  1. I think it's more tongue in cheek than anything. Ned Yost always talked on the grittiness of Kendall and Counsell... so a lot of regulars here make fun of that and add some other players from around the league into the discussion and Eckstein is the first to be mentioned.
  2. I know a lot of posters here love David Eckstein and think that a middle infield combo of Counsell and Eckstein would be the greatest crime fighting team in the history of the earth. I ran across this video while looking at the footage of Gwynn Jr. and his debut in San Diego... check out the play Eckstein makes. Find the video marked as "Eckstein loses the ball in the lights"... the legend continues. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/ga...b_sdnmlb_1&mode=wrap
  3. I also think we should be giving Tony Gwynn Jr a big thank you for having a nice start this year at AAA to make him tradeable. I'm not sure if he was batting .226 that the Padres would have made the deal.
  4. I'm going to go ahead and give Doug Melvin some props for another reason. Melvin has been known as a GM who likes to let guys go if they may have a better career opportunity somewhere else. In this case... obviously Tony Gwynn wasn't going to be a getting much of a major league chance from this point on in Milwaukee... and if there was a place he would feel most comfortable going... it was obviously San Diego. Considering he is going to be able to get major league playing time from the get go... it's great. Also, I read that he got the news he was traded from his father on the phone. I thought that was cool.
  5. so assuming it is Gerut... and assuming he stays on the big leugue club... are we assuming Duffy is the unlucky casualty, replacing Gwynn in AAA? Or have we seen the last of Julio?
  6. That sounds about right. SD gets the prodigal son, and the Brewers get a left-handed Duffy. Eh, if nothing else, TGJ deserves a shot in SD.Duffy is left-handed...
  7. I'm just going to throw a little gas on the DeRosa rumors... http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=264&f=2046&t=4345895
  8. That's funny... because when I first heard the Brewer's made a transaction... the very first thing in my head was Kelly Johnson. Great minds think alike!
  9. It's a step closer to bringing back the mug. That is how I am choosing to read into this.
  10. Cool. Thanks for the clarification. And I just looked it up and Grudz is a B... not an A. What would he cost?
  11. When is the deadline for when signing a free agent stops costing you draft picks? Cause I'm sure Grudz is at least a type B. I could be entirely wrong... but for some reason June 1st sticks in my head. I know this was brought up with Sheets in the off-season. So yeah, I guess my point is that Grudz might cost us some draft picks.
  12. Brewers lead the league in "quality starts" ... and yes, I know how many on this board loathe that "stat".
  13. Best of luck. It's tough just to lose a quality depth option like this without compensation... but the Brewers had to make a tough choice. We are looking like a team that is going to contend for the playoffs and we need to pile up as many wins now as possible... and those pinch hitting spots late in games are crucial. There was a void there that needed to be filled...
  14. Bobby Cox did it last year with a reliever... not sure if the rule is different with starters. But you are also then losing McClung for the game... and you are losing Corey Hart for the game in the switch. Still a funny scenario though. Oh, and if we could set up two fights (ultimate or boxing, I'm not opposed to either) between Counsell and Eckstein... and hold one at each of our ballparks, and the teams split the profits from ticket sales... we could stand to make a fortune. I think this idea needs some more development.
  15. Exactly. Not that I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving Defilice in to finish up leading by two... but these first 3 months of the season you really need to just pile up as many wins as you can. Worry about opponents later. Also, Hoffman didn't break 25 total pitches Tuesday and Wednesday combined... so pitching him 3 days in a row wasn't insane by any stretch I don't think. Nonetheless, would have been nice to have won by 4 or 5 and not had this decision... but still, good win! Just make sure we win tomorrow by half a dozen so we don't have to worry http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. At this rate... Hoffman may be at 600 saves by the all-star break. What a great signing so far. Sweep! Well done Crew.
  17. Does Macha let Gamel swing for DiFelice here? Give the crowd a little juice prior to Trevor time? Or does he let Trevor rest for the road and let DiFelice finish it? *edit* Welcome to Milwaukee Gamel... put a charge into one.
  18. I wonder how much, if any, the attendance will spike today because of Gamel's promotion. Maybe that's the secret reason for the call-up http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I hope Macha gives the fans a quick rise and lets Gamel take a couple swings today. Go Crew!
  19. I've been chuckling to myself the last few weeks... because a bench of Counsell, Rivera, Gross, Kapler, and Branyan would be perfect. *sigh*
  20. Mike Cameron is the biggest change fellas. We didn't have him the first 25 of last year. Also.. you can't say our pitching has dropped off because of Sabathia... we didn't get him until summer.
  21. That is a good point with how negative people got on Yost last year. I didn't like the move either. He said he wanted to load the lineups with righties... and McGahee has outfield experience doesn't he? Him in left makes more sense. Also, with the way Hall has been playing third... I think it's weird to move him off that corner. But yeah, back to your original question.. I think people would have called for Yost's firing last year had he done the same thing.
  22. For his sake... I hope the Brewers really bust open a game here in the near future and Corporan gets a chance to get a few at bats... just in case this really is it for him. Good for him though.
  23. purchase Rottino's contract?
  24. And I doubt you are one of the people who most of us are talking to... but if you enter a room and look at the score and say "Does Bush have a no-no going?" ... I would nod at you. That is cool. But I would say you are in the wrong if you would then turn to me after the next fly out and say "Yes! A NO-HITTER THROUGH 6 1/3! HE ONLY HAS 8 MORE OUTS TO GO!" ... and repeat that for every out. It doesn't bother me that you don't have that superstitious side as I'm sure it doesn't bother you if someone else does... but if you can avoid the references to make the game more enjoyable for someone else, and it doesn't effect you... why wouldn't you? That is my point...
