  1. No, If you are trading someone like Burnes you don't want someone who has already burnt some time unless they are still rookie eligible see Baty as an example. If a player already has 1-year of service time then they have to be someone who is signed long term and a team is not going to give up that type of a player. Teams are not going to subtract from their roster during the deadline especially if it is a player who is contributing for that team. At best you are looking at AA maybe AAA players. Trading any player you are looking at 1-2 years down the road best case scenario and realistically it is 3-5 years away or never. I don't really think Baty would be available but it is the Mets so you never know with them. The best options for a Burnes trade are the Yankees, Phillies, Dodgers and Mets. The Guardians are an interesting team but I don't see them making that type of a trade. A surprise team could be the D-backs but I think they are another year or two away from competing. It really is only a four team competition for Burnes if the Brewers decide to trade him at the deadline. The Phillies make the most sense with Painter or Abel as the main piece going to the Brewers with a few lower level prospects. The Dodgers are a close second with the Mets and Yankees being distant 3rd and 4th. The only other team would be the Orioles and you are looking more at a player who is 2-4 years away in Holliday.
  2. Fun to watch play out now but it won't be in 5-years for Padres fans when their payroll dips to whatever they owe to Machado, Darvish, Tatis, and Bogaerts and they drop to a 80-win team. The narrative will change if the Padres don't win a championship in the next 5-years from fun to how stupid they were and are. This could be the next Vernon Wells deal for the Padres here.
  3. That is way too optimistic. You could maybe get one but not both. The Phillies are probably the best match for the Brewers. Something like Painter and a couple of other prospects. That would be the best option for the Brewers. Otherwise I think something like Baty, Ramirez, Tidwell and Ziegler makes sense from the Mets. A deadline deal with the Orioles probably starts with Holliday but after him there really isn't much that I like with the Orioles prospect wise. The Orioles are really thin in pitching prospects and I don't see DL Hall as much of a prospect at all. A throw in for Burnes sure but not someone I would want to include as a major piece. The Phillies are the best team to trade Burnes to as they have a really good pitcher in Painter. Even if all you get is Painter and a few throw ins that is more than enough for Burnes. If you want to go on the offensive side then the Mets make the most sense. Someone I would really like to get is Blaze Jordan from the Red Sox. I am not sure there is a trade there but he is someone to watch for in the next couple of years. He has a lot of power but he looks to be a 1B or DH only. He doesn't have the arm strength nor the quickness to stay at 3B.
  4. Badgers are basically eliminated from the tourney with this loss.
  5. The reason why these owners were chosen was because right now if a new CBA had to be written the owners wouldn't be able to even vote on a CBA as they don't have a majority. This is a play for the next CBA to try and get enough owners in agreement so they can actually submit a proposal to the players.
  6. Yeah the teams are going to have to buyback their rights on that one. If it goes to Chapter 7 that is a liquidation which means creditors will try to get whatever they can for the rights.
  7. No not blaming them just stating a fact about most of the tech layoff people who were in high paying jobs. Most are using their severance pay on vacations where some haven't taken one in a long time. The younger Millennials and the two Z's that I work with are not really interested in Hawaii they see it as an old people vacation spot. They prefer Mexico, Miami, Nashville, LA and the Caribbean over Hawaii. Small sample and all that other stuff yes I know.
  8. The Athletic article touches on a salary cap but that is dead on arrival. MLB tried to put in low cap but they didn't provide enough details and lowered the ceiling a lot in one of their CBA proposal. The MLBPA obviously rejected it but from the response from the MLBPA I don't think they would approve a cap at all as they want to eliminate the soft cap. The floor would be really high probably something around $150m and the ceiling being somewhere around $300m for the MLBPA to accept a salary cap.
  9. Severance package from the tech companies money is being spent on travel.
  10. Forums have mostly died since reddit has come along. Younger people prefer reddit over forums. I am going to assume the age range for this forum and ones like it are in the 35+ range. Forums have gone the mIRC route and are dying as the user base has died off. For Marquette I haven't visited this board in forever but they are decent: https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?board=2.0
  11. It was spent on payroll. If you look at the Brewers payroll history there are only 3-years where payroll had dipped below the previous year by a significant amount. In 2004 payroll went down $13m, 2011 it went down $10m and in 2016 it went down $41m. In 2017 and 2018 payroll jumped $27m and $32m. Payroll also jumped $32m last year.
  12. Is this a serious question? The answer is an emphatic yes. It is all about the clicks! Weird Al should do a parody of It's All About the Benjamins but rename it to It's All About the Clicks.
  13. That is why I said apparently.
  14. A fun pointless topic. I think this one got it pretty good other than the Miller Park part. Here is the song. Verse 1: From the banks of the Milwaukee River Comes a team that makes us shiver They play with heart, they play with pride With every win, they take us for a ride Chorus: The Milwaukee Brewers, they're the cream of the crop They give us hope, they give us all we've got From Miller Park to the streets of Milwaukee They show us all what a team can be Verse 2: The boys in blue and gold, they never quit They fight until the very last pitch With bats in hand and gloves on tight They give us a show every single night Chorus: The Milwaukee Brewers, they're the cream of the crop They give us hope, they give us all we've got From Miller Park to the streets of Milwaukee They show us all what a team can be Bridge: They've had their ups, they've had their downs But they always rise and wear the crown They've got the fans, they've got the heart They've got what it takes to make a new start Chorus: The Milwaukee Brewers, they're the cream of the crop They give us hope, they give us all we've got From Miller Park to the streets of Milwaukee They show us all what a team can be Outro: So let's cheer them on, let's make some noise Let's support the team that we all enjoy The Milwaukee Brewers, they're here to stay And they'll keep on playing, day after day.
  15. Apparently the Packers are disgusted with Rodgers and are done with him. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/02/17/report-packers-are-disgusted-with-aaron-rodgers-theyre-done-with-him/amp/
  16. Every year at the end of the year. While not an arbitration hearing corporate America has this year end review of what you have done and what you need to improve on. It can get really bad at times and people who have big egos or can't take criticism have absolute meltdowns. This also sets your pay for the next year every manager I have gone into a year end meeting will say things like I really like you and everything you do but I have to tear into you and why you are not getting the highest rating. This also impacts your raise and/or bonus.
  17. That looks to be accurate it is a really big parking lot and I believe they are counting the access road as part of the parking lot which I believe the Brewers have to pay for. That might be an under estimation it may come in closer to $10.5m than $9.3m.
  18. Large corporations no. I doubt the letter would even get to them maybe an email and that is probably going to get lost in a sea of emails. I get about 100+ emails a day and most go into folders I never look at. The likelihood of someone’s thank you email getting in one of my folders I don’t check is at a 90% chance.
  19. I don’t believe the Brewers will have a choice. It will be MLB making that choice.
  20. It would probably be Charlotte or Montreal to get that AAA franchise.
  21. That was a fun game!
  22. This happens all the time with corporations who lease office buildings. If renovations or changes need to be done to a building an estimate is put in on how much it would cost to renovate or make changes to the building that the company would want. The owners will then do the same assessment. If you don't do this then you are just taking your renters word that it will cost this much to do a renovation.
  23. The Rays will have a new stadium apparently and the A's well they will have a new one in Oakland or Las Vegas. Those are the only two teams that have a new stadium in the works. I think the Rockies and possibly the Dbacks are probably up for a new stadium soon also. The Dbacks have been unhappy with their stadium situation recently.
  24. The tech jobs the actual tech jobs that are being lost are being gobbled up by startups and financial institutions. These layoffs are not like the banking layoffs. The tech jobs translate to other jobs if you get laid off at Google or Twitter you can pick up a job easily in the financial sector. If you got laid off by a financial company in 2008 you were not going to find another job as easily. Inflation is still a problem and with the recent CPI numbers I wouldn't be surprised if the FED goes back to a 75BP hike.
  25. If he puts up a 130 OPS+ as a DH I think the Brewers offer him a QO at that point it is close to what the Brewers gave Grandal for 1-year $16m + 2m buyout.
