  1. K.C. is my AL-team. Great baseball city and they've never really done anything to anger me over the years. I wish them the best of luck. I also have tremendous respect for Escobars' talent at SS. I really wish there was some way we could have had him stick around.
  2. This is pretty much the point I start to go into seasonal depression. This is also highly inversely-correlated with the temperature. It helps to think it's only really like five months to ST. I'm-a-so-sad. Winters coming.
  3. Big time play by Weeks in the field.....now that the pressure's off. Seems to be Rickie's M-O his entire career.
  4. Who do you want to replace him with? My guess is that the mutual option is inevitable.
  5. Bryce Harper is a national brand now, with extreme-early-career endorsements to multinational companies. There's no way he's going to give that up at present and neither will the Lerner family. (I would love it too, though)
  6. Just to be clear, the system WAS barren in 2002. Fielder didn't even debut until late 2002 and was a high-schooler. We had no idea at that point what he would've turned into. J.J. Hardy was a second rounder and Baseball America consistently ranked the Brewers system toward the bottom of their rankings until that crop made the higher-minors. The system really didn't start to show its promise until way after Weeks was drafted - which was in 2003.
  7. I don't see the Brewers making a big investment at SS with Arcia/Rivera in our system. There will be sentiment to give Segura an extended shot there. We'll call this the first-year-all-star-hangover-effect.
  8. RT @bachlaw: Amusing fact: post-Biogenesis Ryan Braun, with his chronic thumb injury, has a higher ISO (.204) than Miguel Cabrera (.198)
  9. I wonder how Harrison's speed compares to guys like Dee Gordon and Billy Hamilton.
  10. Q: Jordan Mendelblatt, Glendale, WI - Do you have any information or thoughts on Brewers DSL CF Joantgel Segovia? I know it's the Dominican Leagues, but this guy is absolutely mashing on a consistent basis and shows discipline (20/16 BB/K ratio) and is now hitting over .375. Obviously not one of the higher international signees by the Brewers as was Franley Mallen or Nicholas Pierre, does this guy have a future? A: Tom Haudricourt - I will be honest with you and say I don't know much about Segovia. It's hard to project what these teenagers in the DSL are going to do until you see them play in the States. But you're right about his numbers. Very impressive.
  11. I know there are some who are immediately going to tell me Segura passes the "eye test" at SS, but Rollins would be a defensive upgrade in the field. Statistically anyhow.
  12. Pretty sure Mike Fiers is the Garza contingency right now.
  13. I'm on board with this kid too! But holy caught stealings Batman!
  14. I would imagine Hellweg to be in that bullpen mix sometime soon. I'm a little surprised they haven't given up on him as a starter yet at Nashville.
  15. Hindsight will be 20/20 (or maybe even 20/15!). Should the Brewers make the playoffs the fan base will have no issue with standing pat. Should they miss a ton of fans will complain the Brewers should've done more. The moral? Make the freaking playoffs and this is a non-issue.
  16. They could trade Gallardo and with Weeks gone, Lohse the following year, they could absolutely do it. No they couldn't. Unless the payroll was raised to about 120million annually. By then Kintzler, Peralta, Gennett, Davis, and a host of others will get aribitration raises virtually nullifying any savigs we had with Rickie Weeks. Brauns contract starts to climb as well and regarding next season it looks as though we have no choice to pick up the options on Gallardo and Ramirez. I guess Mark A. could splurge even further, but I find that highly improbable and it definately would be unprecedented in Milwaukee.
  17. Cole Hamels is due 22.5 million dollars every year thru 2018. There's no way this market takes that contract on.
  18. I know this won't be popular, but Corey Hart would be a free agent again after the season and I don't see the Mariners contending frankly. I wouldn't be shocked if the Mariners tried to deal him back to us to net a prospect if they fall back.
  19. Selection #13 - San Diego Padres Brandon Finnegan - LHP - TCU The Padres have a couple of higher-end pitching prospects in Fried and Wisler and a very deep system. On the offensive side they also have a few power OF candidates in Dickerson, Renfroe and Medica who's already seen time. It's almost time for them to "pull the trigger" on their core group. I see them going college pitching here. Another lefty makes their pitching depth very attractive.
  20. Selection #11 - Toronto Blue Jays Trea Turner - SS - NC State The Blue Jays have an abundance of of young arms at the top of their prospect sheets, but besides uber-young Franklin Barreto no real candidate to man SS when Jose Reyes can't do it anymore - which is looking to be sooner than later. Turner would replace Reyes leadoff capability fairly soon while also replacing his position. I also think the Blue Jays will start to shy away from the riskier picks they have been known for.
  21. I'm not sure this would ever happen. Didi Gregorious is a better fielder than Jean Segura.
  22. I'm not sure what's being asked here. I think I understand, but then you brought up Arnett as the pre-eminent example and this has thrown me way off....
  23. If you believed everything being written about players this time of year, you'd be convinced every team is coming north with 35 players, not 25. The Brewers on one hand have been publicly marveling about Francisco's awesome power this spring. But they still went out this winter and looked at virtually every other option available at first base, eventually bringing in a flawed guy like Reynolds and the aging Overbay. If that's not a lack of confidence in Francisco, I don't know what is. So Rosenthal is speculating on a landing spot for "Fan"cisco. It gets people talking. That's his job when it comes down to it. If he gets a HOF vote and get's paid over $30,000 a year for creating discussion, which anybody at this site can do, then this is such a waste of money. Worse than the Federal Government spending 500 million on the research of squirrels. Can you source this? I know it's off-topic, but I honestly don't think you're correct about this or Rosenthal.
  24. For me, velocity is EVERYTHING involving Gallardo. And I would not extend him at this specific point in time. Should he show the velocity we've seen a year-and-a-half ago and returns to a 200k pitcher under 30, the situation changes completely. I pretty much agree that it'll probably play out as he's either worth the option or not, and if so we'll try to get FA compensation from it as said previously.
