Which is the opposite of what this thread is requesting (and I agree with you btw). The only way this system works to provide enough above average talent to compete consistently is if the wheels don't stop churning in that cadence. The long term contracts offered have to be so limited and strategic. A few bad 8 figure deals or 1 bad 9 figure deal blows the whole thing up.
That's why Turang probably has to go when his time is done. Contreras hurts a bit more to me but the same thing.
Harrison looks to be an incredible find and we are going to be lucky to have him for half a decade. But the beat goes on...
22 steals for the affiliates tonight and that includes only 1 each for AAA and AA, who had underwhelming offensive nights. 20 steals between Rookie ball, Wilson and Appleton.
Just in case anyone was wondering who the Brewers are targeting for their system...
Reading through the knee jerk reactions on this one was fun. Trading away comfort for the unknown is polarizing.
This front office has done so well trading nickels for dimes but the Zerpa deal will leave just enough doubt that next off season when we trade Megill or Vaughn or whomever else we deem has surplus value or is a regression candidate ... we will go through this all over again.
Brewers top 5 positional WAR leaders this year (Bref):
Turang 2.2
Contreras 1.0
Bauers .9
Hamilton .6
Lockridge .5
Bottom 3
Greg Jones -.7
Luis Rengifo -.5
(Frelick, Matos) -.1
One of our 3rd baseman should be drawing the ire of the fan and one of them should not be.

First Arnold, then Hook, then Jim Henderson.
.. and truthfully as much as I am enjoying Harrison, with the way the Brewers are uncovering these guys we will just trade Harrison in 3 years for 3 more Harrisons.
... Not just because we battered them on the diamond, but there are two wildly different approaches to how to build a ball club and one of those approaches pummeled the other one these last few days. If you are on the Cubs side of this, there has to be a little despair watching Milwaukee build that rotation with that youth at that price and then looking at what you have on your side.
95% of the time a series in May would be "just another series" no matter who you were playing and that still very well end up being true about this one when it's all said and done. But in the current climate and given everything... this had to be so deflating to that entire team and fan base. They will make a run if their pitching can hold up but at this current moment - this is a season shifting moment for both squads.
It looks like the Red Sox will be sellers at the deadline and I'm not too interested in obtaining any pieces from them this summer per se.. but what I am interested in is who they acquire via trade prospect wise AND/OR who they call up to fill their rotation in August and September ... Because that will determine who wins 16 games for us next year.
