  1. Sounds made up. I wasn’t able to find anything on this, but I am on my phone at work so can’t really do that much research on it. I believe Boras is just covering up his screw up by advising Conforto not to take the QO. He is coming off a bad season. He was probably looking at a 1 or 2 year deal.
  2. It happens. Sometimes they are really good at it and can make it believable especially if you don’t look back at their history.
  3. I might be remembering incorrectly but don’t pitcher’s normally take longer to get into a groove in spring training? I thought this is why they report earlier with catchers so they can ramp up.
  4. The books I read are not allowed to be discussed here. I read a lot of books from Thomas Sowell and others mostly. I have been reading the graphic novel BRZRKR which has been good so far. This is written by Keanu Reeves well co-wrote by him and another Matt Kindt and illustrations done by Ron Garney
  5. Conforto won’t sign until after the draft because of the draft compensation that is tied to him.
  6. With 7-games left to play and all but the Pistons game being against Playoff teams this looks to be a very tight race for 1-4 seed. The Heat's final games are: at Boston, at Chicago, at Toronto, charlotte, Atlanta and at Orlando Sixers final games: at Detroit, Charlotte, at Cleveland, at Indiana, at Toronto, Indiana, Detroit Celtics final games: Miami, Indiana, Washington, at Chicago, at Milwaukee, at Memphis Bucks final games: at Brooklyn, LA, Dallas, at Chicago, Boston, at Detroit Must win games are LA, Dallas and Boston. I think the Bucks can lose 2 and still keep the 2nd seed. Really need to win the Boston game at home. Would also be nice to win the game in Brooklyn on Thursday. If the Bucks can win at Brooklyn and then beat the Clippers on Friday and hopefully the Celtics drop a game either against the Pacers or the Wizards but I wouldn't count on that happening. The next loss for the Celtics may not come until next week. The Celtics have the easiest schedule this weekend with the Pacers and Wizards. I think it is possible the Heat lose the #1 seed if they lose tomorrow night against the Celtics I think they will drop to the 3-seed. Hopefully the Bulls and Raptors can beat the Heat as that would guarantee the Heat as the 3 or 4 seed probably the 4 seed. Should be a fun and interesting last few games here.
  7. I am kind of bored of Vegas. Probably because I have been there so many times now. I am planning on going to Mexico or somewhere else next spring. I want to go to Nashville but every time I look at the hotel and flight packages it is like $1500-2200 and it is like that year round so far. Any other places to go? I can only travel in June of this year due to work commitments. I already have the money saved up for my trip next year and then some. I forgot to go and get my passport or I would have went this year to Mexico.
  8. I don't think the level of competition should really be an issue with WR. QB's sure but skill players I just can't get behind that. I believe Moss and Owens both had these same questions when they were drafted. Moss had some other baggage at the time which hurt his stock but still had the competition question attached to him. If the player can run, jump and catch I don't believe the competition is really going to matter. For a QB it is a little bit different as you can get away with mistakes that you wouldn't normally get away with in other conferences but for a WR there is very little that you can scrutinize there. You can say that the numbers would come down and they normally do even from players who are at a higher level of competition. I wouldn't be worried about competition when drafting a WR I am more looking at how well they cut, run routes and catch the ball. I would put the competition last or not even in consideration on determining which WR to draft over another. Competition matters when you are comparing stats but when comparing players on who you want to draft I don't think it matters at the skill positions.
  9. No but Manfred has stated a few times now that Montreal is at the top of the list to get an expansion team. There would have to be a new stadium built for the city to get a team but that is for every city really. All of the cities I mentioned would have to build a new stadium to get a team.
  10. But it is not. Adding up the value for Frelick, Wiemer, Mitchell, Quero and Turang only gets you to about $70m which leaves you about $10m short for Reynolds. If you add in Ashby that puts you at about $90m. So maybe not all of the 6 but pretty darn close to the top 6. If you start going lower from the top 6 you have to add more. So without Ashby for example to get to $80m in value you have to do the following: Frelick, Wiemer, Mitchell, Quero, Turang, Perez, Black and Small. That gets you to just above Reynolds current value. Reynolds is valued around $80-90m in trade value. I took the lower mark for this and that is what it would take to get Reynolds. The starting point at which the Marlins thought was ridiculous only included about $45m in trade value. The Marlins would have had to of added another $35m in trade value. Though I am thinking the Pirates saw a higher value in Watson and Meyer so probably closer to $60m but still a $20m gap. It is going to take a lot to get Reynolds from the Pirates. The Brewers haven't revisited a trade with the Pirates since the trading deadline and there is probably a reason for that. The price for Reynolds is too high and the Brewers have decided the price is not worth it.
  11. Missing Brooklyn in the 1st round would be the best outcome. The East is far deeper than the West is right now which is crazy because just 3 or 4 years ago it was the East that was a joke of a division with 2 or 3 top heavy teams and then everyone else. Right now the West looks to be the worst with 2 or 3 teams being better than everyone else in the West and it is not even close. If the Bucks can get the 1 seed that would be great but I would love to avoid Brooklyn if possible. Not that I am afraid of Brooklyn but that is at a minimum a 6 game series and is more than likely a 7 game series. That is a lot of games to play in the 1st round and will have an impact on the team advancing deeper into the playoffs.
  12. Not even close to enough. I think for a deal to work it would basically include all of the Brewers top 6 prospects. So basically Frelick, Wiemer, Ashby, Mitchell, Turang and Small/Quero/Black/H.Perez. I don't see the Pirates settling for anything less. There is a reason why a deal wasn't done during last years trade deadline and it is probably because the Pirates were asking for the moon, sun and stars.
  13. Nashville is probably a lock right now which then leaves either Charlotte, Las Vegas, Montreal or Mexico City. Yes Mexico City is in the running for a baseball team it is something that Manfred wants to do. I give Las Vegas the edge over all of the other cities. Vancouver has a 1% chance of happening it is too close to Seattle for it to work, Brooklyn has a better chance of getting a team than Vancouver does. I don't see MLB giving another Florida city a team if Jacksonville were to get a team it would be the Rays and the same for Charlotte. San Jose wouldn't be any better than Oakland so I don't see that city as even a remote possibility. If a team gets added in the west it will be either Austin, Las Vegas, Mexico City or Portland. In the East you have Brooklyn, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Montreal or Nashville. Right now Las Vegas and Nashville are the 1a and 1b options for MLB. Charlotte or Jacksonville could be the new home for the Rays if their stadium issues are not resolved. Las Vegas is probably the destination for the A's if their stadium situation is not resolved. The last I looked it looks like the A's will be staying in Oakland. If the Rays go to Charlotte then the expansion team in the east will be either Nashville or Montreal. If the A's stay in Oakland it will be Las Vegas but if the A's move to Vegas it will probably be Portland or Austin. I could see a scenario if the A's move to Las Vegas and the Rays move to Charlotte that MLB goes with Nashville and Montreal as the two new teams.
  14. Similar to my Bears draft but the Bears taking Chenal in round 2 along with a CB or WR. Also have Parham to the Bears in the 4th I think.
  15. Wow if he can command that pitch plus add another pitch that is some crazy stuff.
  16. LOL probably would.
  17. As a Bears fan this is what I think the Packers will do: On a more less trolling and serious version:
  18. The backup at PG for Jrue is 1200% times better than what they had last year. I think Carter, Wes and Ibaka is better than what the Bucks had last year and that is not downplaying what Tucker did for the Bucks last year on defense but those three I think are better and can provide as many or more meaningful minutes than Tucker did. Scoring wise I think Carter is underrated while he may not be a really good scorer I think he is better than Tucker and is just slightly below him defensively.
  19. What may make you question MLB even more is looking at the lowest spending teams in MLB compared to the NBA. I believe the bottom 3 add up to just above the lowest payroll team in the NBA. Granted there are the minors that teams pay for but how much is unknown and looking at the living conditions of the players it is not all that much. Maybe tack on another $10-15m for the minors and now you are looking at the bottom two adding up to the lowest team payroll in the NBA. The $10-15m to the minors is on the high side of a guess and is probably closer to $4-8m.
  20. Hill gets an extension also:
  21. I didn't see one for 2022 so just going to start one. Old man continues yelling at the clouds errr I mean Bernie Sanders has introduced another bill going after the MLB Anti-Trust exemption. https://theathletic.com/news/bernie-sanders-introduces-legislation-to-remove-mlbs-antitrust-protections/pVte4tAbEidq/ I am not sure the MLBPA is going to be happy with this. If MLB loses its anti-trust exemption there will be a salary cap instituted which means good bye to the fully guaranteed salaries. I think both MLB and the MLBPA are going to be fighting against MLB losing its anti-trust exemption.
  22. If you were doing this for work an application like Alteryx is a better option even R, Python or SAS would be better options if you want to go the coding route. If you needed more analysis you could then have Alteryx export the information as a hyper file which is what Tableau uses. Alteryx creates the hyper file which would then update your Tableau workbook.
  23. The only way to get a true professional minor league system is to completely drop the current one and build a new one. The new minor league system will be based on geographic region where all of the R-AAA will be housed. Preferably this would all be in one city or one or two states. The goal would be to make a complex kind of like an Olympic training area. It would suck for the current fans of the A-AAA teams to lose those teams but in the long run for the minor league players this would be the best option. I just don't see teams spending $10m+ in 5 plus cities when the return on investment wouldn't be all that high. It would make more financial sense to have the teams all in one general area. A central place to have all the minors would be ideal for this as a team could build all the housing and amenities that it would need in one area. I think the Brewers kind of have this as they could put their minor league teams in either Wisconsin or in Nashville. Though I would caution against Nashville as that is more than likely going to be a MLB team city at some point once expansion happens. MLB is not going to want to have a AAA team where an expansion team is going to be located at as it could hurt ticket sales for the MLB team which is what MLB only cares about. Another option would be Carolina as the Brewers already have an ownership stake in that team. This probably makes the most sense here for the Brewers to build a complex here. The biggest issue would then be the moving out of Wisconsin which would be a public relations nightmare. I could see the Brewers doing this as it makes some financial sense as they are already invested in this area. Putting the complex in Carolina would then allow the Brewers to build it out and move everything but the R team and the spring training site to Carolina. This would then solve for the minor league living conditions but would change the makeup of minor league baseball.
  24. I finally watched the new Ghostbusters movie last night. This version was better than the cringe one from a few years ago. The plot actually made sense in this one and the jokes were good.
