from Shields' player page on rotoworld. I think I might prefer Shields because the asking price will be lower and the contract he is under seems pretty reasonable to me. It all depends on what the Brewers would have to add to get one of these two. 01/23/08: Signed four-year, $11.25 million extension w/2012-14 club options. 2009: $1.5 million, 2010: $2.5 million, 2011: $4.25 million, 2012: $7 million club option w/$2 million buyout, 2013: $9 million club option w/$2 million buyout, 2014: $12 million club option w/$2 million buyout, 2015: Free Agent edit: To clear up Garza's arbitration info.
  24. My thoughts exactly. And then I check MLBTR again and....
  25. Why so down on Upton? He isn't over priced, has boatloads of potential, plays above average CF defense, and if we acquired him with with Garza we'd be instantly filling one hole without creating another one. I know he's under-acheived for two years now, but he's still a 3-4 WAR player with potential for more. He definitely has some attitude problems, but maybe a change of scenery will be good for him. He also would be great in Roenicke's "run often" philosophy. Plus I'd love to see him at the top of the order so Weeks can hit lower in the lineup. I would do a Cain/Gamel for Garza/Upton swap. No idea how this would look to the Rays though (probably would look light).
