  1. Salvador Perez signed an extension with the Royals last year when he had accumulated 0.050 service time, which is less than Segura has now. It was a five year contract with three additional club option years. I am not in favor of the Brewers exploring an extension with Segura until after this season, but at this point a buyout of his arbitration eligible years with some additional club option years would not be completely unprecedented. Wow I didn't know that. Thanks for the reference. Just FYI. Here is a link to MLBTradeRumor's Extension Database. You can sort by Service Time. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/extensiontracker
  2. I'm also "out" on Weeks. We just can't have this anymore. The money would be better spent elsewhere. We can wait for an in-house replacement all we want, but an average replacement with that money allocated towards a pitching upgrade seems like more wins to me in the future. He's just that bad right now.
  3. Well, put a check on the third factor. Although Gallardo's start tonight was still pitch-inflated I still see it as a positive sign. The ERA is starting to come down. Aramis should be back in the next few days and it'll certainly be interesting to see how they play with him back. I'm also REALISTIC (not comical) in the fact that if they are not within an acceptable range to contend for the division then they need to see what Lohse could bring them. I also don't think his contract is anything other teams would scoff at. He took a discount from his original requirements to come to Milwaukee and the receiving team would get most of that contract realized (in other words, it's like they just signed him as a free agent).
  4. Great game. Went tonight.... Short Observations From Tonight: -Kyle Lohse seems worth the money already -Carlos Gomez almost corkscrewed himself into the ground tonight on a first pitch late to win the game. He then hit an opposite field single to get on base. Maybe he IS learning. -Ryan Braun does not look comfortable at the plate right now -The Yunieski Betancourt signing may have been laughable at the time, but he's won our last two games for us. -Ron Roenicke has issues with the bunt; both in when he calls for a sacrifice or getting his players to lay them down successfully -Jean Segura's fielding at SS has been better than I expected
  5. I have been a staunch supporter and defender of the Do-Not-Deal-Gallardo platform. I've been vocal about this in various BFdN forums. To me, before this season started he was untouchable in my mind. And I hate to say this, but it may be time to see what he'd bring us in return.
  6. I want Kentrail to succeed as much as anyone. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/2009_Donruss_Elite_Kentrail_Davis_G.jpg
  7. I can't tell you how pissed off I was in the stands today when Weeks was thrown out at second today. Absolutely inexcusable. Had we lost I would have been more mad. You can't try to get into scoring position with your MVP on deck down two. It's not even hard baseball and Rickie should know that.
  8. The Brewers only made 9 million in profit last season because of a record opening day payroll of 101 million or so and slightly decreased attendence. The Brewers profit was much higher in subsequent years. I don't think 2012 is a good measure of the profitability of the Brewers.
  9. Heh, yeah. I have some Brewers baseball cards. Here's kind of an all-over-the-place random sample of current Brewers and some recent Brewers prospects. I mostly do prospects. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Ryan%20Braun/2005_Bowman_Chrome_Ryan_Braun_Auto1_zps4247642c.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Ryan%20Braun/2005_Bowman_Chrome_Draft_Ryan_Braun_Auto2_zpsb09e58de.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Ryan%20Braun/2005_Bowman_Chrome_Draft_Ryan_Braun_Auto3_zps86b96ce2.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Yovani%20Gallardo/agallardob23312_1.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Autos/Rickie%20Weeks/183e_1.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Autos/Prince%20Fielder/2005_Donruss_Signature_Fielder_Week.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Autos/Prince%20Fielder/2006_Bowman_Chrome_Prince_Fielder_R.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/2004_Bowman_Chrome_Angel_Salome_Gol.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/2004_Bowman_Chrome_Mark_Rogers.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/JeffressGoldRef.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/2012_Donruss_EliteExtraEdition_Victor_Roache_StatusAutoOrange1_zpse62620ce.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/2010_Donruss_Hunter_Morris_EEEStatus_GreenAuto.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/2009_Bowman_Chrome_Wily_Peralta_-1.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/2008_Bowman_Chrome_Caleb_Gindl_Gold.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i229/sheetskout/Prospect%20Portfolio/2008_Bowman_Chrome_Jake_Odorizzi_Or.jpg

  11. If he comes close to the number of quality starts he had last year (26) I'll be happy. And it's not really a bad thing that Lohse seems pretty reliable to put up the innings (at least recently). If it helps there is already speculation that the Brewers could very well play for contention and if not trade Lohse at the deadline by eating a small portion of his salary.
  12. Yes I think he was. Fielder spent half a season in the majors while not even playing, that made no sense. Weeks was brought up to put fans in the seats and no other good reason. The team wasn't going to compete and he didn't have a ton of time in the minors yet, he still needed serious work on his fielding and was striking out way too much. On top of that they played him through an injury which made no sense. Hardy skipped started in the majors after missing time with an injury and having all of 120 PA in AAA, again this made no sense. Braun at least came up when we had hopes to compete so at that point it makes more sense. Gamel again burned a ton of his potential sitting on the bench in the majors when he should have been in the minors. Escobar went about the right path through the minors. Peralta should start this year in the minors to work on his command. It is infinitely better to leave a guy in the minors a little longer than you should than to bring them up before you should. Just go look at how the Rays and Cardinals tend to handle their minor league systems and you'll see why. You increase the length they are on your team and they make bigger impacts when they first come up because they are more polished. I'm not trying to get on you, but at the same time I'm trying to defend Doug. Fielder played four seasons in the minor leagues with over 1600+ AB's. Hardy had over 1200, and yes Rickie was the low one but also played three years in college (750+ MiLB AB's). All three have shown they are all-stars. I'm not saying the Brewers do a better job than the Cards or Rays but they certainly aren't the Tigers.....let's not blame Doug Melvin for mishandling anyone here.
  13. I think you just made an argument for hitting him seventh without knowing it. You want a contact hitter batting eighth who can work the count and get on base before the pitcher. I think Segura fits here. He has some speed to beat out a few ground balls (which Gonzo wouldn't) and won't strikeout as much. A strikeout to end an early-inning so a pitcher has to lead off the next inning is like a two inning loss and to me a key situation that has to be avoid at all costs. Well, unless maybe Gallardo is on the bump.
  14. This was really the only thing Manny Parra was good for. Oh well.
  15. I would highly doubt it as he's out of options and we already have two other lefties in the bullpen. Frankly, based on business and not talent I'd bet Narvy is more a lock to start than even Estrada at this point. Based on business, Estrada is making more than a million more than Narvy. Narveson is not taking his starting spot. I wasn't being literal. They are both locks. My point was that Narveson, all things aside, has about as much job security right now as Estrada. Based on the business it's Fiers or Peralta that's going to go back down. Narvesson can't.
  16. Definitely too aggressive. The Rays and Cardinals do it the right way, the Brewers do it the wrong way. JB I'd rather have Edwin Jackson for sure. I like Lohse more than pretty much the rest of that list though. Of course most of those didn't cost a draft pick either. I'm a little confused by this. Melvin wasn't aggressive with Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, Hart, Gallardo, Parra, Peralta, Braun, Escobar, Gamel..... ....maybe we have different definitions of aggressive, but I'm not able to recall one.... (I mean MAYBE you could put Segura in there, but even he had like 1500 AB's in the minors)

  18. They do, but they're also not spending a first-round signing bonus so that'll do something to subsidize the deal for Lohse. It's not a huge "writeoff" but it's something. Lohse at an adjusted 9million (11million salary minus the two you'd spend on the bonus for pick 17-roughly) isn't so bad. It's 14' and 15' I'm worried about.
  19. Agreed. Jean Segura could go downhill really quickly if he starts making errors at SS too. The bat would have to be really good to offset that resentment.
  20. I really hope they don't have Hellweg cemented into a relief role for the rest of his career. Please let him start the year in the minors in a rotation somewhere.
  21. Easter Sunday 1987. George Webb's Day.
  22. Tom Haudricourt told me that he's packed on 25lbs and that he "seems determined to bounceback".
  23. I would much rather see Green getting those early AB's if Gamel goes down. Gonzalez is not a part of our future. Green still very much could be.
  24. Does this mean there's no shot at Alex Gonzalez anymore? Because I think he would have been a better mentor to Segura.
  25. Spot on. The Brewers might sign a backup SS but I'm afraid we're looking at what we're going into the season with. Here's the payroll chart from Cot's: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tz1FL3X6KldYXIoGOHXpv6A&output=html
