  1. I don't see a match. What do the Brewers have that the Rockies realistically need?
  2. I know shoulda, coulda, woulda, but the Crew could've taken all three vs the Dodgers. They went toe to toe with one of the best teams in the NL and looked legit against them. Starting pitching has been really good over the last couple weeks.
  3. I agree. It's a good thing that we care so much about the bullpen at this point, as that means other things are going well. I liked the Feliz signing. It obviously hasn't worked out. The pen as a whole walks too many. I think Drake and Peralta still have something to offer. I'd be in favor of removing Feliz, Hughes, and Torres, although I think Torres would still have a fair shot to work things out to be decent. I'd really like to see what Hader can provide and one of the other guys mentioned previous, maybe Archer or Ramsey.
  4. Yep, he's done a nice job with the team, but he completely over thought this one.... or something
  5. Can't miss chances like that. At least they made him face 5, I guess.
  6. Kind of excited for this one. Overall, I know it doesn't mean much but in my mind I'd like to pretend it's a playoff game. Win or lose Kershaw is a joy to watch, though I'd be happy to see an early exit.
  7. Agreed. I think he's being sold a bit short by some. He's still only 24, and has room to improve. Improved defense along with increasing his FB% by 10% and you'd be looking at an all-star.
  8. At this point they're probably more valuable to the Brewers than what somebody would be willing to give up. I mean, never say never on anybody but for now while they are playing well it's nice to have them both as backup catcher doesn't feel like a wasted roster spot.
  9. I would like to see Jimmy Nelson shifted to the bullpen with Peralta. I know he just had a decent start his last time out but I don't really see a future for him to stick as a reliable starter. Also would like to see Hader start his career in the pen. He can learn on the job and provide some help in an area of need without the pressure if starting. Can also limit his innings if they think it's necessary.
  10. It's possible, but the Brewers pitching is soo bad it'll take some internal improvements by way of role shifting/promotions to get things respectable. They'd really need to get the pitching somewhere towards the middle of the pack to have a real shot. The offense is legit. There will be slumps with the swing and miss in their game but the versatility of the group I think maybe can negate some of that by being able to play more of the hot bats. Peralta and Nelson should be moved to the pen to see if their stuff can play there. There are multiple arms in the system that could replace their rotation spot and be no worse. Jason Vargas might be a nice target, IF down the road they were able to fill some gaps internally. Reality is, there's probably just too many holes pitching wise to really make buying at the deadline a good idea. It's nice that we're having the conversation though.... things are looking up
  11. Would like to see Peralta and Nelson moved to the pen. They have had the opportunity to make adjustments to be a viable starter and they just aren't. It's time to see if their stuff can play up in the pen. Bring up Woodruff and Wilkerson to fill their spots in the rotation Send two of Marinez, Scahill and Drake back down.
  12. I've seen it mentioned a few times now, but I can't envision a scenario where the Brewers are trading Braun after the May deadline. By almost all accounts he doesn't want to leave. To me, it's now or never. I still don't see the need for the Dodgers but if they were truly interested, I think Buehler is a fair deal. He won't really be ready to pitch a meaningful amount of innings at MLB for another 2 years, if he even progresses that far. Quite frankly, with the Dodgers pocket book and their already fairly deep farm system, giving up Buehler is really a drop in the bucket for them. I get not parting with Bellinger or Alvarez, but parting with somebody with an injury history who is at least a couple years away from being able to contribute for a team that is wanting to win now shouldn't be a big deal.
  13. How about they just enforce what the rules are instead of changing them. If umpires are calling balls off the bottom of the zone then, they need to be retrained. There is already almost no upper part of the strike zone with the way it's called; you can't barely throw it above the belt anymore and it's a ball. So they want to take away even more from the pitchers? Just reclaiming the WHOLE strike zone would speed up the game. I reaallllyy realllly hate when pro leagues try to modify rules, when in fact the issue they are trying to address has nothing to do with what they are trying to change. Games are longer because they spend a heck of a lot of time between innings and during pitching changes. Shrinking the strike zone will only make the games longer. Players are not suddenly going to make more contact by moving the zone from the bottom of the knee to the top. They actually are contradicting themselves with the proposed changes. How can you say, you wan't faster games but more contact and action? A baseball game doesn't have a time limit. There's a reason. Just let it be.
  14. Interesting. I think some hybrid of that might work or be worth trying; maybe the 5th spot in the rotation. I think a full 3-3-3 schedule would be too rigid when accounting for pitchers throwing well or poorly on a particular day, but I could completely see this viable to fill out the 5th spot in the rotation instead of paying the cost of an avg. FA pitcher or rotating guys through to see who sticks.
  15. Agreed. If I'm a fan of either team I'm happy. The Dodgers fill a need and deal from some depth. Tampa doing what they do, acquiring young pitching.
  16. I was surprised to see anybody wanted Straily enough to trade for him. Decent for both sides. He can be a back end rotation filler I guess. I believe if the Brewers wanted they could get similar returns for any of Anderson, Nelson or Peralta. I would think both Peralta and Nelson could generate a better return than Straily if they were actively being shopped. I'm guessing the potential of them making the necessary adjustment or two needed or slotting them into the bullpen is more valuable to the Brewers this season than dealing them for a modest return.
  17. I'm actually pretty optimistic for this season. Maybe not playoff contender optimistic but I think they can challenge for a .500ish record and be a tough game for any team with their athleticism on the bases and on defense. They really do have the potential for an above average offense if Braun is still on the roster, Villar and Broxton continue where they left off, Santana starts hitting fly balls, and Thames comes close to his new projection, etc. They just don't have the pitching to really turn the corner yet. Even in a smallish sample, you can't fake exit velocity. That's real and elite. I'm optimistic about Broxton continuing his progression and becoming a really nice player. There's still too much swing and miss in his game but even if he can maintain 80% of what he achieved last year, that's a nice player.
  18. Depends on what they'd want in return. Gray is not an ace, even at his best and I get the feeling they'd want that type of return. You never know though, he'd be worth asking about.
  19. I don't know that there's any ahead or behind a trend right now. He for sure has targeted athletic, fast, versatile position players. So far, that seems to be paying dividends. I'm not sure it's so much a trend but he has shown a willingness to acquire controllable talent at any age, whereas some GMs rebuilding might solely focus on the young top 100 type talent. He also seems to be taking a quantity over perceived quality approach, where he makes sure he's getting multiple players back in any deal. I really cannot say enough good things about what DS and his staff have done so far. There really seems to be a strategy and plan, which I don't think can be said of all front offices. I'm happy they aren't trapped in the half-committed towards rebuilding or competing approach.
  20. The downside is the opportunity cost of not allowing a younger, controllable pitcher a shot at the closer's role in a year when having a closer won't be that important. I don't think that downside is worth the upside of whatever it is you may or may not get for Feliz in July. Agree with the opportunity cost. Although this would be better than the proposed Holland deal even if it's just a one year contract. But I agree, the upside of what he could return at the deadline is being overstated. I'd say the max return could be similar to Rodney or Melancon, and he'll have to close and be great. The opportunity to have one of our younger guys with more years of control pitch in those higher leverage situations and create value should definitely be a consideration. On the other hand, the market has shown it values hard throwing elite relievers. Feliz is still young enough to potentially still have some untapped potential. If he can reign in his control or figure out how change one of his pitches to either generate more ground balls or more swings and misses he could elevate himself to elite status. In a vacuum, for this year's team I would actually like the move. It's always at least more interesting/entertaining to have guys coming out of the pen that can run it up there at 95-96 or so.
  21. I voted the middle one as my favorite. The flag one was good as well, just personal preference. I think the icon one is creative jut not to my taste. It might be cool if they chose a handful of those icons and scattered them and then randomized the color of the shirt and the color of the BREWERS and icon screening.... probably outside of the budget constraints of this giveaway though.
  22. Holland's supposed terms sound like somebody who's not overly confident in his own ability to come back and be effective. I'd pass if somebody's willing to offer the opt-out. He's basically wanting an insurance policy and wants the team to take on the risk of allowing him to work himself back to relevancy. Yes, I'd say the Brewers would only be looking as a flip candidate but with the opt-out clause any return would be pretty minimal, and that's assuming he's pitching well. There are still plenty of good relievers that will deliver more value for the $, IMO, especially if reports of his fastball only sitting in the high 80's during his workouts are true.
