  1. Give me the Blue Jays and the Padres. I'll take the teams surrounding the Crew.
  2. If the rumors about Lara turn out to be true and we sign an athletic pitcher with upside we can make a great attempt to rebuild our minor league perception; but the talent won't come quickly. A list looking like Taylor, Arcia, Touissaint, Lara, D. Williams and so on a year from now doesn't look all that bad (assuming there's something at least positive regarding Taylor/Arcia/etc's progressions). They are pretty young with that group though.
  3. Eh? More polished than Anthony Rendon, Kolten Wong? I'm not even sure Baez could be considered polished at this point. He wasn't even as polished as Lindor and still isn't. I'm not sure where you're getting that Baez was ever considered "polished". His knock is that he isn't refined, but has tremendous power.
  4. I remember a time when I was SUPER scared of Oswalt and Wade Miller when the Brewers used to face Houston. Oswalt was one of my favorites to watch.
  5. How dare you forget Greg Aquino and Claudio Vargas. I'd bring back De La Rosa right about now....
  6. If I had to put money on it now, negating service-time considerations, I would bet Nelson beats Thornburg for that spot out of Spring Training. Even thought they both have some command issues, he is less likely to struggle with that early on IMO.
  7. I would have been super annoyed had this been a major league deal.
  8. Could actually work out well in my opinion. A long shot to contribute significantly, but creative... http://www.brewcrewball.com/2014/1/13/5306158/brewers-sign-outfielder-greg-golson "Golson can play all three outfield spots but has been primarily a center fielder in the minors, appearing there in 767 of his 1012 games. He was the Phillies' first round pick (#21 overall) in the 2004 draft, where he was selected 16 spots after the Brewers took Mark Rogers."
  9. The biggest disappointment to me was Teddy Higuera's left rotator-cuff which this organization back for years.
  10. Unless the pitching prospect in this scenario is Lucas Sims (which it's not) count me out. We aren't getting enough back. I am not sold on Chris Johnson who is approaching 30, has had one good season, and still owns a 116/29 K/BB in 2013. Pass.
  11. http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2014/1/1/5263546/yuniesky-betancourt-free-agent-rumors Looks like there are blogs up in other markets saying the same exact thing. LOL. http://kingsofkauffman.com/2013/12/31/just-say-yuniesky-betancourt/
  12. #IfIHadADimeForEveryTime
  13. I am also of the opinion that Weeks should be given the first crack at 2B this season. Besides the fact that I believe people are vastly overrating Scooter Gennett (and Khris Davis for that matter) we need to see if we can squeeze any value from Weeks if possible. It would be one thing if Gennett's defensive value was heads-and-tails above Rickie, but it's not.
  14. I wasn't sure if anyone was going to mention this as but I completely agree. I don't think it's our top priority, but I think we used a very saavy move to nab an arm that was procedurally overlooked. I'm cool with trying to keep as many young pitchers with mid-nineties fastballs as we can. Good call.
  15. 1. Ryan Braun Returning In Normal Form (we have a whole slew of issues if that money spent leads to average output) 2. Jimmy Nelson or Tyler Thornburg to take a step forward 3. For Aramis Ramirez to stick in the lineup and ultimately have some trade value 4. For Clint Coulter to live up to at least some of the talent (the results from first-round picks is killing us) 5. For Jean Segura not to regress on defense
  16. Not sure if this was mentioned but we can close out any thoughts of Brett Pill as I thought it was mentioned previously. Getting pretty thin. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10179261/brett-pill-san-francisco-giants-sold-korean-team
  17. Why are people getting all up in arms against Michael Young? The guy averages at least a hit per game played, WOULD likely take a huge pay cut at 37, and could probably fill in some injury-plagued year at another position; kind of an insurance policy. I for one, would be WAY more willing to have a clubhouse guy like Young over trading even a mediocre prospect for Ike Davis.
  18. Also not interested in losing the pick, but if we happened to sign Stephen Drew, I would think he'd displace Segura at SS. He's a better defender than Jean.
  19. This! I would be encouraged with Loney who could help balance this lineup out. I don't think Loney vs. Davis is close to me as one of the two routinely puts up 100+ K seasons and the other has never had over 95 K's in more years played.
  20. I'm not sure that the Brewers, who just dealt an outfielder, would want one back. I like Gardner at the top of the order, but this effectively pushes Davis back to a 4th outfielder role. I just don't see them doing it no matter what I'd want. (I don't hold Khris Davis in as high regard as some on BF.net and always viewed him as a non-starter when all was said and done)
  21. You'd think the Yankees might be slightly open to a Weeks/Johnson platoon. Not the worst situation I could think of. But, ironically, Kelly Johnson actually hits LHP better than righties. I could see it happening though. The money for a year is peanuts to them.
  22. Please, please please please please please please please let this happen. Please. To get out of that contract would be a miracle.
  23. I guess I'm not understanding the D'Backs apparent love-affair with Mark Trumbo. Especially in the NL.
  24. Does anyone know how much they actually get paid for this day contract? I've always wondered this as I've seen many athletes do this. I believe Favre did this to retire but always wondered if it was in the thousands, a dollar, more, less?
