  1. No, but if they started Kotteras and Morgan it would be an upgraded and if they had obtained any warm body to play SS it would look better too. This is fixable within the organization but bad choices like Reed, Kotsay, Nieves, Betancourt etc are going to sabotage the roster in April. Not my point. The only question for our opening day roster for the last 3 weeks was whether it would be Nieves or GK to catch Yovani. You want Morgan to start in right? Kotsay was getting that assignment ever since Hart went down and we all knew that... like it or not. My point is this thread is like me starting a thread and saying "Yovani is pitching opening day" and that's it. We've been discussing this same thing for the last 4 weeks.
  2. I'm assuming you've been watching this spring.... so when Hart and Lucroy went down and we were told they wouldn't be ready for opening day ... were you expecting the starting lineup to include Joe Mauer and Ichiro? I'm not trying to be sarcastic .. but we've been talking about this lineup for over a month and I'm curious because you seem legitimately surprised.
  3. Ummm... Really? I think Gomez is much faster than "Above Average". Yeah the rankings are very off here on him. He's probably a 9 or 10 speed. And an 8 fielding and 9 or 10 range.I will say, on the poster's own created scale of 2-8 ... a 9 or a 10 is very impressive.
  4. Morgan adds a potentially crucial asset to our late inning abilities with his speed. I also think that the leadership on this team (Braun, Prince, Rickie, etc..) will be able to keep him in check if he ever starts showing any mental breakdowns. The Dickerson/Dykstra for Morgan/Mitre deal is definitely ok with me.
  5. I'm digging ... but his speed off the bench would be a nice asset late in games. PEM ... unless you are expecting Gomez to figure out how to use a baseball bat this year.. Morgan's career .283/.344 wouldn't be a bad thing at the bottom of our lineup.. because right now Gomez, Lucroy, Yuni, Pitcher is a black hole.
  6. Would he take over the everyday CF job? If so, would he be our lead off guy and Rickie would slide down to #5? Or are we looking at him at #8... Would Gomez keep his job?
  7. I bet those same scouts are going to be singing a different tune now that we got the Sergio Experience.
  8. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Great call Briggs.
  9. I'm ok with what Melvin ended up getting for Cain http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. Kotsay doesn't thrill me either ... but Kapler and Edmonds, at least in my opinion, are making me give him a chance because Melvin has done good things with vets in the past.
  11. Found this on ESPN in their article on Oliver Perez's release... From what I understand, instead of paying Bobby Bonilla the $5.9 million he was owed when they released him in 1999, the Mets agreed to pay Bonilla $29.8 million from 2011 until 2034. Is this accurate? Can anyone help? Did Bonilla really get a 500% return on that money? What a great retirement package. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6242549
  12. I realize it is winter ball and a small sample size ... but I'm going to throw some gasoline on the fire anyway... Luis Cruz offensive line in the Mexican League this winter was awesome. 178 PAs over 45 games, .325/.364/.633, 15 2B, 12 HR, 12 BB, 15 K BB/K rate is bad... but we are talking about a potential replacement for Betancourt so that shouldn't matter. If he could hit .260 over a full season I'd think it would be an upgrade over YB for the defense alone. Not sure where that power came from though ... his career minor HR to at bat ratio was 1:60 or so ... wouldn't count on any power in the big leagues. I'm hoping this turns into a story.
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/news/story?id=6098059 His contract is toxic. More curious than anything.
  14. You mean weren't excited when Rafael Roque was handed the ball opening day once upon a time?
  15. I was wanting to believe that Melvin was forced to take Betancourt in this trade, but now i'm starting to wonder if Doug asked for Betancourt to be included. I don't put much stock in this at all. If TH asked Doug about YB ... Melvin wasn't going to come out and say "We are obviously looking to upgrade at shortstop now" ... I would bet a lot of money that a move will be made beyond Counsell at SS.
  16. Is anybody else seeing the Craig Counsell resemblance?! If you told me you were from 2025 and Counsell was working as a coach for Anaheim and showed me that ... I think I'd believe in time travel...
  17. This is potentially the quote of the year...
  18. It hurts me that we get 10 in the first and DD can't get himself a win. It actually hurts me.
  19. I'm spent the last 20 minutes trying to figure out which Nationals player is going to pitch the 9th inning for Washington. I'm going with Adam Kennedy.
  20. Has looked great .. but I am not going to get overly excited about 8 innings of work. Nice to think we have another option though for this year and beyond...
  21. Can't say I saw this coming. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2010/news/story?id=5002750 Seems to have put his past behind him? Young right-handed bat with a ton of power. Still raw. What kind of comparison do we get between him and Gerut?
  22. At this point I think it's better to keep Inglett up and send Heether down to get more work so we can keep both of them. Keeping Heether and sending Inglett would result in Inglett being claimed I assume, and I'd rather keep the depth as they are pretty much equal at this point. I'd rather have Heether for the long haul obviously, but I want them both for this season.
  23. I got 4 bleacher seats as well. Pretty cool promotion for the Crew. Very smart to sell out this first homestand (would have happened anyway?) to get the ball rolling on hopefully another 3 million person season.
