  1. Agreed. This should be pasted on top of every Transaction Rumor thread on BF.net. The guy knows when and when not to divulge information.
  2. I would be cool with Walker and Ackley.
  3. I actually would feel better about Morrison's health situation at his price-point than what's going to be Corey Hart's if the funds saved we're guaranteed to be spent elsewhere this year or in the future. Unfortunately there's no guarantee.
  4. You'll learn that any time a Brewer player has a breakout season, some on this board will suggest trading that player. I call it the "Bill Hall" syndrome. Of course not every player is Bill Hall. It's really because that's what we have to do in this market to stay competitive. Especially when our early-round draft record lately has been less than par. In this market we have the luxury to sign one large contract and a few supporting big-money deals and that's about it. I don't blame fans for wanting to parlay Gomez into a frontline starter or something like that. Because realistically, we're virtually outpriced at trying to get top pitching in the free-agent market.
  5. I know this is semi-off-topic, but does anyone have an idea at what the payroll sits at right now and what our projected ceiling is right now?
  6. Very fun read, but Ryan Braun is WAY too low on this list even with the PED suspension in my opinion.
  7. Why does it seem like everyone is against Segura leading off? The guy makes contact, has the speed for it, and doesn't strike out a lot.
  8. Ahh! Very misleading! "But that is not the case, according to Aoki’s agent, Nez Balelo of CAA Sports, and Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash, who double-checked the language in the contract on Monday. It includes language stipulating Aoki will be an untethered free agent at the end of his current deal, whether or not the Brewers exercise their option." This makes me feel a little better.
  9. No, Aoki would have hit arbitration in 2015. He was under team control until 2018. At least according to: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/aokino01.shtml#contracts
  10. I second (or third) this. Although I was FOR trading Aoki, I would have rather waited to see if we could have had something better at the deadline. How many 4/5-types do we need battling it out for mediocrity.
  11. Nice....you found....one. The overriding point is that Gennett doesn't do anything well. You can field like Mark Ellis, and we'll overlook the power deficiency. You can hit like Chase Utley and we'll overlook the glove. You can run (and field) like Luis Castillo, and we'll overlook something else. It's not probable to think Gennett will turn into an above-average MLB player with little supporting evidence. The same as it's improbable to think Jean Segura will stick at SS for the long-term. You can hope it happens, but if you bet money on it you'd be a fool. Watching Segura play SS last year, i saw no reason to think he can't stick at that position. I hope I'm wrong but the statistics and professional scouting indicate otherwise.
  12. He didn't because he wasn't offered one because he couldn't be offered one because he was traded mid-season. Even if he had been offered the Brewers #1 pick is protected is it not? The Brewers first-round pick is not protected. The top ten picks are protected from compensation and the eleventh is protected to the Blue Jays as it's already supplemental to them for not signing their 2013 first-round pick (Phil Bickford).
  13. If we were to get a Hellickson-type for Aoki, especially after yesterday, I would do cartwheels. Again, not probable in my mind. I would imagine it would be a prospect in the 120-140 range.
  14. You can hope it happens, but if you bet money on it you'd be a fool. (And yes, there are others. In fact, Robinson Cano I don't believe was ever a BA top-100 guy. I'm also not advocating BA's opinion as gospel, but Gennett-backers want to COMPLETELY discount scouting in the face of a bunch of late-season AB's - Not smart)
  15. Every 2B-man needs to hit 10-15 home runs to be successful (if they aren't Brandon Phillips with the glove or swiping 40+ bases). On a division-contending team, anyhow. We had our Jim Gantners and Mark Lorrettas already. You know what happened when they were on the roster? We lost.
  16. Time will tell if he played "over his head" or not. Prospect lists are opinions based on projections, hardly a scientific measurement of future success. They are often wrong. Matt Carpenter never appeared on BA's top 100 list either. Was he playing "over his head too"? Tons of guys with great major league careers were never top 100 prospects. I don't see people getting all that excited. Weeks has been awful the last 2 years. The bar isn't that high for Gennett to be better. He was a lot better in 2013. Let's see how he does. He's earned a shot. Situations like Matt Carpenter in St. Louis happens once in a decade. Not exactly what I'd like to bet on especially in this market. And maybe over history there were examples of guys who weren't touted as prospects but had nice careers, but tell me, over the last five years, who would this apply to? (Seriously, I'm asking - lets name some. Cause I don't believe there's many, although maybe I'm overlooking some players)
  17. I would much rather take a shot at Hanson. Speculation is that Hudson won't play the entire 2014 season.
  18. For what it's worth, I don't believe Scooter Gennett will be a long-term 2B'man in MLB. I believe Milwaukee is getting a little too excited for a prospect that was probably in the 150-200 range in MiLB and played over his head when he got the chance. He doesn't do anything particularly well. But that's just me.
  19. I agree that I wouldn't want to part with Thornburg or Nelson for Morrison. But how would anyone else feel about someone like Jungmann for Morrison?
  20. I can't imagine the Marlins being in on Aoki. Aoki's salary would be almost a push for Morrison's 1st-year-arby raise and Morrison is controlled through 2016. It's always kind of difficult to read Miami's intentions....
  21. The Hughes signing is impressive to me at that amount. I think new Yankee Stadium had at least something to do with the down years. If the Brewers had signed Hughes at that price I wouldn't be without caution, but not the worst chance ever taken.
  22. Would Robbie Erlin be enough for Aoki if dealt to the Padres? http://gradingonthecurve.com/2013/12/01/two-young-san-diego-padres-pitchers-block/ "writer Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune believes that the San Diego Padres are looking for left-handed hitting help as well as bullpen arms and are willing to deal a starter to get them."
  23. No, it isn't. It's pretty bad, actually. Kind of all hinges on Gallardo I guess. We get the Gallardo of two years ago instead of last year, not bad.
  24. Depending on the price, I would sign him even if we signed Hart. Garrett Jones could be a really good LH off the bench.
