  1. Will be super interested to see the financials on this one. Happy for a guy like Drew to turn new found success into a big pay day. He was great with us.
  2. Struggled a bit in his first dip in the majors at the plate but his career MiLB line: .308/.397/.433 .. here is to hoping!
  3. "Luis Urias was No. 16 on @MLBPipeline's Top 100 prospects list in January 2019. He comes to the Brewers with 120 days of MLB service, so they'll get six years of control." I'm not convincing you of nothin'..
  4. I wonder if Arcia is now on the market full time..
  5. This could very well be the highest his value is going to be ... He also could blossom into a nice player that we will miss once Braun leaves, but I am reasonably ok with it pending the return.
  6. The only way MLB should send a team to Orlando is if TB or Miami are relocated. Those two teams were dead last in attendance ... what would be different in Orlando?
  7. This entire rebrand, in my opinion, was done so incredibly well. 50th year of baseball and so they have incorporated nearly every logo from the team's past into this season's get up. The patches are all so clever. My only wish is the update to the barrelman could have been a touch more daring ... but the barley ball is awesome and a nice tip of the cap to the logo we adopted in the 90's. The Wisconsin logo with the cream city reference AS WELL as having a place for the "M" from our prior logo (so it wasn't completely deleted) all the while shouting out this alt logo we had back in the 70's... Just so well done. I hope the Brewers compete at a high level this year ... because the ceremonies I'm sure that are being planned are going to inject a lot of life into the city and fans and if we can couple that with on field talent... this might be the year guys.
  8. When the logo was leaked a few weeks back I was super annoyed at the 'bridge' connecting the two letters like you mentioned. Then I just told myself it was a lowercase, cursive 'm' and the "bridge" was actually part of the letter and my annoyance disappeared instantly. Now I see it as a lowercase m and b and I like it just fine. Just a thought.
  9. I do understand it is a big move to go play in Japan/Korea, etc .. but for a fringe MLB player this seems like such a reasonable career choice. They pay well, likely much much better than an AAA/AAAA salary and you will likely get consistent reps against good competition. If you were having a hard time breaking into the big leagues ... this will either be the confidence/ability boost you need to get back (Thames) or will be the financial security you need if your career doesn't work out in MLB. Am I wrong?
  10. The writers and votes are here: https://bbwaa.com/19-nl-mgr/ 6 of the 30 ballots did not include Counsell including one writer each from Stl and Chi. No conspiracy here... just stating facts.
  11. This probably doesn't belong in this thread ... but re: Pomeranz, the guy was a game changer out of the pen. Suter can be spoken of the same way. What criteria should we be looking for with starters who are league average or worse to be brought to the pen to become extreme assets? Alt deliveries? Alt pace? Alt anything? I feel like if I were a rebuilding club looking to stockpile young talent and assets that could be turned into young talent ... finding starters turned bullpen arms to be deadline bait would be a cheap method of strategy.
  12. Braun as a -13.2 defensively is hard to see. I wonder what that number becomes with a move to 1B? The fact that they have both Braun and Arcia ending the year with the same WAR is either really funny or really scary. Has Josh Donaldson's name come up at all with Brewers' brass as a stop gap if Moustakas signs elsewhere? His numbers last year were nothing to sneeze at, although I understand his salary would likely be astronomical...
  13. Suter proved to be an absolute weapon for the Crew down the stretch. I know people aren't in love with his stuff but the guy provides so much from a locker room/glue standpoint that if his performance next year mirrors anything even close to what he showed this year, he's an incredibly valuable piece to have for a team that doesn't really have any guys that you can count on for 7 every time out (at this point in time). With his versatility, I wouldn't at all be surprised if we look at Suter a year from now as the team's MVP. Regardless of stuff, he knows how to pitch and he's just a gamer. This particular point about Suter has been hashed over and over again, especially when he was a starting pitcher but it is worth revisiting in any convo about him. His pace is such a change up to anyone else in the league and the first time through an order for hitters it is just odd and uncomfortable to hit against him. Someone will need to verify this for me because I am bad at the internet, but when he was a starter I felt like his first time through the order was good to possibly even above average and then he struggled the 2nd time through. When you bring him in after a starter throwing 92-97 you get hit with a slower pitch at an electric pace and I don't care who you are .. it is uncomfortable. Suter in that mid game 2-3 inning role makes so much sense why he was successful and I would hope/expect that to be the norm from here on out. Incredible piece to have in the bullpen.
  14. The 26th man gives someone like Keon Broxton a chance at a ML job next year. Elite defense + pinch running becomes a viable year long bench piece I think?
  15. Perez was a glue guy. He or Pina were always the one carrying the Gatorade bucket after a walk off win, that spoke volumes to me about their place among the players. But like others have said, in terms of pure production we likely need to do better.
  16. Great landing spot for him. Familiar franchise, familiar part of the country, he has already thrived in the AL environment, etc Made too much sense for Trout and friends not to pursue...
  17. Super funny we would consider Hamels given the trash talking he has done the last year+ ... BUT if there is a team that is better suited for a veteran looking for a short term deal to maximize dollars.. I'd like to know who that is. Hamels does, fortunately or unfortunately, make a lot of sense.
  18. This has been my argument all season to folks who have questioned the Villar move. If Villar stays, does Hiura come up? Villar was able to play shortstop, but it wasn't a great sight... so I don't think that combo would have worked.
  19. I may be in the minority here but if Thames has any trade value I think we should get something for him. He was a nice surprise this season but there will be platoon-able options on the FA market that will cost the same or less and if Cain stays Braun will be getting a lot of reps at first. 1.6 WAR was great from what turned out to be an almost full time first baseman, but maybe save a bit of money and get a prospect or 5th starter type for him.
  20. That's a good point, so what does the depth chart look like now, if Lyles and Gonzalez are gone? Not a lot of depth. Woodruff Davies Houser Anderson Nelson Suter Burnes Peralta Wilkerson Supak Brown Wilkerson and Burnes are not options. Burnes looked horrible and needs to prove something in AA or AAA. Wilkerson was beyond terrible in the majors and was dfa'd so he too is out. Brown looked pathetic in AAA, so I don't see him as any type option either. Supak too looked terrible in AAA, but good in AA. I don't see him being anywhere near MLB ready next year. That doesn't leave much so hopefully Gio and Lyes are re-signed and Stearns finds some way to get another pitcher. How do people still speak in certainties around here? So you are telling me Burnes goes from looking like a top 20 young arm in baseball to not having a clue after we switch pitching coaches and there isn't a chance he can tweak some mechanics this winter and return to prospect he was for 3+ years? If he has a good winter and comes out lighting people up in Spring Training he will absolutely be an option and likely will break camp in the rotation. Come on man.
  21. I mean, just because of lack of numbers I'm assuming we will see a few new faces to the rotation a la Wade Miley last year. A bunch of Drew Smyly types and 1 or 2 or 3 (!!) will gain life and earn a spot.
  22. You are then left with either Taylor or Perez to replace Braun or Cain if their injuries flare up. I'm not sure I'm ok with that.
  23. Just hit me .. all those years of me wanting one good lefty out of the pen. Depending on your opinion of Claudio, we are sitting with 4. Crazy.
  24. Seconded. I really don't understand this philosophy. Is this what the cool kids are doing or something? Built in depression protection. If they lose "This is what I expected", if they win "OH MY GOSH HOW AMAZING!". It's a defense.
