  1. I think they will bring the most back by trading him at the deadline this year and for some reason I think he ends up with the Rays. Hellickson + ? I think perhaps this is the year the Rays pull a CC type move like the Brewers did except on the offensive end. Slide him into the DH role and that team is better than both the Yankees and Red Sox (if they're not all ready). Financially they are in the same boat as Milwaukee, but their talent is far superior and they have a legit chance to win it all if they can force out Boston and/or New York.
  2. For the most part I'll root for anyone in a home uni. I suppose it would make things a little less satisfying winning with players you flat out just don't like. There's only a few attributes I really can't stand. 1. I don't like lazy players, but I don't think I can designate a player as lazy by watching him for a few hours during a game and not seeing his off-season work ethic so I'm not sure what players I would put in that category without some inside info. 2. Players who bring negative/undeserving attention to themselves or the team and can't back it up come game time. 3. Spoiled brat players who think the world revolves around them and that the sport they play owes them something. Players who dictate what team they will play for even though they haven't accomplished anything. Sheffield comes to mind, although he was young and immature at the time. Eli Manning. With regard to Suppan and Hart, I'll root for both of them. It's not Suppan's fault the team simply won't release him. Hart is a bit more frustrating because he seems to have alot of physical ability. I really thought he was going to be a Matt Kemp type by now, but things just don't seem to click for him. Perhaps a lot of physical ability but not as much baseball ability as I once thought. I have a hard time rooting for Jim Edmonds. I'm not sure if it's the Cubs-Cards past or what. I just don't think he belongs on this team, but I don't dislike him because I think he's a jerk. (that's not to say he is or isn't, I just don't know)
  3. Ahh, impressive!! Good thing there's 155 left to play. At least we won't have to see Suppan this series.
  4. Maybe it's collusion of the athletes to not accept a pay cut? Look, if you're good enough to play and willing to play for what you're worth some team will pay you. I guess it's just hard for some players to realize past doesn't equal present.
  5. I try to be an optimist so I'm looking forward to quite a bit. Watching Gomez and Escobar in the field on a daily basis. Gallardo turning from very good to stud. Wondering if Prince and Braun have peaked yet, I think they can actually get better. Watching some of the other young talent in the division: Votto, McCutchen, Wandy, Cueto, Rasmus etc. Listening to Ueck call the game that clinches a World Series berth. We'll actually I hope to be there, but it's good to have a backup plan.
  6. One of each please!! We really have a 1st rate owner now who realizes that going to the game is more than just the product on the field. Ballpark prices are still insanely high, but if enough attention to detail is made people won't notice it quite as much. Please keep this team for a long time Mark A! Might I add some suggestions: Brewers pre-loadable debit cards with an option to automatically deduct tips. I suppose passing cash back and forth is kind of part of the ball park experience though. The Alcides Esco-Bar. A silky smooth chocolate bar in the shape of a glove with gold foil wrapper. The Kingdom Box. Includes toasted ravioli, mozz sticks, and the cheese steak sandwich http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif in a box with Prince's likeness and number.
  7. This is getting ridiculous. There's not much left to be said. They're just looking for every excuse to keep him around. What good does the DL really do? If he's pitching a simulated game I find it hard for him to legitimately be hurt. Great, let's DL him so we can have the same situation 15 days from now. If at some point we really need another starter Villy, Vargas, or Narveson/Parra can fill in. If we're down 2 then it's pretty hopeless anyway. C'mon Doug, just break up with him all ready. Yes, break ups are tough but you'll get over it and realize there are many more fish in the sea. You're going to have to do this face to face Doug. Three years is too long for a text message or phone call. Don't spend the rest of your life wondering "What if?" Sorry, just felt like I've been through this before. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. While Suppan for Snyder might make some sense I think I'd pass. It essentially seems like extending Suppan's contract into next season. I like Zaun+Kottaras as much as Snyder not even considering salary. Add in the salary and I think it negates any potential value. Maybe it would be worth it if he'd be penciled in to start next year but hopefully either Salome or Lucroy will be ready by then.
  9. If it is truly a battle/competition then Narveson should have a spot in the rotation and I'd say the final spot is still a toss up between Bush and Parra. As far as Suppan is concerned he should just be cut. Why compound a negative situation. He's not even really deserving of a roster spot at this point. Let one of the younger guys or Carlos V. have that spot. They can try to play it out as a financial decision, but what if Suppan pitching costs them a game(s) and a chance at a play-off spot. Now, how much money is that costing? Sure it's not likely, but the guy is just plain not good at this point in his career. Please Doug, swallow your pride on this one and it could be the most important roster decision you make all year.
  10. Actually I suppose the rest of the Central Division would be unhappy. It's all starting to make sense now.
  11. What?? Three quality starters for a third baseman that can't run?? We should at least get Price out of them too.
  12. Hopefully it's only sending Villy down. I'm not sure that would make a lot of people upset. Depends what he means by a lot. Maybe he's positioning himself to cut Suppan. One can hope, right?? I just hope it's not something goofy like cutting Narveson or optioning Parra or Gomez.
  13. He doesn't seem very committed to the idea of being a role player with a team first type attitude. He really shouldn't start ever in CF on this team and I can see him whining for playing time. I really wish Ojelton would've made the team instead. As others have pointed out this just doesn't seem like a good fit.
  14. I'm hate to make a judgement on the guy, but what 57 year old just says hey I think I'll try coke today. Not too likely this is an isolated incident. I hope he gets the help he needs.
  15. Interesting. I don't think I want him. He's still young and has time to reform himself so to speak. There's a time when a person just needs to grow up, hopefully he reaches that point because he certainly has some talent. On a good team with some proven veteran leadership he might do all right, but I thought the same thing about Milton Bradley and that didn't turn out so good in Chicago.
  16. Does Narveson's performance lock up a rotation spot for him? I realize there's two weeks left and its pre-season and it's the Royals, but the guy has piggybacked an impressive Spring on a solid last month of last season.
  17. After reading the writeup, I also wondered the same thing. His NBA numbers actually seemed pretty decent all ready, albeit in pre-season and limited action, but still. Seems like a guy that would fit right in. A big bodied low post type presence that can grab some boards and bring some intensity. Yes, please!
  18. I completely agree. Most likely all of them will end up starting a few games throughout the season. Too much starting pitching is never a problem. I'd like to see Parra and Narveson round out the rotation. Narveson probably deserves it after his strong finish last season and a clean start thus far to the pre-season. I can't say Parra deserves to, but if the Brewers are going to make some big noise this year they need him to reach his potential (although I'm not so sure what that is anymore). I'm not concerned about all the lefties either. Righty or lefty you stick your best guys out there.
  19. Maybe if an extension was all ready in place for Prince to sign with Boston they'd give both, but if it's just to have him for a year and lose their CF and a strong armed pitching prospect I don't think they risk it.
  20. Kevin Slowey, Pablo Sandevol, Jacoby Ellsbury, and for some weird reason David DeJesus. Hopefully after this year Alcedes Escobar.
  21. I think things will play out as we get towards the end of spring training as far as injuries and such. The Brewers do probably have room for everyone even without an injury. I can see Cappy, Halama and Villy all at AAA to start the season. Most of the teams are in the same position as the Brewers right now with what seems like extra pitching. I also agree that Bush is one of the best 5 the Brewers have so to trade him doesn't make alot of sense from a baseball standpoint. From a financial standpoint maybe, but I have a suspicion that the 4 million or so would not seem like a big price tag come the middle of the season when they're trying to scape up a pitcher to get them to the end of the season after some injuries. I have to believe the team is O.K. with the payroll going forward as now doesn't seem the time to try and rework things. Maybe a team will lose a pitcher due to injury before the season and be mildly interested in Suppan if the Brewers pay almost the entire salary. Although if you're not good enough to start for the team with one of the worst ERAs in the league then I doubt many other teams are interested. I hope they choose to not get complicated with the situation and just cut him. To throw in a prospect to play less money for another team to take him seems like compounding a mistake. Would another team even give any kind of prospect in return even if the Brewers paid most of his salary? As for what they could get for Bush, I'm not sure either. Maybe a low-level mid-tier type prospect.
  22. Good move for both. Upton gets rich now. Although he was probably all ready set for life; I didn't realize he had a $6 million signing bonus. The team buys out 2 years of arbitration and free agency probably at a discount rate for a potentially great player. The other thing it does is if they decide down the road that they'd like to try and trade him for whatever reason he'll pretty much fit into any team's budget.
  23. Thanks for the input. Right now I'm leaning towards TW, as all the wiring is all ready in the house. I haven't personally had any negative experiences with them, although I haven't needed them much besides the install. Seems like a less risky proposition at this point. Hopefully the faster internet speed will allow a better mlbtv experience if I choose to go that route.
  24. I'm in the Green Bay area and am looking to get cable/dish. I haven't had it for 6-7 years. Sad, I know. I'm interested in Internet and TV. From my research it looks like TW is cheaper by about $20/month for similar programing and with faster Internet. By similar programing I really only mean FSN and ESPN http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. Anybody feel like talking me into one or the other? Quality, customer service experiences, etc. Thanks.
  25. I agree. I think the best deal for Fielder might be had at the trade deadline as opposed to the off-season. The issue is that hopefully the Brewers are (and they should be) competitive enough to be in contention for a play-off spot. I think we'll be hard pressed to flush out any major prospect for Fielder in the off-season for a one year rental. Especially, when they can just buy him after the season and give nothing. However, teams get more desperate/hopeful near the end of the season and can be more willing to part with some of their young talent when they're closer to the end of the season. I'm really starting to feel that if the Brewers are confident in their scouting dept. they may as well just keep him 2 seasons and take the comp. picks when he leaves.
