I just mentioned this last night in whatever thread that if there was a surprise in store for the crew and September call ups... Wagoner is my pick.

I'm not anticipating it obviously but if I had to throw a wild card in there this year it would be Wagoner. He has been eating people up all year.

I also believe he coaches guys to their personality. He challenges some guys in post game pressers, he pokes fun at other guys, he consistently repeats the same certain positive qualities for others. I think it is by design that different guys get 'consistently different' treatment vs others. The whole "some guys need a kick in the butt, some guys need a hand on the shoulder" type deal. Don't mind people not liking it. Overall a shrug to me, Murph has earned my trust in terms of team chemistry type scenarios.

Rengifo was the 3B and Ortiz was the SS and Hamilton was the left handed compliment for both to give breaks. Jett was the insurance if Rengifo scuffled and he still paired well with Hamilton when it was his time. Both Rengifo and Jett didn't hold up their ends of the bargain and that left Hamilton rowing the entire boat by himself until Pratt was ready.

If my counting is right ... if we stick with a 6 man rotation Miz will get 2 of the 7 Cubs games and if we move to a 5 man he will only get 1.

I'm not going to say anything new that anyone else here hasn't heard or felt or lived themselves ... but I was born in 1984 (for the context of this team's history). I have a few early, early memories of being at Brewers games when I was real young ... but one of the earliest CLEAREST memories I have of Brewers baseball is standing in the kitchen with my dad listening to Yount's 3000th on the radio. My dad clapped his hands once and threw them in the air as Uecker called it out and he was 25% emotional saying "oh, he did it!". I heard his voice catch. That was my first real "oh, wait ... baseball is awesome" moment. I then went through the same thing you all did for the next 25+ years. Hitting the middle of August and plotting out the schedule to find a path to .500. Getting excited when we signed Jeffrey Hammonds because "this is the free agent acquisition we've been needing!". Signing Bob Hamlin and low key thinking "this guy was rookie of the year... there is a star in there somewhere". "Cal Eldred is going to carry us!". "Manny Parra could be an ace!". etc, etc ... only to be wondering each year by June which guy on our squad MLB was going to mercifully hand an all-star nod to so we could be represented. To look at the standings today and see the Brewers 31 games above .500 is unfathomable to me. These are video game standings and something I would have bet my life back in the late 90s was unattainable for our team. Pair that with the best farm system in all of the game and the fact that I can still buy an SRO ticket for $10-$20* and carry in my own drinks to watch the Brewers on the cheap most days that I desire.... Mark A is vastly underrated. I want a title FOR him as opposed to IN SPITE of him, as some others seemingly have positioned themselves.

I love guys who know who they are and maximize it. I'm not sure it is fair to expect anyone who doesn't have Jose Ramirez qualities to produce Jose Ramirez like stats. Hamilton has been great in his role, he just has been asked to play too much because Rengifo didn't work and we have had a little injury bug as of late. The breakdown of the defensive play above is head scratching. "he had to change to a more difficult form of playmaking."... suggesting taking a grounder in PFP on your throw side is more difficult than fielding a roller bare handed (or otherwise) and throwing across your body on the run is a very good example of an opinion, respectfully.

What were we collectively expecting from Hamilton when the season started that he "just can't seem to get it right"? .275/.375/.500 with GG defense? He is a backup infielder that will likely end the season above 2 WAR.

Whether he wins or not is another question but I would surprised if Joey isn't a finalist at utility. I can't imagine there are many who have played better defense with the relative volume of innings at 2 positions like he has.

Just a few days after this topic was created and it isn't looking great for the Cubbies. If the Crew goes 16-16 the rest of the way the Cubs need to be a minimum of 23-9.

I know it is different than a pitcher building up his arm for a full major league season of work but I don't hate the idea of giving both Pratt and Lara extra off days down the stretch here to help them be ready for the finish. They both played 120+ games last year but still... Both will be getting a crash course in high stakes baseball the rest of the way and it is a long season for first timers. It helps tremendously that we have Joey and Bunty playing well so Pratt doesn't need to play everyday AND having OF options for Lara is great. If someone gets hurt and they need to be full-time guys again... I'd rather steal a couple of extra days for both of them now while we can. Also noting though that if the playoffs started today I'd want Lara playing.

Game 4 in LA. Brewers up 3-0 in the series. Tie game goes to extras. Yelich is mired in an 0-36 slump. Camera comes back from commercial break and slowly spans the LA crowd before coming to rest on a singular Brewers fan donning the visitor's jersey. He slowly stands to reveal '#9 Uecker' on his back. He starts flapping his arms, slowly. From the dugout, Murphy glances over to Yelich. "Yeli you are hitting for Vaughn" Yelich sends the first pitch he sees deep into the LA night giving Milwaukee the lead. . . The phone rings in the bullpen. An old wily vet stands and starts loosening. From his press box, Clayton Kershaw breaks into a sweat. 15 consecutive 90 mph fastballs later the Dodgers have been eliminated and the Brewers are heading to their first World Series in over 40 years. The camera pans back to the crowd, the fan wearing #9 is gone. After the game Woodruff reveals he has needed surgery this whole time, but held off for one final inning. His career is over.

I don't mind playing the hits. What a sweet walk off to wake up to. Thanks Seattle!

I'm not wanting to go through the game thread so I apologize if this has been said already... but barring crazy things that just about locks up the Cy Young for Miz. I'm not taking for granted that we have the best pitcher in baseball putting together one of the best pitching seasons of all time.
