  1. Hopefully Hardy sits tomorrow and Counsell starts in his spot.
  2. No I thought about that and Carlos Pena is getting up there in age. Pena is 31 years old and he will be looking for his last chance at a big payday which the Rays will not be able to give him and nor should they. In 2010 Pena starts to get somewhat expensive for the Rays at $10.125m which will be his age 32 season so you can expect Pena to start to decline. This is probably when the Rays let go of Pena after 2010 which will open up 1B for someone like a Gamel. Gamel is probably a lot like Pena is in production at the plate his defense at 1B is an unknown though right now. 2010 is Pena's last year with the Rays and he will be a free agent in 2011 it doesn't make much sense for the Rays to keep Pena beyond 2010 with him being a Scott Boras client don't expect a hometown discount either.
  3. Why are you all caught up on the $1m part? It is an imaginary figure I have no idea why everyone in this forum takes everything so literally where every word is suppose to be something the Brewers would or should do or is something that is being proposed. The $1m was just an example there is a clue in the sentence that shows this and that clue word could and that should have given it away that it was just an example of what the Brewers "could" offer Kendall.
  4. You can offer whatever you want for a free agent to be in arbitration it is the players who are not free agents you have to offer an arby number like that. With the way Kendall has been hitting and if you look at his peers he is worth no more than $2m. So $1m is in the ballpark because Kendall is performing at a backup catcher type of numbers. No way Kendall gets anywhere near $4m in an arbitration case.
  5. The Brewers can offer arbitration to Kendall and it can be for whatever amount they want it to be because Kendall will be a free agent. I'm not sure if that is true with Looper if there is a mutual option involved though. The Brewers could offer Kendall $1m in arbitration to Kendall which he would reject and any team that would pick him up would net us a sandwich pick. If no one picks him up it doesn't really matter since Kendall would reject a low ball arbitration figure. I believe the Brewers will offer Cameron arbitration if he doesn't accept a one year contract and if Cameron doesn't accept the one year contract it is more than likely that he will be heading to the Yankees. The Brewers should also take the same route with Hoffman. If he rejects a one year deal then offer arbitration and see if you can get some picks out of Hoffman at least.
  6. Right now with McGehee's injury the way it is yes it would be impossible for McGehee to play the OF. Next year if McGehee is healthy he could play LF or RF I would rather see him play LF but moving Braun again may not be a good idea since he has become rather comfortable in LF. McGehee is very comparable to Mark DeRosa where he can play multiple positions. He can't play all of the positions greatly but he is adequate at nearly every position he could play at. If Hart is traded in the off season I would bet that McGehee and Hall would get the chance to play one of the corner outfield spots over Gamel. I don't see the Brewers moving Gamel at all off of 3B.
  7. I think you mean Royals since neither Betancourt or Bannister are on the Rays.
  8. No nearly every MLB manager would have left their pitcher out there with less than 100 pitches entering the 9th inning but once they start giving up a hit or two they would be pulled.
  9. Could they try to win games a little less dramatically please?
  10. Where have you been Manny Parra? Sure did miss you earlier in the year.
  11. Why pay a backup catcher that much that isn't going to be playing very much at all. Hall would have more value to them because he can play multiple spots and will be in the lineup more which is a good thing. Snyder will be the backup and why would you pay a backup catcher that much money? Do you get it now?
  12. If they have wouldn't he be traded by now? Hall's contract is a lot less worse than Snyder's is and it gives them financial wiggle room to sign a free agent or two in the 2010 off season. They would be losing all or nearly all of their high priced players in that year. Snyder would still be there yet and would be a very costly back up catcher. Lets see financial help or dumping the player. Hmmmm that is one big decision I wonder which one they would take.
  13. Except that the Diamondbacks are looking to dump Snyder and Hall plus a utility guy will probably get that done especially with how much salary relief they would be getting in return. Oh wait that is right you just want to ignore that fact.
  14. I would rather try and trade for Snyder. Reportedly the Diamondbacks are trying to get rid of him for anything at this point. They are also reported to be looking at releasing him if they can not find a trade for him. Snyder is someone the Brewers should look at trading for Snyder is under contract until 2012 but the final year has a buyout of $750k. A Hall and Iribarren trade could get this done and I'm not even sure that Iribarren would really be needed to be added to the deal. The Diamondbacks would be saving $2.35m from this trade if it was just Hall for Snyder.
  15. Bartlett will be 30 years old after the end of this season and it will be his 2nd year of arbitration so the Rays only have Bartlett for 1 more year than they would have Hardy for I believe I added Bartlett's years up correctly.
  16. Eric Byrnes no thanks way too much for a 4th OF. Johjima would take more than Hall and I would rather have Rivera Corporan behind the plate. Guillen same as Byrnes. Bonderman OK but he makes more than Hall does next year. Robertson I can see and their contracts are about the same. Igawa thank you but no thanks. Hall is only owed $8.4M next year if the Brewers can't get someone for around that price they shouldn't be really trading Hall. Even if you take in Hall's buyout in '11 which is $500k and the Brewers will exercise that buyout Hall is cheaper than nearly all of the options you listed. Johjima and Igawa are the only two players who are lower than Hall in salary. Both Igawa and Johjima would take more than Hall to get in a trade. Straight up for either one of them sure but not if there are any prospects involved going for those guys. It doesn't make sense to dump Hall and take on Guillen or Byrnes contracts.
  17. Jason Schmidt is also a player coming off injury and will be available in free agency he maybe worth looking at.
  18. A trade like this wouldn't happen until the end of August.
  19. Supposedly there is a gentelemans rule that the GM's are following this year with the waiver trades plus adding in the economy into it I doubt teams are going to block these trades especially with a contract like Kazmir's and Crawford's.
  20. MLB Trade Rumors has an article up with Buster Olney's latest thoughts. Kazmir may still be a possibility for the Brewers this season yet and maybe even Crawford. A Hart for Crawford trade would be a lateral trade for the Rays and the Brewers. The Brewers would get a left handed hitting Hart and the Rays would get a right handed hitting Crawford. Another name that could be in talks with the Rays could be McGehee or Weeks maybe even Parra but pitching really isn't a problem for the Rays so I am going to guess it will be either for an OF, 2B, 1B, or SS. Bartlett is about 30 and I'm not sure Hardy makes sense but a Hardy and Salome for Kazmir plus a minor prospect may get that done. Players that I see the Rays targeting from the Brewers include: Hardy, Escobar, Lawrie, Gamel, Salome, and Lucroy. Gamel would probably be moved to 1B with Longoria entrenched at 3B with the Rays. Lorenzo Cain could also be a long shot but I'm not sure the Brewers would want to part with him being their only close legit OF prospect. This kind of trade makes to much sense for the Brewers and the Rays to actually happen.
  21. Except Hardly is hitting worse than what Escobar's MLE would be AB H 2B 3B HR W IW HP K SH SF GDP AVG OBP SLG OPS BABIP GB% LD% FB% IF/F [MLE] Overall 402 106 19 4 2 19 2 3 64 17 1 13 0.264 0.301 0.346 0.647 0.310 52.4% 19.5% 27.8% 15.0% Hardly SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2009 Mil 95 352 45 81 13 2 11 45 33 69 0 1 .230 .296 .372 .668 So you give up about .021 OPS for a #7 or #8 hitter which Hardly is right now. Escobar also gives you more speed yes I know the team doesn't need more speed but it never hurts to have more speed on your team. It is not like Escobar will be replacing Hardly in the #2 or #5 spot in the lineup he would be replacing him at the #7 or #8 spot. Hardly needs to be traded this off season for pitching no more holding back Escobar.
  22. No you couldn't be farther from the truth. First Hardly would have pouted and stomped his feet and wouldn't even think about playing 3B so that would have been out of the question. Think what Bill Hall did last year when asking for a trade but this time multiply that by 100 of the crying and complaining from Hardly. For the other part I don't see what the Brewers traded for Lopez getting much other than a Lopez type of a player.
  23. The L.A. Clippers say hello to you and this is where the Bucks are heading and if they start tanking I believe they will be the second coming of the Clippers.
  24. Already being discussed here and he was only signed to replace Gillespie in AAA nothing more nothing less I doubt he even sees playing time in Milwaukee.
