  1. My goodness a Ben Gamel sighting for Gwinnett. Ebel's average is flirting with .250 and his OPS has .800 in sight after that dreadful start... which is something.
  2. If the Cardinals start an 'opener' tomorrow our leadoff guy is on notice ..
  3. Jeepers I just saw the vision.. what a story this would be. Deadline comes around the Brewers trade for Freddy to shore up the rotation and get Uribe right. Then trade with Boston for Chapman and get them to throw Durbin in the deal. Both deals we give back significantly less than we originally got. Arnold goated. World Series locked.
  4. Re: Uribe... Are the Brewers going to be the team that trades for Peralta at the deadline to solidify our rotation AND bullpen?!?! Blue not blue.
  5. I was curious about Uribe this year with Peralta gone. Two years ago Uribe fights a guy, gets suspended, demoted, hurt and is done. That next off-season there were so many reports and videos and photos of him all winter long down at Peralta's home working together. Last year he blossomed remarkably. Peralta is traded and there was 10% of me that thought "I wonder if Freddy had a pulse on him that will go unchecked this year?" Thought it was probably silly. Still most likely do. But.. ??
  6. I love when someone gives an unresearched hot take and Sveum comes in and detonates it with a bucketload of data. It's the most polite "you are wrong" we have here and it's my favorite thing.
  7. Exactly my point. There are like nine names that could or could not have been impacted by that trade. So trying to figure out what value we did and did not gain from it is far too complicated.
  8. This statement is also why the conversation is always good but definitive statements should be generally avoided IMHO. Someone had to pitch for us in the rotation the year Burnes left. Tobias Myers and Colin Rea had good years for us (combined 3.7 WAR)... do one or either of them see the mound if Burnes is here? Shouldn't we factor in their WAR to a degree in grading the trade?, etc It's a much deeper analysis than Player A for Player B ... but the latter is the cleanest way to grade things - as surface level as that is.
  9. The other crazy thing is this a Brewers' issue only. No other teams (and especially no contending teams!) have offensive issues throughout their lineups.
  10. No. The two pitchers absolutely not and I think Hamilton gets so much more hate around here than he deserves. Everything you said about Hamilton is how I feel as well.. being left-handed he balances the infield better than Durban could and with all of our in-field prospects on the cusp being right-handed hitters as well... He will compliment next year's team the same way.
  11. I don't think your take is crazy at all. I personally would not start the guy who gave up 8 earned runs and 5 home runs in last year's playoffs but that's just me and I don't think it's a crazy take to go with someone else. One of these rough lines from this season is a modern day hurt version of Brandon Woodruff THIS YEAR. One of these rough lines is a modern day healthy Freddy Peralta THIS YEAR. You can choose whomever you want but they seem pretty similar to me and the guy I'm picking hasn't been healthy yet.. not quite sure why that is a wild take. 3.52era 1.27wh 9k/9 2.3k/bb 3.6era 1.03wh 7.5k/9 4.15k/bb
  12. It's all opinion obviously but as of today Miz and Harrison I'm not letting anyone argue taking Peralta over. I'm taking Henderson until he slips up, he just has been too good not to be the guy in the #3 spot as of this moment. Then if Woodruff is healthy I'm going with him #4. If he isn't healthy I'd take Peralta as the 4th. So for me he is #4 or #5 and I don't think that's a crazy take by any stretch.
  13. I was just asking. You said you've noticed we tend to run positional players to a QO and not trade them. I didn't know if I was missing someone other than Adames. I would offer that doing something once is not a tendency. If it happens to Bill and Brice then we have a few data points.
  14. Other than Adames have we offered any positional player a qualifying offer under Arnold?
  15. I think the topic could be wider. It isn't just starting pitching with a year left of control, it is trading assets at perceived peak value to strengthen the overall organization and doing that top to bottom. Burnes and Peralta are the most notable examples because they are the top of the chain along with Williams and Hader. But Durbin is an example, Collins is an example, you can drop down recently to KC Hunt and Jadher Areinamo as they possibly qualify. Sometimes it works out incredibly well and sometimes it doesn't in terms of immediate major league impact. I don't see any way this discussion doesn't turn into "you have to go for it at some point or you'll never beat LA" which is a different discussion... but personally I don't think we have October opportunities without an organizational philosophy of mass value acquisition.
  16. Both things can be true. Peralta would be a great fit for our rotation currently and that trade hold tremendous potential value on the Brewers end. Someone in this thread (who is trying to trade Sproat or Gasser for Durbin elsewhere) is the concerning stance unfortunately.
  17. Fun topic and I assume there are many factors that I/we are unaware of. Big gigantic puzzle on how and when to push and pull guys. Generally speaking it makes sense to me that you don't hold back on a player's progression because you can't 'backfill' but rather that his promotion creates issues above him. If the player is a rocketship - like Made or Chourio or Miz, etc - you figure things out around them regardless of others. But for a guy like Adamczewski in Appleton (as an example) - he needs to get moved up but I could see the Brewers FO wanting him to get daily at bats above all else. Mike Boeve has been playing more LF in AA this year as the Brewers try to add that to his bag and when Josh A moves up I assume he will get the majority of LF starts. So this may be a case of Milwaukee wanting every day at bats for both Josh A and Mike B for at least the first half of the year before the re-shuffle. Boeve is actually a great example because Fischer is the 3rd baseman who will push him off of 3rd in Biloxi so if Milwaukee wants Boeve to get everyday at bats ... Adamczewski and Fischer both can't be in AA. Filling in roster depth behind a promoted player isn't a terribly difficult task IMO if you don't have a prospect readily available. The Brewers kind of did that a month ago when they signed Coley to play in Biloxi. Lots of guys out there who want to play and be given a chance so instead of promoting someone who isn't ready you can just grab a milb free agent that can keep the seat warm while we wait for our prospect to be ready while also giving that person off the street a realistic opportunity to reinvent themselves
  18. The Brewers would pass on this one. We would take Durbin back if he was released.
  19. Henderson has 11 career starts between last year and this year and has yet to give up more than two runs in any of them. Freddy has 11 starts this season and has given up more than two runs in 5 of them. Just data points to consider.
  20. I think if you put this to a poll you would be shocked at the results. Also, kind of funny that this article is talking about walks being an issue for a starting pitcher and you are wanting Peralta back.
  21. Definitely possible. I also think right now they are choosing between Mitchell's defense vs Bauers' offense and the latter has been more valuable possibly?
  22. Not wanting the rookies who would replace him to come up immediately because "the lights might be too bright" is probably the answer to your question. If we don't trust Pratt or Leonard to hit against Justin Wrobleski at home in May... Then maybe they need some more seasoning in AAA. Jett will be here in 3 weeks when his Super 2 triggers. Until then it doesn't make sense to cut bait for depth purposes.
  23. Can you imagine the "devil magic" talk that would come out if they cut Durbin, we signed him back and he immediately went back to '25 Durbin?
  24. That's the forever dance. Which guys are worth rolling the dice on AND are those players willing to cash in early. The Brewers just took a pretty decent leap of faith with Pratt. It seems we 'guessed' correctly on Chourio. We likely have missed the boat on Turang and Miz and possibly Made. So back to your original topic and proposal ... are we sure about Harrison after 50+ innings? Are you ready to commit that much financially before the league has had a chance to adjust and figure his new self out? Is the payoff of having him for an extra year worth the tighter financial space that puts us in while we are competing the next 2-3 years?
