Again, based on what? One fantastic game against a dumpster fire Illinois program? Every other game he's literally looked like Alex Hornibrook. At some point, you can't blame the game plan for missing mid-level throws. If you can't hit the throws, arm strength doesn't matter. Hornibrook couldn't hit mid-level plus passes, and neither can Mertz. One may have been due to arm strength, the other is due to inaccuracy and decision making, which may actually be worse. In the end, they're both guys who can hit 5-yard passes and not be trusted on much else, and turn the ball over at an absurd rate. The reality is, Jack Coan should be the Badgers' QB this year, and they made the wrong choice. Mertz may be very good eventually, but he's just a guy now. It isn't just the Illinois game which was more of a NFL style defense and Illinois played him very well actually there were a bunch of deep throws that should have been knocked down that weren't. Then the play calling went ultra conservative after the Michigan game with very few deep balls thrown. How many deep balls were thrown in this game? I don't think there was a single 10+ yard throw all game and I don't think there was a single route that was ran that was more than 10-yards. Majority of the throws were 5-yard throws where the defense could just sit back and camp the routes. I am not sure why you are so hesitant to blame the scheme. If you keep running the same routes over and over again it is not going to matter what the QB does. The defense is going to react and adjust which the Penn State defense did while on the offensive there were no changes. The cornerbacks weren't even playing press coverage during the 2nd half. If the Badgers wanted to they had plenty of opportunities to go for a deep ball but never did. Everything was between 5 - 10 yard routes and nothing over 10 yards. At some point no matter what you think about your QB and their accuracy you have to go and take a shot otherwise the defense is just going to sit on those short passes which is what Penn State did. This is all scheme based Coan wouldn't have done any better than what Mertz did. Maybe instead of a fumble the Badgers are able to get a FG on one of the drives. But there is absolutely no evidence that Coan would have done better. Mertz problem isn't the deep balls he is actually very accurate on the deep balls compared to Hornibrook. I am not sure you are remembering exactly what Hornibrook's problem was. It was that he would float the ball and it had no zip on passes longer than 10-yards. Mertz has a lot of zip on his passes and he is actually rather accurate with the longer throws. It actually on the shorter throws where he is inaccurate. At some point you have to change the scheme a bit if your QB is struggling and Chryst just will not make the changes needed. Coan struggled a few times like this and Chryst never made any adjustments. Just look at the Ohio State games he never makes an adjustment to his game plan it is the same every single game. You would think at some point he would change something up but he hasn't. He is incapable of making a change and it is hurting the players in the process. The game plan is horrible and the scheme is horrible as Chryst is not taking advantage of the talent that he has, he is still playing like JT is the starting RB in the backfield. He refuses to make changes to his run game to help the running backs he has and he refuses to make changes to the passing game which has been stale for the last 4-years. Other than 4 games where he wasn't doing the play calling the offense has been stuck in this horrible rut where they don't run any passing plays over 10-yards. That is 100% scheme and not the QB if you don't allow the QB to throw those passes it is 100% on the scheme and not on the QB.

He has shown the ability to throw the ball and his arm grades out to be really good. He has NFL starting QB talent it is just that the game plan that is being ran if you can call it that is just lacking. He hasn't been good with the decision making but then again the majority of the pass plays are designed to go up the middle which is where you are going to make a lot of turnovers. I don't know how you can say he is anything like Hornibrook after watching Mertz. The results may not be there yet but Mertz has a better arm than Hornibrook. It is like complaining that Burnes wasn't a good pitcher and he was looking like Wily Peralta 2.0 a couple of years ago. The game plan is definitely not helping Mertz out at all. I doubt Chryst is going to change and he is going to waste another year of a talented QB. When was the last time the Badgers lined up in a bunch WR set? When was the last time the Badgers ran a fade route near the red zone? Heck when was the last time the Badgers ran a fade route at all? Why is Ferguson running basic curls and 5-yard out routes? None of this makes any sense and isn't helping Mertz out at all it is basically all on Mertz to make something happen when the play calls are doing nothing. They could have ran some quick slant routes with their WR to kill some of the pressure that was getting to the QB but Chryst again refused to make an adjustment in his play calling. There were a couple of times they could have ran a fade route to one of the corners in the end zone to Ferguson but they never did. You have a big tight end and all Chryst does is run 5 yard out routes and short curls. It is like he can't think outside of the box of 1950 era football.

To whom? I see at least 3 more loses for the Badgers: Notre Dame, Northwestern and Iowa. They could even lose a fourth against Purdue. I am just hoping they lose 4 games and Chryst finally gets fired.

Chryst isn't anywhere near the coach that McCarthy was or is. Chryst has a very talented player at the QB spot but he still won't make adjustments at all to his game plan or play calling. He is what he is just a speed bump for the better teams.

He is a far better player than he has shown. But when the play call is run left then run right then run up the middle and then no motion pass plays you are not going to do all that much as a QB. It is like Chryst is stuck on the no motion no WR bunches no anything modern just run 1950's football plays. Chryst is just an idiot when it comes to running an offense and this team will be nothing but a tune up game team for Ohio State and other teams. I don't understand how he is still the head coach. I have seen high school head coaches who have a higher offensive play calling IQ than Chryst. He maybe a good head coach but he is absolutely horrible at running an offense. There is just no game plan other than run left run right run up the middle and run a basic pass play. Defensively it is extremely easy to game plan against Wisconsin. It is basically stack the line because 90% of the plays are going to be runs to the right left or up the middle. Pass plays are also easy to defend on short and medium yardage plays you play press coverage and on passing downs you play 10-15 yards off of the WR. The only thing with Mertz that the defense has to plan for is his arm and that is it. Chryst won't make an adjustment during the game because he is incapable of doing that so you don't have to change your defense all that much. There are very few slant routes ran by the WR and the Badgers don't run any fade routes either. They have a big athletic TE but refuse to run a single fade route for said TE. You don't have to game plan for that on defense because you know Chryst won't call that play. So on defense you are only game planning for WR that will run an occasional go route, some basic curls and some stop and go action. That is the whole playbook for Chryst's offense especially at WR and TE. Plus you never really have to play more than 2 CB's because Chryst hardly ever brings in more than 1 or 2 WR. Someone needs to tell Chryst you can still run the ball with 3 or 4 WR in the game you don't need a FB to run the ball all the time and you don't need 2 TE's either. Chryst is the problem and the Badgers will never be anything more than what they are until they get rid of him and actually find someone who understands how to run an offense.

And as long as they don't fumble the handoff, it almost always works. Sure but try something different every once in awhile. I am done with Chryst he will never take this team other than the warmup game for Ohio State for the playoffs.

Chryst needs to figure out how to properly gameplan on offense. You can't just run the same 3 plays over and over again and just change the direction you are running the ball. You can't just keep on running one or two WR sets. This is just basic game plan 101 and he fails at it. The Badgers are going no where if he is going to be the head coach. Don't expect anything other than a 10-20 ranked team with him as the HC. Just no offensive game plan other than run ball left run ball right run ball up the middle. That is 95% of Chryst's offensive game plan.

Do the Badgers have more than 2 WR'S on the team? Does Chryst have any plays where he lines up more than 2 WR'S?

Chryst does know you can put more than 2 WR's on the field at a time right? Also more than 1 is possible.

The play selections just suck. The WR's are still garbage no threat to the defense. Basically the CB's can either play press coverage or play 10-yards off of them. Just no talent so far for the Badgers at WR in this game.

Mertz isn't the problem it is the play calling. It is like Chryst has never heard about fade routes or putting guys in motion. Chryst is just a horrible play caller and we are basically stuck with him.

Badgers need a WR who can go up and catch and a coach to call that play.

It is no different than investing in any other stock out there. While we can't make more gold on our planet we can definitely mine it on asteroids and possibly other planets like Mars. So while gold has a big protective moat right now that may not be true in the future how far in the future I have no idea.

For cars or even vehicles in general to go fully autonomous something like this will need to be implemented. It would make driving to work a little bit more stressful or more fun as your commute would look more like a NASCAR race with bumper to bumper traffic going at 65 MPH+.

Yankees vs Red Sox Dodgers vs Padres/Cardinals/Reds That is my preferred wild card games as I just want to see the Yankees and Dodgers lose the wild card game and watch the talking heads on ESPN cry over why this is so unfair to large market teams. Also would be nice to have ESPN talk about the Brewers, Braves and Rays a little bit more instead of constantly gushing over the Dodgers and Yankees. The greatest scenario would be for the A's to knock off the Astros and have them miss the playoffs. It is too early to say who won and lost this trade. I think it is a push and both teams have come out ahead in this trade. Just because the trade is looking good now for the Brewers doesn't mean it can't get ugly in another year or two. I really hate the categorizing trades as wins and losses. I don't believe GM's are trying to get one over on another GM unless they really dislike that GM. I think most trades that GM's make are ones where they see an acquisition that helps their team so both GM's have to agree on something that they think will help their team win either now or in the future. Not all trades are going to work out especially ones that involve prospects. I always cringe whenever I see someone say oh x won't trade with y because the last time they traded with them they got fleeced or the trade didn't work out. I doubt any GM is going to look at a past deal and say ahhhh hah they got me last time but this time I am not going to trade with them because of that!

I tried to stay away from players below A ball. I was hesitant to put in Hedbert since he was just promoted to A ball. Just too many unknowns at those levels.

The Brewers do have some really good prospects in the OF. Tier 1: Mitchell (AA) Frelick (A+) Gray (A+) Tier 2: Hedbert Perez (A) Wiemer (A+) Tier 3: LG Castillo (A+) Ward (A+) Ernesto Martinez (A) Bello (A) Lutz (A) Carlos Rodriguez (A) Pablo Abreu (A) The exciting players are in tier 1 and tier 2. I wouldn't be surprised if someone in tier 3 will become a 4th or 5th OF. Martinez, Castillo and Ward all look like they can project to be at least a 4th/5th OF. If everything clicks for them possibly even everyday players but they have a lot they need to work on. The Brewers have some exciting guys maybe not in the top 10 or top 25 but some real exciting players. If Mitchell continues to play well and stays healthy he should be in AAA at some point next year and if Frelick continues to succeed he should be in AA by the middle of the year next year. So Frelick should have an ETA of 2024 and Mitchell an ETA of 2023. You could possibly see both in the majors at the same time. Then you have Wiemer and Hedbert just behind them. Talent wise Wiemer is reminding me of Corey Hart, the way that he plays is what really makes the Corey Hart comparison fit. Should be an interesting 2-3 years here for the Brewers in the OF. I wouldn't be surprised if a few are traded for some other depth that the Brewers are lacking in the minors. I think we could see some traded for some pitching depth.
