  1. This blog entry references Dunn's interest in playing the OF as opposed to being a near full-time DH, but it doesn't say anything about his willingness to play first base. Link A quote from the blog entry:
  2. RyDogg- Have you formed an opinion on the bid vouchers? When I first looked at the site, the bid vouchers for 300 "free" vouchers seemed like the best way to start. And when you say to time an auction that ends after 2 am CST, does that mean you should try and place the first bid on a product 24 hours prior?
  3. I'm not much of a stat guy, but I like casually reading about much of the analysis discussed on this board. My question regards OBP and batting average. I have heard several times that when discussing OPS, 1 point of OBP is three times as valuable as 1 point of SLG. If this is the case, has anyone tried to determine how much value 1 point of BA has in OBP? Obviously, a hit is more valuable than a BB or HBP. How much more "valuable" is a player who hits .300/.370 than a player than hits .250/.370? I think this question came to me when I tried to understand why Adam Dunn's value seems so low for a player who posts near elite OPS #'s (and great OBP #'s) every year.
  4. The Pads would, in no way, want Fielder. Adrian Gonzalez is a great baseball player and Prince is getting more pricey every year. I would be interested to see if Peavey would have interest in coming here. Cameron and Hoffman are former teammates so it might be possible. But the Pads would want 4 solid prospects back, not a first baseman they don't need and can't afford. edit: Of course for us to be able to afford Peavey, we might have to dump Cameron's contract somewhere.
  5. This is nuts. Someone just bought a Wii for $38. I wonder how many times he/she had to bid...
  6. I would think the Brewers would wait to see how Escobar progresses in the minors this year before locking up Hardy. If Escobar's bat can come anywhere near JJ's then he becomes the bettter (financial) option at short. I'd say the Brewers are hoping Escobar is ready for 2010 and then Hardy will be moved (in a trade, or maybe position). On the other hand, locking up JJ for a reasonable 4 year contract doesn't hurt his trade value any if he continues to play like he has for the last 2 years.
  7. Did the fortune teller kill him over money? Love? Had they ever met before? Are they related? Was the victim traveling to a place where he thought he might be "saved"? Was the victim driving to get away from the fortune teller? The car was found in water....Lake water? River water? Ocean water? Other?
  8. Not exactly. The incentives start to kick in at 35 games finished. He doesn't get the full $1.5 unless he finishes 52 games which he's done only once since 2002. He's probaly a lock for $7 million which is okay, but remember this market is off from what it was last year. I like that it's only one year. I think Villanueva should be groomed to take over in 2010 by being the 8th inning guy. Ah, Thanks! That makes more sense.
  9. Interesting to see there is no option. Is there such a thing as a club/player option? Where the two sides each have an opportunity to play or pass. Also, the incentives kick in if Hoffman finishes 35 games. So, barring an injury, this is most likely a $7.5 million contract.
  10. This could be a huge steal. I don't know how serious Smoltz's injury is/was or how he is progressing.
  11. Did the fortune teller draw the map for the victim? Did the fortune teller mis-lead the victim - did he tell him to go somewhere on the map and this set him up to be killed? Did the fortune teller intend to murder the victim before they met? Or did he tell the man's fortune, and felt he had to carry out the events he foretold?
  12. Speaking of.... Anyone have any idea how much we have left to spend not including Arby raises (obviously this directly affects how much we can spend on FAs)?
  13. I checked eBay yesterday out of curiosity and home-opener tickets are priced just ridiculously (although it is early). I think $80 a ticket for terrace reserved was the cheapest I saw. Just two years ago I went with a few buddies for around $40 a piece. And those were decent outfield seats.
  14. I'm not even sure an extra million would do it. If there is an option for a 2nd year and the Dodgers are within $1-2 million I would bet he opts for the west coast. Both teams are contenders and he's got plenty of money. At this point in his career location may be the most important thing to him.
  15. Per MLBTR from the LA Times: "By signing Hoffman, the Dodgers would return Jonathan Broxton to a setup role" Link So, going to LA would allow Hoffman to close, but its unclear if the Dodgers have offered a 2nd year option (only Brown has mentioned the option). It sounds like we'd definitely have to add a 2nd year to compete for Hoffman.
  16. Was he run off the road by his murderer? Was he killed using a weapon? Was he driving to a destination on the map? Did the card have writing on it? edit, more: Was the map given to him by a loved one? Was the map directing him to a person? to an item of value?
  17. Lyon is an interesting idea as well. I would feel much better about the bullpen with Hoffman and Lyon going into the season than I did with Gagne-Turnbow heading into last season. I know Lyon wants a multi-year deal and I would assume he'd get a 2 year deal with a 3rd year option at least.
  18. What's everyone thinking money-wise here? I would think $8-10 million over 2 years should get it done
  19. Strange that Melvin is being so forthcoming with this info.
  20. Was the car at his home? Is the card: A greeting card? A business card? A playing card? Was the man murdered?
  21. Yikes. So I've got to travel through Madison from central Illinois to Wausau and I've got the option of leaving tonight around 6 or tomorrow morning around 6. When is this storm supposed to start? I'd prefer to head out tomorrow since leaving tonight won't get us there until midnight or later.
  22. Thanks everyone. I think I'll definitely go the 3 GB route. Dell has had pretty good deals for the last couple of weeks, but its hard to determine which is best and which one fits our needs. It's something we'll use A LOT so I don't want to penny pinch nor do I want to break the bank. I think our ceiling is $800, which should get us everything we want
  23. My girlfriend and I are buying a new laptop for each other for Christmas. We've narrowed it down to Dell and HP, and leaning towards Dell. Dell seems like a better deal and comes with a warranty (and a work discount!). I know very little about computers. I'm unsure what size processor to get, how much memory I need, and how much hard drive space I'll need. We won't be doing anything that taxing, so I don't think we'll need a super computer or anything. The most taxing activities we'll use it for are downloading music, watching movies, and watching the Brewers on MLB.TV. Processor: Is an Intel® Pentium Dual Core T3200 (2.0GHz/667Mhz FSB/1MB cache) sufficient or am I better off going bigger like an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5800 (2.00GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)? Memory: I'm leaning towards at least 2 or 3 GB, but have been told that 1 GB is plenty. Thoughts? Hardrive: 160 MB seems like more than enough and many come with 250 MB The last thing we are going back-and-forth on is screen size. This is probably the most important decision to make as it influences price pretty dramatically. Initially we were thinking of going with a 17 inch display. Brewer games would be much nicer on a 17 than a 15.4, but I'm not sure I want a HUGE lap top either. We won't be taking it places all that often; just when we are gone for a weekend or I'm traveling for work (2-4 nights a month in the summer). Would we regret going with a 15.4 inch, or is a 17 inch more cumbersome and chunky? Any help would be great!
  24. We should definitely trade Cameron and re-sign Kapler now to platoon with Nixon in Center. Let's see that'd be Nixon and Kapler, so they'd be called..... Nipler!
