  1. I think Arizona could make sense, although they have a bit of a crowded OF at the time. If you're the Marlins why stop now? I think he gets moved. Unfortunately, the Yankees make a lot of sense and probably have enough to get him if they wanted. I have no idea what it would take to get him but he's a generational type talent who's just getting started in this league. Put him out there and watch the bidding begin!
  2. Interesting thought. I like the idea from the Brewers perspective. I guess it depends on how badly the Royals want to shed Francouer and weather or not the Brewers think he'd act professionally in a bench role. He seems like a guy that would be more willing than others in similar positions in their career. I get the feeling the Royals are tossing Crow and Holland out there to try and get a legit starter out of somebody. I think they'd be more interested if Fiers or Estrada were on the table.
  3. So you're saying there's a chance! Still probably got to win 15 of the last 19 with the other teams involved but it sure makes things entertaining at least.
  4. Yes, this all clearly Roenicke's fault. He was a much better manager last season. Dusty Baker has made some big strides and is now one of the best in baseball!
  5. Yeah, DFA everyone out there save for Ax and bring up some other arms. It's not like any of those guys have ANY trade value and none of them are throwing well. We have a minor league system for a reason right? Give some career minor league guys their shot. At this point anything would be better. There's really nobody that you'd expect back anyway so why not? It's become embarrassing. What a great way to hold players accountable: fire their coach!
  6. Hart for Masterson is an interesting thought. If some of our young pitchers hadn't shown any ability I'd be all over that deal however I'm a little reluctant because of what Fiers, Estrada, Thornburg, and Rogers have all shown. On the right day, I'd make the deal. It would be nice to have another guy we could just pencil into the rotation next year. Masterson is either a drop in BB% or tick up in K% from being a 1-2 type stater. He's youngish yet so that could come. He seems like a guy the Cardinals would trade for and go on to win 40 games over the next two seasons.
  7. I doubt any more large deals happen. I think they Brewers feel like they can compete again next year. There's not a power house team in the NL so it's possible they could even without Greinke. I'm not sure what to think. As it stands right now I think their offense can compete, however their pitching will need an upgrade. I wouldn't mind dangling Hart, who by the way I think is severely underrated. If made available he would likely be the best bat on the market.
  8. Feel exactly the same way. Sounds like both pitchers can run it up close to 100. Better teach those kids some control before the kill somebody!
  9. It is very GM's and Owner's MO to completely rebuild. What teams have really done this? The Astros are currently doing it and Oakland has kind of done it. Have we seen the complete rebuild work well? I am asking because I just dont know. If I were Braun there is no way I would want to waste my prime on a team that doesnt have any hope at all. The prospects for Gallardo would have to be really close to the majors not A ball guys I would say the Rays did it. I'm not sure they intended to do it by being flat awful for so many years but that's how it worked. Houston seems to be down the same path. Stock piling lower level minors players and just letting their MLB roster suck for high picks. I would say the Royals and Indians current rosters are that of very close to being complete rebuilds over the last 5-6 years. The Orioles finally decided a few years back they were done playing the 'lets see what over priced free agent we can sign to be average' game and have moved in the right direction with most of their own young talent. I'm not sure you could say decisively that a complete rebuild works. You better have the right people in place and pick the correct players or you can be horrible for a long time if your draft picks bust and you trade away your only talent for busted prospects. If you miss too many times you'll have no talent to restock with. See Pittsburgh and the Royals from about the mid-1990's to last season. It beats trying to get to .500 every year though. At least if you have a bunch of new young guys every year you feel like there's hope.
  10. Gallardo is my favorite Brewer right now so I'd be disappointed if he left. That said, he has immense value and I'd definitely listen. Say they bring back a couple young starters for Greinke and then get blown away with an offer for Hart and move him for a young arm. Now you have the making of some pitching depth, albeit young and inexperienced, that maybe you consider moving Gallardo. I think right now he could bring back Profar. Maybe if the Angels land Greinke the Brewers could come back to Texas and start talking Gallardo? Right now I'd offer him straight up for Wil Myers. It would take a ton to move him right now. He's going to have to be the ace of the staff next year and while it doesn't seem likely he still has time to become a true ace type.
  11. Man, I'm so impatient at this point. I just want to hear that something's close so we can write another 70 pages on how great or awful the deal is. I'm really starting to believe the Brewers will come out with a very strong deal from either Texas or L.A. It's really brewing into a perfect scenario with the division rivals possibly competing for Greinke. Talk all you want about the other possible starters, but Greinke IS the best available option for the teams that are serious about a large upgrade at starting pitcher and making a deep push in the play-offs.
  12. Not saying it isn't true, but that seems odd to me.
  13. IF the Andrus rumor? is true it does kind of make sense. It's certainly a gamble for Texas but it's also a gamble for them to head to the playoffs without more pitching than what they have, even though they're still likely the best team in baseball with or without a pitching upgrade. From the Brewers end, I would rather see some players with more control coming back but it's hard to not like that level of talent in return. I'd also find it hard to believe if he was offered a contract similar to Reyes, right now, that he wouldn't accept.
  14. Yeah, I think that sounds like more of an offer the Brewers would put on the table as a standing offer and say Olt and Perez and you can have him right now, no more bidding. Probably the same with Teheran, Machado, or Profar.
  15. Make it Sellers instead of Gordon and we'll call it a deal!
  16. Who cares? This season is trashed anyways. No need to lower ZG's trade value by letting him implode in the 8th. Time to start rebuilding. I always love this argument. Yes, who cares about wins. We can't make the playoffs - or it's unlikely - so lets just completely give up. Sounds like something someone who never played competitive sports said. Ahh, the "you must have never played.." argument. Nice angle. For better or worse this is a game with an owner and an entire franchise, not just one team playing trying to win one game. I get the passion to want to win each game but the other side of the coin is the passion to want this team to stay competitive and play meaningful games now and in the future. Just about any other night I'd agree with you but tonight is an exception.
  17. Actually, I thought it was fairly foolish to send him out after the 5th or so. He's turned down a contract (supposedly) and they're going to trade him. Why risk a freak accident and injury to your biggest trade chip. Thank you Zack, it's been fun.
  18. Wow. This bullpen has become a joke! I'm glad we're so far out of the race because otherwise I'd be livid right now. As it stands I just hope we start moving some pieces for next year and beyond and maybe get to see some different arms out there.
  19. Well, what needed to happen, did. I expect Zack to be gone by tomorrow evening. It would be foolish for the Brewers to pitch him again. Let the bidding begin!
  20. Stanton. I think you make a fair point. Generally a high strike out rate can be a cause for concern when transitioning to the majors but I wouldn't say that it eliminates a player from ending up a high end hitter. Olt does look to have a decent walk rate so that negates some of the K%. Also, I think there is less emphasis on being a contact hitter now days so it's possible that if he needed to make contact more often he could.... but why at this point, especially if it might negate some of his power. I'm not saying he's THE guy the Brewers should target. I have no info besides internet scouting reports but he does seem like a logical target who MLB people seem to be pretty high on.
  21. Agreed. Especially now with Lewis going down. As others have stated, I think it will only take a few innings from Greinke tonight to solidify in other GM's minds that he's not injured. It wouldn't surprise me to see him pulled early and traded tonight somewhere.
  22. They might match fairly well given Melvin's potential desire for MLB ready guys. Maybe guys like Detwiler, Tyler Moore, Rendon, Lombardozzi.
  23. That's a nice return for the Cubs. Actually, Delgado wouldn't have been a bad return for Greinke either. I keep reading reports that the Brewers haven't really decided if they're selling. Really? I also don't think that this deal sets the bar for a Greinke deal. Every team has their own bar IMO. If teams start offering up starters with service time such as Garza, Shields, etc the market for Greinke may dry up in a hurry.
  24. I think he's a legit 4-5 type starter, which is quite valuable. I think he'll regress some as the league adjusts. He may want to tap Marcum for all his knowledge before he leaves. Maybe he all ready has. With all that has gone wrong with this season the bright spots for me have been the pitching of Fiers and Estrada. It's nice going into next season feeling like they have 3 capable starters without figuring in any internal or external additions.
