  1. Interesting article from NPR. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/05/28/863944333/antibody-tests-point-to-lower-death-rate-for-the-coronavirus-than-first-thought
  2. Sounds like they are close on a deal the sticking point looks to be the number of games to be played. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlbpa-on-board-with-leagues-plan-for-regional-schedule-in-2020-season-per-report/
  3. I have severe doubts there will be college football this year.
  4. There wouldn't be a link as the teams are privately held companies and even if there was it would just be a best guess estimate either way at least for the operations side of things. The Brewers TV deal just wouldn't be able to cover the operations side of things and the pro-rated salaries it is just not enough. There are other teams that are going to be in this same boat. Unless you have a TV deal like the Dodgers it is going to be very difficult to pay both the pro-rated salaries and operations. The Reds, Brewers, Royals, Pirates, Rockies and the Rays are all possibly going to lose money. The Royals maybe saved by their lower payroll but the Reds increased their payroll this off season and the Brewers cut a little but definitely not enough for the TV contract to cover the expenses. Teams like the Reds and the Brewers rely heavily on the ticket sales without this revenue coming in the TV contracts are just not enough. We also don't know if the TV contracts will only be for a partial season which makes sense that the teams would only receive money for the games that they play. That means with a 100 game season that is about 60% of the TV contract revenue that would normally come in. I believe it is safe to say that the teams at the lower end of the TV revenue scale are going to lose money this season. I think the best bet for fans at games will only be at 25% capacity which might allow the lower revenue teams to get into the black. This is also not taking into any consideration any expenses that the team will have to incur due to reopening and allowing fans into the stadium. There are going to be things that the teams are going to have to buy like digital thermometers and extra masks if they are required by the state not only for the players and employees but for the fans also. I just don't see how this season is going to be a financial success for the small market teams. The large market teams will be fine as their TV contracts will cover their expenses and then some the fans in the stadium will just be an extra bonus for them.
  5. huh? No where in Boras' rant did he make that point. For the relevant question yes some teams can cover the pro-rated salaries + baseball operations namely the large market teams could. The Brewers specifically would not be able to cover the pro-rated salaries + baseball operations with their TV revenue and I believe the majority of the teams in MLB would be just barely in the black with a very small margin for error. Secondly franchise value has no bearing on player salaries and if you are comparing the two you are a fool.
  6. I think you're missing the point--he's saying that the owners are losing money because of investments that are not related to player salaries or baseball operations, which is a very acute observation from someone who knows more about the finances of MLB than just about anyone. I wouldn't say Boras is someone who knows more about the finances of MLB. He may know more than the average fan but the majority of what he is saying can be deducted logically. The owners are not losing money because of investments. When you don't have a revenue stream coming in you are going to be losing money regardless if you have investments or not. So no he is not nailing it.
  7. The MLBPA is proposing a longer season than what the owners have proposed to keep the prorated salaries. It is not about safety it is 100% about the money. If the players wanted to do this then they should have done this earlier. The talks of having all of the teams in 3 sites would have allowed for this but the players didn't want to be separated from their families but now that is what is exactly is going to happen with their proposal. 100 games would mean the season would have to start on June 1st with no ramp up. The season would start June 1st, don't tell me the players are concerned about their safety when this is their proposal. They don't care about the safety they only care about the money and that is it. For 100 games to be played there would be at most 2-3 days off a month between June through September. You basically have to play about 30 games a month to get to 100 games by the end of September. If the season starts later than June 1st you basically are playing games with maybe an off day once a month.
  8. Yuck not really someone I would want the Brewers to be drafting. If the Brewers are going to go with a college player I would prefer these players over Foscue. RHP Clayton Beeter RHP Cade Cavalli OF Garrett Mitchell Another player to watch for in HS is Jordan Walker. I think he could stick at 3B and his ceiling would be that of Kris Bryant and his floor is really low so he is a boom or bust type of a player. He has all of the athleticism you would want out of a player the biggest concern is that his bat won't translate and he may not stick at 3B. Even if Walker doesn't stick at 3B he is someone who could make a transition like Braun to the OF. Garrett Mitchell probably won't be available when the Brewers are picking but if it is between him and Foscue I don't see how the Brewers pass on Mitchell. Mitchell can play all 3 OF positions while Foscue is mostly a 2B/3B player. I don't think he has the arm to play 3B so really he is a 2B only player. While the Brewers drafted Hiura I don't believe Foscue's bat is all that special and it won't make up for the value that Stearns loves. Clayton Beeter would be interesting as he was a closer last year and the start of this year he was the #1 starter for Texas Tech. Beeter is a question mark and he could be a #1 type pitcher teams are just leery about him as he was a former closer in college and this would have been the first time he would be a starter. He has a mid 90's fastball with a really good curveball. I wouldn't be all that upset if the Brewers went with Beeter with their first pick it would be a gamble but if it pays off you have a top of the rotation starter.
  9. I found this interesting on Joe Rogan's podcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_ZJ8YDOX6g The Vitamin-D deficiency is interesting, note this is not a prevention method but more of a how your body may respond getting COVID-19 and the lethality of the virus. Some articles I could find on some research with the Vitamin-D deficiency. https://www.mccormick.northwestern.edu/news/articles/2020/05/vitamin-d-levels-appear-to-play-role-in-covid-19-mortality-rates.html https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.08.20058578v4 https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40520-020-01570-8
  10. I am fairly certain Rodgers will end his career in San Francisco the team he actually wanted to be drafted by and play for.
  11. I think the Brewers go with a HS player in round 1 and I think they go with one of these three: Pete Crow-Armstrong OF Ed Howard SS Tyler Soderstrom C
  12. I read somewhere a few years ago that grade points are up but standardized test scores are down. The biggest culprits are ritzy private schools. People joke about schools with no grades but grades become sort of meaningless anyway. Which is more meaningless the standardized test score or the grades? I would go with both.
  13. This is by far the greatest Brewers team ever, every single one are Hall of Fame bound! 1B: Franklin Stubbs, no words here because he is the greatest 1B ever! 2B: Bill Spiers, ummm duh greatest 2B to ever play the game! 3B: Wes Helms, Wes the 3rd greatest Brewer of all time! SS: Yuniesky Betancourt he makes you forget about Ozzie Smith as he literally played with a gold glove and gold shoes he may have also had a gold jock strap but that can't be confirmed. C: Johnny Estrada, he never took a play off and always hustled down the line! No tortoise ever beat him to 1B! LF: David Hulse, so unforgettable I completely forgot he played for the Brewers! CF: Jeffrey Hammonds, man what a signing probably one of the best signings in Brewers history, we would of won the 82 world series with Hammonds on the team! RF: Tom Brunansky, man did that guy have an awesome mustache, probably the greatest in Brewers history! SP: Rubén Quevedo, man could this guy eat one time he ate 10 chorizos and 5 burritos in one inning on the mound while pitching! RP: José Capellán may he rest in peace I know he is up in heaven now throwing 200 MPH fastballs in the dirt. True story he was the inspiration behind Ricky Vaughn in Major League. CP: Curt Leskanic how can we forget the great Curt Leskanic? I am actually having a real hard time remembering him can anyone help me out here?
  14. Garbage and Detroit go hand in hand. The last time I was in Detroit I thought I was in the Eastern Bloc.
  15. You can't be serious? We all know Yuni-B is the greatest SS in Brewers history!
  16. Is she getting the "Karen" haircut?
  17. And the players union do not want revenue sharing so this deal is dead unless the players vote differently than what Tony Clark is saying. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-players-union-boss-rips-leagues-proposed-revenue-sharing-plan-for-2020-season/
  18. [sarcasm]Apparently we just need to be smoking weed and getting high. Hah take that you hateful anti potheads![/sarcasm] https://calgaryherald.com/cannabis/cannabis-shows-promise-blocking-coronavirus-infection-alberta-researcher/ All kidding aside if this works it would be awesome.
  19. I still prefer drafting BPA position doesn't matter.
  20. 88% of the schedule is pre-determined years in advance. Only two games are determined by previous year's results. Not directed at you specifically and maybe you weren't alluding that winning a super bowl should result in a more difficult schedule, but it's my rant that I must have heard this 50 times this week that "the NFL always gives XYZ an easy or difficult schedule." The opponents have been decided for I believe, 8 years on a rotation, minus 2 games. It's just the way the chips fell. The AFC North away and the AFC South at home. The Ravens obviously hurt their SOS, but the Texans were not all that much to write home about record-wise as the adjoining 1st place finisher. Oh I agree but I have been told the Bears and the Vikings when they have won the division it is because they had an easier schedule because of how they finished the year before.
  21. The Chiefs got a pretty easy schedule for a super bowl winning team. I can't remember a super bowl winning team getting this easy of a schedule since the early 90's Cowboys, maybe the Patriots have had an easier schedule? Other than the Ravens, Saints and the Bucanneers games I don't see much of a challenge for the Chiefs. The AFC West is horrible and they should sweep all of the games. Record wise at worst the Chiefs should finish 12-4 but they will probably go 14-2 with this schedule.
  22. There are rumors that a team has already decided to cut payroll next year and I wouldn't be surprised if about 90 percent of the teams follow in doing this.
  23. If any state is still in lock down those teams would report to either Florida or Arizona to play their games or at least that was the proposed rumor on how they would handle that.
  24. Do you have a link? I didn't have any luck with my quick googling. https://www.newsday.com/news/health/coronavirus/coronavirus-long-island-new-york-covid19-1.44418223
  25. I still prefer Little Science, Big Science by: de Solla Price, Derek J. for anything science related.
