  1. Personally I'm just happy that Jeffress is getting back on the field. Let's just see what he can do as a reliever and maybe he'll be eased back into a starter next season. Worry about the pitches and their quality more than the positioning right now. The guy hasn't pitched in a pro game in a long time.
  2. I have to disagree. There were much safer picks on the board at this time. Does he have front-line potential? I would say no. But he's still a high-school arm with a long way to go which shows they were willing to take the risk. Wimmers would have been a WAY safer pick here. That being said I think this was a good pick. I was hoping Sale would fall one more pick but I think this was the best they could have done. It's seems to me when Pomeranz came off the board the pitching got tricky. Especially when Loux went higher than expected. Harvey would have been nice too. Covey will be a nice arm to bring along with Odorizzi, Heckathorn, Arnett, etc.
  3. The Astros are trying to get away from mega-priced first base talent already. I just don't see a fit for Oswalt.
  4. I don't think they (Texas) would do it either. Smoak debuted this season, and has a TON of cheap years ahead of him. This is the problem with Fielder. It's not that big a step for a competing club to stick with a second-tier guy at 1st. Having a Smoak who will hit .275 with 25HR's at his worst for the next few years at $450,000 is way more value than a guy hitting at Fielder's (expected) levels for 23 million. The idea of Smoak also doesn't address our larger concern. Fielder and another to Atlanta for Julio Teheran, Randall Delgado, Freddie Freeman I would do in a second! And take that freed up revenue and sign a good starter.
  5. Way to optimistic at this point. I wish him all the success in the world, but I'd be happy if he turned into a Major League pitcher a la Morrow at this point. At worst he's out of baseball. Morrow is an established Major League pitcher. Not sure how Morrow is established. He is a 1 pitch guy with zero control. Jeffress could reasonably match what Morrow has done throughout his brief career. To me, they are the same guy. The only difference is the philosophies of the organizations they came up with. Worst case for any player is out of baseball. Jeffress' floor, if and when he makes it to the majors, is Brandon Morrow. Is that better? Brandon Morrow - 238.2 Major League Innings, 4.34ERA in the American League, More than a K/inning in the Major LeaguesJeremy Jeffress - 0 Innings Pitched Above Double-A (and he still hasn't proven he can get double-A hitters out consistently)

  7. I'm going to guess you read my tweet on Twitter. @jordo2323 It's almost verbatim the above message. I agree. As another option I see Baltimore. They have been really open to spending money and a package of Tillman, Hobgood, and Brandon Snyder might do it for me.
  8. Does anyone know what the deal is with Kentrail Davis. He went on the 7-day DL, came off and had 11 AB's or so, and hasn't played in a few games. Is he injured again?
  9. I know Salome went on leave to be with his girl during the pregnancy, but it's been like two weeks. Isn't this a bit long? Was there some update I missed? Someone fill me in!
  10. Absolutely not. The last thing I want to see is for anyone to split time with Salome. He needs the AB's. As does Lucroy. I say either make this temporary or send Salome to AA after it's all over. Just don't let them ride the pine.
  11. Salome came back for one game after his child's birth and then nothing. He played well in the game back too. Weird. Two games back actually, but he only walked in one PA on 4/16. http://web.minorleaguebas...p;t=p_pbp&pid=449162
  12. I am not in favor of calling up Zack Braddock in the near future. Sure the guy hasn't allowed a run, but there are other candidates and he could use the work.
  13. Tell that to a former Southern League batting champion; who hasn't started the season that badly either. The worst thing we could do is trade them. Salome and Lucroy give the Brewers a chance to strike gold. And gold in the Major Leagues is a Catcher who can hit. (And I know there's knocks on Salome's D, but I still say ride this out and let them get as many AB's as possible simultaniously)
  14. I think you have to try for a package containing Ryan Westmoreland.
  15. 1. Angel Salome 2. Jon Lucroy 3. Angel Salome 4. Jon Lucroy 5. Angel Salome -Damn, we need a hitting catcher in there before 2011.
  16. All this would have meant was that Heyward would be an Indian at this point Remember, at the time Laporta was dealt to Cleveland he was a huge prospect.
  17. Great to see this. National exposure is great for Braun and Milwaukee.
  18. Search #FielderScenarios in Twitter for an interesting series.
  19. I know Kentrail Davis was a supposed first-round talent and a USA player but anyone have any expectations or first hand observations? Any video links to practice/game footage would be outstanding. Other thoughts greatly appreciated as well.
  20. Prince is arguably my favorite player. That being said I am not in favor of signing a first-baseman, special or not, to a huge deal. Especially if this means we would lose out on Gallardo (assuming Gallardo progresses how he should). It's easier to replace offense at first base than any other position on the diamond. I don't think it's likely he signs either. At least, this never seems to happen with Boras clients. Part of me wants him to sign, but I think it's smarter in the long run to deal him for a prospect heavy deal, sign Gallardo to a long term deal and become the pitching heavy team we need to be to get back to the playoffs.
  21. To put this another way. I would be extremely surprised to see Gamel start the season in Milwaukee. He either gets full-time AB's (somewhere) or gets traded.
  22. I think he'll sign but the timing will either be a week or two before Spring Training, or after the season. Mauer is extremely focused and has stated in the past that he doesn't like to get distracted about salary demands during the season. That city would collapse if he didn't get resigned, and frankly it would cause me to die a little inside. I can't see the Yanks, Sox, etc claim another one.
  23. I wouldn't put it past Beane. Plus he may be a nice half-season mentor for Cahill and Anderson.
  24. Not that I noticed. They are too busy scrambling to get their pieces in place to resign Pujols. And that included signing Holliday.
  25. Why? Who else are the Brewers going to be spending that money on?A nice looking starting pitcher named Yovani Gallardo. I love Prince. But if it's between Gallardo and Prince I say Fielder walks. First base is the easiest position to replace production with. Ace starters are gold.
